I forgot to mention, the YT channel "forgotten weapons" has a long video and a really cool cutaway Hakim, wherein you can see how all the parts function.

Awesome video man, it's nice to see a video as descriptive and helpful as this for such an uncommon rifle. I have 2 Hakims myself and I love them. I'm from PA as well (southeast), gotta love the gun laws here!

I have one of these, (bought it in the late 80's, when they were going for about $125.00 in what is refered to as 'dropped in sand once' condition), also picked up several MG13 magazines, and altered them to fit. First one took about three or four hours to do, the other 3 took about an hour each. 25 rd capacity, look great, and function flawlessly. and turn the rifle into , fully the equivalent of the M1-A (semi auto M-14)

Excellent, thanks. Just picked up one of these and you de-mystified the action for me. Can't wait to get out to the range.

Good job, Vee. The ammo bit was very informative..!

My Hakim could qualify for the brass throwing record. They ended up to the right about 60 feet away and slightly behind. That all changed when i figured out that the gas system is adjustable. In its lowest position the gas port is closed, and the rifle becomes manually operated.

Good video, I was just going to make one like this but it looks like you already have it covered. Thanks much. Just grabbed one of those tools as well. Keep up the good work.

Adding his to my favorites. I haven't seen a Hakim in the flesh since.. I think around 1999-2000. I'd looked them up on Gunbroker recently in hopes of getting one but most of the examples were pretty rough. I was hanging out with my younger brother for his birthday yesterday and we stopped at the local gun store and they had a BEAUTIFUL one that somebody brought in to sell. Didn't have the cash so put it on lay-away. I'm super excited. It's a surprisingly elegant weapon. As is the Rasheed

There is a short history on wikipedia titled "Hakim Rifle". A good article on its history is here: surplusrifleDOTcom/shooting2005/hakimstory/ A good tool to adjust the gas valve can be made by cutting the side out of any small nutdriver.

So... after you pull the safety block, with the bolt still in the forward, place your hand over the dust cover, grip it firmly, and press the little latch in the back to release the dust cover and allowing it to slide off the rifle sand the bolt and carrier. You can then slide the bolt and carrier off of the rifle. I feel this is better than pulling both off the gun at the same time.. then pointing the sprung bolt/carrier at your face while you attempt to remove the bolt. It's a pretty delicate, and violent mechanism to remove in the fashion shown in this video.

Awesome video! Thank you for taking the time to make this. I just picked up my first Hakim last night and now I feel really comfortable tearing her down and getting her ready to shoot! BTW, what kind of camera do you use? It does a really good job! Thanks!

Excellent review. One question though, just wanted to double check. To close the gas valve, turn clock wise?

Thanks for the vid man! My father, uncle, and I took this out to the range for the first time today and we were perplexed by it at first. We were having a problem with the rounds being fed. We had had it in storage for a decade at least. Any suggestions on what parts to oil up and clean off? Thanks again, good rifle, and I will refer back to this vid for more information.

this hakim rifle looks cool. Do have any tips on getting ammo and stripper clips for it? And how to adjust the gas value?

I see you have one of the missing nuclear suitcases on your wood shelves... I use a Swiss K-31 sling on my Hakim, essentially a leather version of the M1 fabric sling.

This is an old video I see. I have been using 55 year production Romanian. It works well. I made the mistake of looking to see that the gas port was clean. I will say the gas port adjustment was a bitch to get right again. After getting it back at the 6 O'clock position and opened one click, the gun will not cycle. It leaves the spent round in the gun or it tries to pull it out and put the next round in. It does cycle by hand. It has to be the gas system. I just cannot figure out why.

Looks like it shares lineage with the VZ58 and SKS.. I just saw one and may buy it.. Gotta see how much 8mm runs now.

Hi, I loved your video...just got my Hakim today. Very informative & well-presented. My firearms dealer wants to know "who made it" to list in his logbook. The only markings are arabic numbers and "made in Egypt." Searching the internet, all I can find is that they were made by an indigenous government small arms industry. Do you have any insight about exactly where they were made, or other useful similar data? AB

I need help with trying to diagnose a problem my rifle is having Iv adjusted the gas cleaned the hell out of every thing but every now and then a case will still get stuck in chamber but won't rip the case head off but scratches and bends the hell out of it

What brand of ammo are you using?
@aubreynevins8 жыл бұрын
+toomanyaccounts iv used ppu s and b and iv tried some yugo "sniper ammo" and only brass cased ammo
@CC-ig9vk7 жыл бұрын
Firearms Nevins the rifle is a very crude version of a gas impingement system. After shooting a little bit the rifle will get very dirty regardless what type of ammo used. When you shoot a good amount of ammo run a bran brush through the barrel and a bore snake when it cools down and you'll be ready to go again

Several friends tell me the hakim pretty much destroys the brass to the extent that it can't be reloaded
