Andy was a famous and successful singer who had been performing professionally since he was a small boy. He started with his brothers, called, creatively, The Williams Brothers. His was the definitive recording of Henry Mancini's Moon River. This is why he had his own tv show in the sixties.

After Bobby singing unchained melody they lightened things up. Bobby was known for his sense of humor and Bill never knew when Bobby would pull a gotcha on him like he did on this song too.

Andy Williams was probably the least square of the adults on TV variety shows, he was so open to what the kids stars were doing, at least within a frame work. He jumped right in and got cheers from the kids in the crowd. Just an all around nice guy.

Chad, You nailed it !! Your remarks regarding the outstanding talent of Bobby & Bill (&Andy) has truly displayed a different side of them. There are more on You Tube and you will be hooked on them like those of us who were young adults at that time in the 60's. Great classics never get old--only we seniors have, but this music keeps us moving and enjoying it as much as we did back then. Cathy

For those who don’t know Andy Williams; This performance & the one of Bobby Hatfield singing Unchained Melody, is on The Andy William’s show. He was a wonderful, very famous singer, whose career lasted over 70 years (till his 2012 death). 1938 to 1953, he & 3 brothers were The William’s Brothers, singing on radio, in films & records. Andy went solo in 1953. He recorded 43 albums, 15 certified Gold & 3 Platinum, had 6 Grammy nominations & sold over 100 million records worldwide. He had a weekly TV show in 1962-63, then started doing regular specials, which he did for many years, winning 3 Emmys. The popularity of his Christmas Specials, his 8 Christmas albums & his song “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” earned him the name Mr. Christmas. He was close friends with Senator Robert F. Kennedy & sang at his 1968 funeral. He hosted the Grammy Awards from 1971-1977. He also had a theater in Branson, MO named Moon River, after his biggest hit.

Andy began singing with his brothers as a quartet before going on to an extremely successful solo career. His most famous hit was Moon River. Bobby and Bill spent many hours performing in clubs where they had to be not just singers, but entertainers. It would be worth your time to check out their studio version of What'd I Say to experience them singing it straight, without the goofing around.

Check out Andy Williams with Simon and Garfunkel singing Scarborough fair. And for Andy’s solo check out “moon River”. Andy has three other brothers that occasionally sang with him and they would sing in four part harmony! So he knows how to harmonize with other people!

Well, Hello again Chad. This is such fun, isn't it?! Wow. Andy Williams was my Father's Favorite while i was growing up and Yes he is an extremely talented artist. We are so fortunate that we have these archives to revisit today. If we didn't have these archives, no one would believe it. I don't want to be a downer here, but please allow me a little grace as I explain? When I look around today, there is something missing from everything in Life, just as you noted that we've lost something when it comes to our Music. While this is definately true, it isn't just our music, it is everythiong in our Lives today, is missing that certain Something and it is extremely saddening to observe this. This is not the world that You and I were born into any longer, I'm afraid. I woke up one day and... POOF! So many things had changed, but for some reason this "Change" seemed to happen over night somehow AND I was somehow left out of the loop, because I never got "The Memo?" Now, as I observe the world around me, it seems as though every facet of Life is missing, to the same degree as Music is missing a bit of Magic that used to be there. This has become obvious that it's missing from the Music of today, when compared to our staples from our younger years. I wish I knew exactly what it is that's missing, but I don't, so that makes something like this pretty hard to fix when you don't know what it is that's missing, ya know? On some level I'm sorry about writing this, but when I heard you mention that something is missing from the Music of today, when you reacted to "Unchained Melody," I simply couldn't resist. I'm wondering if you might feel the same way that I do? It's okay if you don't, but I'd like to know, is all, so that I will know that I'm not completely out of my mind, or something. Be good to yourself and thank you for sharing this with the rest of us. Cheers...

Thank you for describing what I also sense. There _is_ something, seemingly in the whole world, that has changed. Like you, I can't quite put my finger on it, and really there's no words to describe it. It's like a minor-note hum, or a vibration. The ambient background energy of the planet, of life, of living, of people in general -- everything has slightly changed a degree or two, like a guitar with one string slightly out of tune. That's the best I can describe what you referred to as that "certain something" missing from the world today. Hopefully it will get better.

Hey Chad, nice reaction as usual! I have some things to say about this clip: 1) They performed this song immediately after Bobby belted out “Unchained Melody,” and he wasn’t even out of breath! Amazing. 2) Andy Williams is INCREDIBLY talented, and you nailed one of the reasons why: he can blend is lovely voice with anyone. You might want to hear him join in with a couple of masters of close harmony: Simon and Garfunkel (singing “Scarborough Fair”) 3) Bobby Hatfield going so off the hook that he silences both Andy Williams AND Bill Medley is pure gold . Nice job on this reaction!

I thought it was immediately after this, Bobby managed to completely change his and the audience's mood, when they left him alone to sing Unchained Melody, in a superlative performance that set the gold standard for that song. @rubydazzler
@rubydazzler 2 жыл бұрын
with hindsight, it's clear that Bill was often a bit evil to Bobby, 'the other Brother'. I think he might have been a bit jealous because of Bobby's allure? I've noticed that when they're being interviewed Bobby seems to look for Bill's approval when he's been allowed to speak. Or maybe I'm being unfair, but in his book he seemed to damn Bobby with faint praise as the saying goes.
@hallieharker4384
@hallieharker4384 Жыл бұрын
@@rubydazzler I dunno. I read an interview that Bobby gave to a newspaper (the LA Times, I think) and he described himself as somebody who would rather be out of the spotlight than in it. So it doesn't seem that surprising to me that Bobby would kinda let Bill do the talking or look to Bill for approval. That's just the way he was, so it seems.

Andy Williams had a long career first singing with his brothers the William Brothers and then he broke off and did a solo career of his own. You should listen to some of his old songs they're fantastic too. Not as great as the Righteous Brothers because he was singing in the 40s and the 50s before the Righteous Brothers so his style would be a little bit different, you know how things change.
