Want to START a business? Go here: skool.com/games
If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbitl in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
Never quit,
Alex
FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

on another topic, would you say that you partnering and embracing skool is your way of "milking the cow you have been breeding", and do you worry that it may reduce the goodwill you have been creating with your audience, or not even allow newcomers to trust you, because now you do have a lot to sell (in contrast to the "i have nothing to sell you" audience)?

I am a prime example of what he was saying. I have a company doing more than 1 million in EBITDA. And I only watch his educational content like this. I was just like the guy that said he stopped watching his content cause it wasn’t resonating as much anymore. I was watching way more of his wife’s content because of it. But I can feel even her content pushing towards the entertainment a little more which I have noticed I have been watching less of hers lately as well even though the substance is always good! In general I don’t have time to sit down and just be entertained. If I’m going to watch a 10-50 minute video I need to learn something. Even if I don’t ever become one of his partners I have bought all his books and have paid 10k for my partner and I to go to his in person work shop because of his content like this!

You must be a natural talent. This stuff to me feels like a top actor telling people to move to Hollywood to become as actor. Nobody would do such a thing. I recommend to people not to be an entrepreneur because it’s so difficult. The ones who ignore the warnings are ready and will succeed. I’m upset by these videos as it’s better to tell people how unlikely it is they will succeed particular as we are at the end of this influencer cycle. It’s a buy at the top market right now not the beginning of a golden era of the age of social media influencers. It feels dead and old news to be chasing this sort of thing.

Absolutely correct. I dont have 1m EBITDA myself, but im an exec that runs one. All i do with my free time is watch informative videos on marketing, sales, business strategy, and product. Every day. And just as Alex says. I also rewatch content as reminders. So watching the same tips and strategies with a different presentation is still useful to me.

Very insightful video. Thanks for sharing! For educational videos, I feel like the research and preparation makes each minute more "nutrient-dense." I feel like I get more education (and entertainment) when someone brings up the charts, the stats, the data, etc. I also grew (relatively) quickly in the first few years, and it was definitely a journey to later decide where to focus and what long-term vision to pursue. I think figuring out what we're doing right can be more fun than figuring out what we're doing wrong, but can still take time. Learning to improve the process over time can be very fulfilling in its own right.

Outstanding value, thank you Alex. This describes what I've been experiencing, and I didn't even realise it. It seems obvious when you think about the educate-entertain divide.

Love this - been watching since the closet studio. Stopped watching as much for a while and just came back recently

You are completely right. I’ve been a fan of yours before you became mainstream, and recently I haven’t been watching your videos a lot because they don’t resonate with me. And I’m way more into business now that before. A note: your sales videos are top notch and my favorites. But this video was pure gold.

I agree 100% with your friend saying that, some entertaining videos were too much visually and I stopped watching every video. Now with the recent brand video and this one I feel like being back in Hormozi‘s University!! I am so happy you noticed it and pivotted ✊
