@richardperreault49765 жыл бұрын
No. . Every body miss Richard. When he died, David mentioned that the band was really over. We still don't realize Richard Wright's fabulous contribution. He was the base of the pyramid from which David Gilmour's immense guitar virtuosity could fly to its summit. Waters often relied on this basis to emphasize itself as well. And how many times he himself radiated from the base to the top with here an electric piano melody, and there with the deep sound of an organ to make the biggest cathedrals pale. One only has to think of Echoes, without his genius for writing music on his instruments, this piece would not have reached such a peak. Listen to all the majesty of his support at the end when the acoustic guitar playin in this song. . . Sublime!. . . Rick Wright was an essential piece to this eternal group. (Excuse my English, I am French but from the bottom of my heart, that is my opinion).

This song is a masterpiece. My favorite song of all time. I was 16 years-old when I first heard it and just fell in love with it and it's taken me nearly 30 years to truly understand the lyrics ("...leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground...to a life consumed by slow decay", "...looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us...to a glimpse of how green it was on the other side") . I now have a 16 year-old son myself. He recently heard me listening to the song and said, "Who's that? It's really good." I sat down with him and told him how much the song meant to me and told him to listen to it again 30 years later to see if the meaning of the song grows over time for him too. I can only hope he'll be telling my grandkids years from now how much the song means to him...and his dad.

Just a total masterpiece. Conceptually unique. The major/minor chord progression throughout allowing gilmour and wright to work delicately around the root notes. The church bell in the off beat., the complexity of the lyrics that evoke a storyboard in the mind. The pace of the song. The way prattys bass plays select notes only to leave space for the song the breath. How do you compose this?!! The snare rolls in the middle eight balanced with the strings. The solo at the end. It’s a one off. In 200,years they will be playing pink floyd. It’s in a level of the greatest artists and poets. One song listened a thousand times each time evoking a different emotion. Incredible

I find it almost insulting how little attention some videos pay Richard Wright. He contributed both the music and the lyrics of all of their music and yet stays unacknowledged by many. I remember you Mr Wright, you fascinating human being.
@2002ChrisK3 жыл бұрын
Very, very true. I also think it's a bit unfair that the mighty Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), who contributed so much to "On an Island" and played on the associated tours doesn't get the praise that he deserves. One of the most underrated guitarists around today, like Bill Nelson 9BeBop Deluxe, Red Noise).

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young In a world of magnets and miracles Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary The ringing of the division bell had begun Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway Do they still meet there by the Cut? There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before time took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay The grass was greener The light was brighter With friends surrounded The nights of wonder Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again Dragged by the force of some inner tide At a higher altitude with flag unfurled We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever
