This is the B-side of their 1966 single Paperback Writer. It wasn't very popular for a pretty long while. I honestly love it! The things that you wouldn't notice are things that are very easy not to notice: the rhythm track (Guitars, drums, and bass) are all slowed down. They were recorded in the key of A, and slowed down to the key of G. The vocals are also sped up, originally recorded in the key of F, and sped up to the key of G. This is also the first song to use reversed vocals. The channel You Can't Unhear This made a video on this song called "The Radical Innovations of the Perfect Beatles song." It goes a lot more in-depth into everything this song did. Glad you enjoyed it, this is one of my favorites!

You can hear the Indian influence in the drone of the guitar and The vocal. Not only did George bring Indian influences to The Beatles music , but John also did not remain deaf to the sounds of India. He used a similar vocal drone sound for Tomorrow never knows.

This is one of Ringo's favorites (this was the most difficult drumming of the Beatles catalog, according to him). Most of their songs were very simple for Ringo, but this was one where he got to show some of his chops. A John song, straight from he and George's "special coffee" event with the wives. He and George got Paul and Ringo to try LSD of the course of the next year.

I do want to give you a tip on a band that won the 2014 New World Artist of the Year for the Soul Train awards, and appeared and performed for the show. They are an Afro-Norwegian musical duo and band called Nico and Vinz. They are Nico(las) Sereba and Vincent “Vinz” Dery, both residents of Oslo, Norway, and they are like no other band in the world today. You really need to get their album “Black Star Elephant” and do all 21 tracks (well, maybe not all 21; that would be up to you). In any case, the best album you don’t know about and haven’t likely heard yet. Check out these three basic Nico and Vinz songs 1.) “One Song” (amazing to see these guys speaking in Norwegian to the crowd!) 2.) Am I Wrong, 3.) In Your Arms. 4.) Know What I’m Not. A lot of great material there. I hope you check it out in a program for me!!!!

There was so much innovative stuff done with recording this song. John Lennon's voice was slowed down to give it a different pitch. The guitars were also timed differently. Lennon wanted his voice to sound like an Indian monk chanting on a mountain peak in the Himalayas. At the end Lennon's singing is played backwards on a tape loop so it sounds like a foreign language. Paul McCartney's bass was enhanced so it has a much thicker sound that he had been looking for from the recording engineers. These were all things done in the studio for the first time in 1966..

One of their best songs for that era for sure. I remember when I first heard it I was so young and I just was into the really hard rocking stuff like Long Tall Sally and even later on at the end but you know Helter Skelter which is basically to me kind of a precursor to heavy metal. But yeah man this song along with another one called nowhere man. I would put these back to back and listen to them because these guys are just really exploding creatively at this point they're in their late twenties and they're just going at it you know and they know each other inside out. They know each other inside and out for sure. So this song and nowhere man have this kind of somewhat abstract quality but you also you get the message 100% you get the message but it does it by you know removing itself slightly and then they're playing with just wonderful textures instrumentally and also with the vocals and the harmonies. And who better to try to experiment like that than the Beatles at that time? You know they would be the ones. So glad you put this back on my radar man, thanks for your reactions.

Every Beatle song that came out became a hit. I was 16 when i heard "Roll Over Beethoven. "who is that? " I asked "The Beatles, they're going to be on Ed Sullivan next Sunday." "Who?" An English Group. The girls my age and younger were insane, crying about the Beatles and would do anything to get tickets. They all selected their favourite Beatle? They moaned if there was news that John, Paul, George or Ringo had girlfriends. It was a rare group in the sixties to have a whole album where every song was just loved. Most groups had only one or two songs per album were any good. But I {we} were never disappointed with Beatle albums. Around this time they switched to Paul mostly getting the A-side. I'm not sure why this happened. John had delivered for them in the past. They should at least have shared the A-sides a bit more. Several of John's B-sides including this one would easily have been number one, as would just about anything they recorded such was the phenomenon.

This was filmed not long after Paul had been in a car accident that resulted in a chipped front tooth, as well as a nasty cut on his top lip. You can also see it all clearly in the official colour promotional films they made for this song, and Paperback Writer. Further appearances by Paul, after these were filmed, show him with a repaired tooth, but that lip scar has stayed with him for the rest of his existence. It also helped to fuel the Paul is Dead conspiracy by showing that Paul's so called replacement must have had dental work and plastic surgery leading to the lip scar, in order to make him more Paul like. Apparently the real Paul supposedly died in the crash, and a look-a-like was brought in, who just happened to sing like Paul, played a left handed bass guitar like Paul, had a deliberately sophisticated Liverpudlian accent like Paul, and could play and sing as if he'd spent years perfecting his voice and musicianship back in the time when the real Paul had done so with the early Beatles in their Hamburg days, before they became world famous. This was apparently orchestrated to stop all of his fans from suiciding if you believe any of it.

Nowa days you can just look up a band and see them. Couldn't do that then. But you can't appreciate them unless you got A M radio. No stereo . That's how it was in them days.

Spring 1966, Rain was the flip side of the single Paperback Writer. Although you find these on the Revolver album too, only on the British Version. The American version of Revolver [1966] was different...less songs...all Beatles albums were different between British and American until Sergeant Pepper. Rain has a backwards tape with John singing backwards at the end of the song. They were always experimenting...the mass numbers of young people discovering the Beatles 52 years after they broke up is just astounding. Really learning about them chronologically is best as you can see how they progressed. too many do not understand music was not like this Rain song before the song came out. THEY changed music even in the beginning, it was 8 years of hard work, eventually playing German nightclubs and in England, in dingy places, before they became famous. the first band to give concerts in Stadiums, like yeh, they did it all first, don't let anybody BS you on these things....they set the bar higher before Led Zeppelin was even an idea.

If you like the vibe of this song you should check out these other similar tracks with Lennon singing lead: Tomorrow Never Knows, I'm Only Sleeping, And Your Bird Can Sing, and He Said She Said. All of these tracks are on the Revolver album. Better yet, check out the whole album.

I loved this song when it came out. Seems like the 45 rpm had Paperback Writer on side A and Rain was side B. I really liked both but apparently the public at large didn't. Seems neither song were quite the hits of prior songs. The harmonies make you sing along here!

Dude, love your video! You may not have noticed that the vocal track for the lead singer (John Lennon) were recorded backwards. The video takes your attention away from this.
