Hey! I never thought about that before. The circumstances of how he comes by the mask IS pretty similar in the original and part 4. It just happened to have taken place off screen in the first film. Also, given what I'm able to piece together from the information in your comment, it appears that you and I would have similar lists if we arranged them from best to worst. The only difference I can see (at least within the scope of the first 8 installments) is that I rate H20 lower than you do. I feel like absolutely nothing happens in this film. I mean, I've seen it many times; obviously things HAPPEN in it. But knowing that doesn't change this FEELING that nothing happened. The only remarkable thing that I find about this film is it's confusingly ridiculous title. But I do agree that it's better than Curse and Resurrection. I'd probably place 5 above it. I have no great love for 5, but saying it's better than the next three films in the series really isn't much of a compliment.

The original is definitely the best. H20 honestly feels like a Scream movie that Laurie & Michael fell into via a trapdoor.

@@rangerrick7729 it's not an accident that it's so similar to Scream. Scream was to the horror genre what The Matrix would become to action films just a year or so later. H20 and probably the vast majority of slasher films from the late '90s and early 2000s were very deliberately trying to give off that Scream vibe. Hell,the cover on the DVD looks just like the one for Scream. In a world where the lesson that every studio thought the thing about the MCU that makes it so special is the "shared universe" aspect,it's easy to believe. Scream was probably the biggest single component that caused a resurgence in slasher films around that time,which is good. But most of them were just less witty versions of that film,which is bad. For every great artist The Beatles inspired to pick up an instrument,there are probably three more who've wound up doing more harm than good in regards to the music industry and the fleeting trends that it often follows. Just like the film industry does. I don't think The Beatles should be held responsible for the end result. Especially considering all of their contributions to....."the zeitgeist". And I believe that the same is true for Wes Craven and his Scream films.

No matter what, you can always count on a dead naked mechanic lying nearby in a Halloween film. Lol.

In regards to the 2018 film, seems you would've known going into it that it was another reboot, right? For that one, the only movie that counts for its continuity is the first movie as that's supposed to be a prequel to the 2018 film. Personally, I feel they should've stopped with these set of films after H20, but of course, it gets ruined because someone comes along and retcons and changes something that had an actual decent conclusion to a story arc. Lori wins. People seemed to hate the Rob Zombie take on the films, so here we are with the 2018 film...and now that's getting a sequel which, imo, it shouldn't have and they should've had them kill Michael off.

@@ssjup81 Rob Zombie's version has some interesting elements, but your right. I doubt they will stop making these franchises. Hollywood doesnt have any new ideas. They try to cling onto things and change them but they always miss the mark. This makes me even more nervous for the upcoming Scream 5.
