Ive got 2. I shoot the same with one or the other. But i dont have to worried about dropping my wrist aid.

having massive elbow pain since trying out a thumb release. rotating the right forearm left to anchor on jawline is not natural to me. i do shoot better with it but have to go back to wrist release until the pain goes away.

I wanted to switch to thumb style for all the reasons you mention. I started shooting with fingers and it felt more natural. Then I tried with grippy thin gloves, full draw, shot right out of my hand. It's human error but wasn't comfortable chancing that with animal down range. That Too Simple and Sensation were my favorites though.

Yeah I know the feeling, its a lot different than fingers or a wrist strap. I've seen people do the exact same thing

what brand bino harness is that? I like the setup with the side pocket for the wind indicator and the extra pouch for the range finder.

It’s an FHF Gear bino harness. My favorite one out there

Why do they make it so the lock is vertical if You are supposed to hold the unit (Close to ) vertical? Doesn't that cause a twist in the "D" Loop? .....Just Sayin?
@termite122
@termite122 5 жыл бұрын
it certainly does twist the d loop but only very little and it does not affect it at all..there are some thumb releases that have a rotating head that will eliminate any d loop twisting also..

Yanking the trigger is bad form with a bow or a gun, but it can be fixed without spending money on new equipment to hide the problem. After you use your thumb for a while are you not going to develop the same problem and then have to switch to a pinkie release?
@termite122
@termite122 5 жыл бұрын
i agree..you certainly can time the shot and fire the thumb just like an index finger and a pinky also but for me it was a lot harder to slam your pinky on the trigger like your index finger and then ive seen many guys even time a back tension release by quickly rotating there hand t fire it..the only fix if sumone doesnt have the months maybe or even a year it will take to retrain your brain again to separate aiming from shooting are resistance activated releases...they really are the only thing that will not allow you to time your shot and they work fantastic.

Do you need to increase DL at all when move from wrist to thumb release?
@AntlerAthlete
@AntlerAthlete 6 жыл бұрын
Depends on exactly what release you switch to but in general you'll gain about a 1/2"

Your draw does not change with different releases. It will feel shorter with a hand held release. Depending on your style and body shape you may have to extend the D loop or even lengthen the draw. You may also have to change peep height to get your hand in a good spot on your face. It all depends on the individual shooter

Are these only for compound? I haven't seen anyone use a release on traditional archery.

A mechanical release is designed for use on a low holding tension like the valley of a compound bow. Accuracy suffers if you use a mechanical release on a recurve bow. Three fingers drawing and releasing the string are more accurate on high draw weight recurve bows.

Went to a thumb style release 15 years ago and I’ll never go back. Just don’t drop it walking in the woods.

There is no advantages and it’s a bigger switch than people think switching from a wrist to a thumb

To some, maybe, I switched and after 40 or so arrows, I knew I was ready. Groups tightened and it just felt better. Arrowed a mule deer a month after switching, my biggest to date and there was zero issues.

I bet you are a terrible rifle shooter. I use a thumb-release as vell, but that’s because them strap-on-releases eventually slides forward on the wrist after shooting some arrows. Pulling any trigger should be done without moving more bodyparts than highly necessary..
