I think a "full piercing tour" would really be a good length video that could really get you the views and the subscribers for the new channel!! You could talk about experiences, healing, when you got them etc. You could even do multiple part videos for it

I'm so proud of you for how far you've come. When you gave me my first piercing in the Florida location (name not said for obvious reasons) back in 2018, you were the absolute sweetest and kindest person and I've watched your journey since then. Seeing you genuinely happy fills my heart with so much joy and I can't wait to see where else you decide to go with this and wherever life takes you next.

It's so comforting to hear a piercer I look up to say the same things I have, like "oh fuck I've been taught wrong". Thank you for this video, it gives me hope that I can become the professional piercer I dream of being. I had to pay for my "apprenticeship" which was a 3 day crash course and I was thrown into the deep end with some observation from a piercer that had taken the same course. I've since moved studios and learned so much, but 4 years later, I still feel like I need retaught and start from scratch with a proper apprenticeship. Would you have any advice as to how to source a good mentor or even how to approach shadowing, especially with Covid making travel and networking difficult? You're a wonderful human and I can't thank you enough for your education, you've taught me so much ❤️

I would start by shadowing someone and seeing how they work. That will tell you if you really need an entire new apprenticeship or if you need just some retraining. Then you can go from there! As an aside I’m always open for shadowing and welcome anyone who wants to learn! Ryan Ouelette and Luis Garcia also often have folks shadow and are rad.

I relate to your story even as a tattoo artist. I hate that the abuse that fem presenting/ or women is still so prominent in this industry. Thank you for sharing, this made me feel seen and understood 🖤

I remember reading your story about your 3rd apprenticeship. The whole thing is so fucked up and I’m so sorry it happened (literally cried reading it). I’m so happy the industry has you to advocate, teach, pierce and educate us clients too. It’s also awful but other industries that use mentorship have abuse too. I’m going into the medical field and I’m TERRIFIED to be precepted (which is like having a mentor teach you), I hear they haze students sometimes and eat their young. I’ve been abused growing up, it’s hard for me to take and I’ve learned as I got older I SHOULDN’T take it. I also do not understand in addition to unpaid apprenticeship how literal companies (I’ve also heard this happens in the body piercing/tattoo industry too) will pay you a living wage and teach you, but if you back out (like they could be abusive to you) you have to pay them back for the time left you should have had. How is that legal?!

My apprenticeship was very similar to your 3. Thank you for speaking out because my one experience made me feel like I could never return to the industry. Like I was blacklisted for being taken advantage of. I'm still seeking that next opportunity but at almost 30, feel too old to start over. Proud of you

I'm so sorry tthat this happened to you and it is so sad that is normalized. I'm so glad there are people like you in the industry/comomunity that educate others and teach people that abuse in apprenticeships is not okay. I love your youtube channel and tiktoks.

I have a J name in the piercing industry and all you’re stories are horrible. I’m so sorry that happened to you, that is brutal. They’re giving piercers and mentors a bad name. I’m sorry. But you made it through it and now you’re doing great!! Keep up the great work you’re amazing :)

I can't wait to start my apprenticeship someday. I just completed a Bloodborne pathogens certification for body piercing. I'm very inspired by you and I hope to have my own shop. I want to do body modification as well. I have a piercer who does it and it's awesome! I'm getting my labret dermal punched by him

i’m pretty sure i was pierced at your last apprenticeship you’re talking about based on context clues. i’m so sad to hear this because the environment was amazing. or atleast was made to seem that way. i got all my first face piercings there. if i’m right all of you besides “j” we’re amazing people. i felt so comfortable there. i’m glad to hear you’re somewhere way better. i was so sad when i went to the studio and all of you were gone. so sad to know you worked so hard there and werent even paid. so sad to know these type of things happen. i never even thought of that. all love. you’re amazing 💖💖💖

I am so glad to hear that you had awesome experiences with us! And it’s very very likely I pierced you. The super awesome news is Margo helped open Sweet Leaf Studios and I guest pierce there often!! So you can still see us and still get safe piercings from us, and we are now in studios where we are respected and cared for and it’s pretty great.

Hey Lynn can you make a video about retiring piercings? Which ones are more and less likely to leave scars and things like that. I’d love to get high and mid nostril piercings but I’m worried that if I retire them one day I’ll have noticeable scars in the middle of my face

im currently in a bad apprenticeship and unfortunately where i live its so hard to find another shop but I'm still looking! I'm tired of being treated unfairly and how my mentor is never at the shop to teach me, so the other apprentice whos been piercing for a year and a half is teaching me instead. I hate feeling like im piercing wrong and hurting people.. On top of that, my year mark is next month and our 3rd apprentice whos been there MUCH shorter than I have is already on what I am plus navels and nipples, which just by looking at the piercings shes done, is done wrong but with quality jewelry. Looking for a new shop to hopefully get a better apprenticeship but I do want to become an amazing and knowledgable piercer as you :)

thank u so much for talking about this. i'm a self-taught tattoo artist (femme presenting) bc i didn't want to go through the mental and physical pain of being an apprentice. i totally understand why people do it tho, you want to be taught, you want to be prepared for clients, you want to be connected to other artists and people in this bubble, having someone to talk to, you want to get your foot in the door but what i heard of apprenticeships is that it feels like that they just break you until you can't stand it anymore. i started working in a queer tattoo studio, developing my skills and learning further by having friendships with the people working there and it worked all out very well in the end - i'm super happy that i didn't end up in an unhappy or even unsafe apprenticeship. i'm so sorry you had such a hard, toxic and maybe even traumatizing start in the industry. and yes: it gets rarer and rarer but it's very important that we talk about it to make young (especially femme presenting) people aware that this is unfortunately a possibilty and you really have to be careful of any red flags and leave as soon as you see that this isn't working out in your favor.

I recently discovered your youtube channel, and I'm glad I did because of the good amount of valuable info you share (which I'm really grateful for). I've got a question, how can I get to be a piercing apprentice in a reputable shop in the US, being from another country and also having been certificated as a body piercer from a Latin American association just recently? Knowing that I'd need permissions to perform as a body piercer and all that. I'd really love to learn from there, since I'd be getting paid, sadly not like where I am from.

Love this vid so glad I came across your video, I moved across my country to a place that does not speak english and I have no idea how the industry works here/ know anyone here, lmao so it's been a bit of a struggle train lol.

So can u go to an APP Conference without being an apprentice or pro piercer, and to just be curious/wanting to know about things, and making connections?
@Lynn_Loheide
@Lynn_Loheide 6 ай бұрын
No, you do have to be affiliated with a studio to attend conference! Different positions will allow different access to classes. Similarly to how medical conventions require association with a hospital or research foundation.
