I'm sick of my tech neck, lets fix it. Thanks to LMNT for sponsoring this video! Head to DrinkLMNT.com/... to get your free sample pack with any purchase
After battling constant tensions headaches over the last few months, plus years of being told I have ATP I wanted to fix it. SO I could be pain free, but also to gain confidence and not always stare at the ground. To start 2024 I decided to finally watch every posture video I have seen on KZfaq, reach out to professionals and truly make it my focus. To see if it got me walking around with my head up straight and hunching over my desk while I work

There is a great TED Talk from Amy Cuddy that I watched several years ago, called "Your body language may shape who you are." I took one of her suggestions for using a powerful stance into a meeting with my intimidating former supervisor and felt so much more confident than usual. It was like magic. Edited to add: as aloho50 noted in a response below, Cuddy's research has since come under scrutiny for being unreproducible, so take it with a grain of salt.

there’s subsequently been a lot of criticism and controversy surrounding Amy Cuddy’s research in psychology, essentially it couldn’t be replicated. @@Aloho50 oh geez, hadn't heard that. Having worked in human behavioral research for the bulk of my career, I have personally experience with difficulty replicating results, and leaving behind what seemed a great discovery because it couldn't be replicated. I'll look for that article, thanks. That said, standing in confidence that you don't feel yet has very little risk, so I'll still use "fake it till you make it" when the need arises.

I’ve been following your channel for years and I often think about the video you made when you confronted the issues you had with your hair and feeling like it was an obligation to have perfect hair, like it was woven into your identity-and then stripping that away. That was a powerful video for me and your channel has continued to be a powerful motivator throughout my own life as I am searching for my most authentic self. I say all that to say that it is amazing to see how far you have come and how your channel has really blossomed into a beautiful story that shows what it looks like to be self-aware, seek healthy personal growth, to chase your best self, and your dreams. You are not a burden, you are not hated. Best advice i was given was to remember: most people are so busy with their own thing and don’t even have time to think about you. They are too busy with their own thought to even notice you. I was told to just sit down and look around how others do exactly what i do, speed around looking away and not even notice you looking so busy or on the go. It was eye opening to see that no one really looked my way except in passing. Yes random hate online will happen but that isn’t you but them feeling better about themselves throwing shade around. You are in no way a burden, that is inner worry pulling your self esteem down❤

Hope everything is okay with your family! Check out kneeling office chairs as well! They have ones with back support for beginners, and ones without for advanced sitters 😂 they help keep glutes and back muscles from getting over lengthened, and hip flexors from getting too short. Obviously, like Jeff Nippard said, you still want to make sure to change positions and postures. But the fact that kneeling chairs aren't catching on more boggles my mind! Thank you for all of your videos. It's been amazing watching your channel evolve over the years, while the underlying message of health never changes. ❤️

my favorite queue i got for my walking posture is to walk as though you're trying to get your hips to meet you shoulders. it really helped me open my shoulders and engage my glutes when im walking. also i think ive commented about this before, but BAREFOOT SHOES !!!! they have done more than anything to help improve my posture and strengthen smaller muscles in my feet and legs. I'd love for you to do a video or series about it. I think you would find the research really interesting!!

so true about past sports shaping our current pains... I've started doing totally different mobility stuff than I have ever done before and after just a few days have already felt some improvements. I normally have tension headaches almost every day because the whole right side of my body is stronger than the left. time to balance it out!!! also- that is me, holding my phone up in the air in front of my face hahaha

I have been seeing a physiotherapist for the past month and the one exercise she gave me for severe neck pain are chin tucks! She said they are great for tech neck. Apparently what chin tucks do is help strengthen your neck over time so your neck naturally starts not falling forward as easily. Essentially tech neck is the muscles in your neck become quite weak and therefore are not able to support your head which is a wild thought! I will say just doing 5 chin tucks for 5 second holds in the morning has been eye opening.

When I moved to the states from Canada a learned they don't have physio, they have physical therapy. It's similar but not exactly the same. I miss physio in Canada because I find they have a lot of holistic ways of diagnosing issues, explaining them and multiple treatment options. Physical therapy was a lot more exercise focused and then being sent for x-rays right away.

I got my posture a whole lot better when I started simply strength training consistently and fun fact - i was measures with a body comp machine to be 172 cm and after 22 months of consistent training I was back to 176 - I had such bad posture that I lost 4 cm for a while, which is insane. Mind that the first 9 months of the 22 I was pregnant, so I managed to get my posture better through pregnancy which is even more unexpected. I sometimes find myself sitting crouched etc but i am definitely a whole lot better

Sometimes your videos really bring home the difference between Canada and the States. "Save up your money this month and go see a physio." Here, if I want to go to PT, I have to get a referral from my doctor, and it takes around two months to get an appointment--for the doctor. Then another 2 months to see PT for the first time.

I've been working on this for years, but I'd never thought about my right rhomboids maybe being weak-- looking into this! My weird "sport" (but not actually sport) thing is violin posture. Left shoulder forward and up compared to the right, and while I am sure some of that is tightness, I bet there is opposing weakness too. Also getting a laptop stand post haste, why did I never even think of this?

This is my first video of yours, and I love your energy! If you continue along your posture rehab path, please research techniques to address anterior pelvic tilt. It's pretty evident in both of your posture pictures. Achieving a neutral pelvis can allow everything above it to operate with proper body mechanics. But with an anterior pelvic tilt, you're constantly being tipped forward and your back is having to tighten to keep you upright. Adding in some structural integration or myofascial release type of bodywork can help, especially with a tight psoas muscle. It's a great component to add into the regimen you already have.

In light of the recent murder of runner Laken Hope Riley out of Georgia, could you put together a future video emphasizing the need for staying safe on the run?

What helped my tension headaches was getting glasses. I'm still irritated at how much they helped.

@@KeltieOConnor I have such a small prescription, but I'm no longer leaning forward towards my screen, I don't feel the urge to turn on ALL of the lights and I don't get migraines for flickering from sunshine through tree branches when in a car/on a train. If you do end up needing glasses, I *highly* recommend getting a pair of regular ones, a pair of terminal glasses for screen use, and sunglasses. I don't have terminal glasses or sunglasses, and I badly wish I did. Especially with running and editing, you'll be thanking yourself for both. If you're in Sweden, DirektOptik have a three-for-one type of offer where you pay for the most expensive pair. I'm going with that one next 😂

Oh and I also had my hearing checked, because when you're 35, it's time to get a baseline for all the things that may get worse with age. Right? Right.
