Hi Tom love the milking vids and as always very informative for me and anyone who is not in the agricultural sector but is interested in it. I left school twenty five years ago and went to work at temple newsam farm in Leeds working with rare breeds of cattle and I got ushered in to working with pigs and later had to leave the industry to look after my father and i never got to go back to farming however I hope In the near future I will be back farming. The ginger warrior is a wealth of knowledge and he is a hell of a farmer you should not be in such a rush to dismiss him from the vids trust him and learn as much as possible from him. You are a very capable farmer but trust me experience is number one. I look forward to watching your channel every week with a passion Cheers

Parlor question. I see the hose coming down to feed the cake and in another video you said they all get different amounts. If I remember correctly you put tape on the tail to indicate that. How do you regulate how much cake gies to each cow? I haven't seen that process in any of the vids I've seen. And Hoof GP is awesome! He's the one who told me about your channel. Love both you guys!

The double up parlour is the cheapest because it can be fitted into an existing parlour without having to knock and redesign a longer parlour to cater for more clusters. If you are milking 8 at the time then the double up machine will increase it to 16 at the time without redesigning the parlour which turns out far cheaper.

Great video, Tom. It is vital that we all support and defend our farmers in the current climate, the vegan agenda is being promoted aggressively by the globalists. with lots of negative publicity and impact on our farmers. I am very interested in all aspects of farming, but living in an area where there are no dairy farmers, this is of particular interest. Do you sell directly? I see this as a growing trend. I buy the higher priced milk in order that farmers are paid a fair price, but I hope that our dairy farmers are paid fairly for their work - I realise that the tendency of the modern world is to reward 'big ag.' and its partners. Our farmers are the custodians of our land, their work too often taken for granted. I buy a lot of dairy products, I love them! Thank you for all your hard work and for taking the extra time to bring us these videos, they are invaluable. In case you are interested, there is a channel (in German) called "A Self Sufficient Living", he did a 3 part video series on a modern milking system in his area. The title of all videos is "So Kommt die Biomilch auf ihren Tisch" (This is how the organic milk gets to your table) Teil 1 04/5/19(part 1) Teil 2 10/5/19, Teil 3 17/5/19. The channel name in German is "Der Selbstversorgerkanal" - if others want that. Part 3 shows more of the techy side, but all 3 are interesting. All videos are found on the gentleman's 'video' page of his KZfaq channel. Although never normally political, he tried to upload footage of the farmers' protest last week and had the material instantly removed. The censorship of those protests was aggressive. He pleaded with KZfaq and has since uploaded some of that material. His site may be of interest to others here.

I notice you're interested in all aspects of farming, let me tell you how dairy works. Impregnate a female cow so that it starts producing milk full of hormones, high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Once the calf is born, instantly remove it from the mother, because cows milk isn't for baby cows... its for humans. If the calf is male, dispose of it (not profitable to raise and look after). If female, raise and introduce into the same cycle. Repeat the physically draining process of pregnancy and birth on the cow every year. Once production goes down at around the 4/5 year mark dispose of cow by putting a bolt through its skull (cows can naturally live up to around 20 years).

I do remember the milk recorder coming round the farm every few months but cant remember how often. Id get shedloads of tracing paper from them as obviously no laptop/tablets in those days. Do you have limits on the amount of milk you can produce like the old milk quota system? think you would buy a licence for "x" amount of milk that you could sell.

They are all throwing out the robots and going for rotary parlours or double up parlours where there are double the cluster s so with acr's it's theoretically possible to milk the two sides together, note theoretically because it's tough work when things are mot going according to plan. To be a good milker one needs to be calm so the cows don't get upset.
