I started following your channel when I saw your Christmas trees last season. For this Christmas my special needs son and I made about 20 of them back in August for this years gifts. We have 20 year old picket fencing and used the pickets. We did a variety of washed paints. White, blue, orange, green and natural. We used slices of pine trees for the base and small slices for the candle holders. On the inside we used ribbon and tied a bell to them and glued the ribbon on the inside top and it hangs down. Teacher and aids will get theses as gifts. I have a bunch of Ryobi battery tools and the nail gun comes in handy 👍 We also had some extra 5 1/4 boards and made a big tree similar to your 2x4 👍🎄

I built the small 14" trees and they turned out great. I decided to build a set of taller trees; 2, 3, and 4 foot high. At 30° the trees looked short and fat, so I modified your design. The top two pieces I cut at 45°. This narrows the base to give it a slimmer look. Also, because these are intended for outdoor use, I drilled 1/2" holes in the base to add 12" spikes pounded into the ground. This will keep them from falling over. The last modification I made was to cut the wood to 2-1/2" x 1-1/4". I don't like the wood looking "2x4"ish. I bought 2×6 then ripped to size. Not bragging, just sharing my interpretation of your design. Thanks!

I think I am going to set one in a plastic flower pot, put spike in and then set some quick-set......then I can move it around patio or drive.....possible put some mini-lights on them! I am going to making taller trees and am going to use the 45° angle at the top. And, instead of 30° for the other cuts, I'm going to use 22.5°. As someone else said, it makes a less squatty tree at the bottom. I also don't like the 2x4 look and planned on taking the original rounded edge off. However, I plan on routing a round over that will make it look like it was supposed to be that way.

@cedarriverwoodworking
@cedarriverwoodworking 8 ай бұрын
Good question. If you double the dimensions of this build. It will give you a 5ft tree. So if you were to double the length of the bottom that will give you the right width. after that it's a process of figuring out what cuts you need for 4 branches. If you aren't drawing them out it's almost trial and error.
