Whats the point of climbing the corporate ladder? Unless you work in finance, banking or medicine you will not be getting massive checks when you become a CEO... the best you can hope for is getting a pension or shares and a worthless certificate that you've been with the company for X amount of years. SO what's the point?

I never had the desire to be a manager. It’s more work, more responsibility, and sometimes more hours. I’m here to collect a paycheck and dip when its time.

Thats why i love high-end sales (with commission). i can still be associate-level while potentially making WAY more money than an average manager.

A good friend of mind recently offered a manager job. She turned it down right away, because she wants to keep her social life and sanity.

You and I are on the same page! I'm 45 years old and I STILL have no desire for management. Friends always tell me management is where the big money is but I like my peace of mind and I'm not willing to sacrifice it for money. I'm pretty good with empathy and accountability but I just don't want to do it.

I’ve been a manager in retail and healthcare. Though I just entered the IT world a few years ago, I feel like it’s all the same no matter the field. #hatedit I hate telling grown folks what they need to do. I also hate being on call while being paid salary. I also hated the financial part in healthcare. I had to budget the funds for my program and explain every cent used. I hated the daily/monthly/quarterly/annual documentation.

Speaking to other folks that's been managers across different careers pretty much say it's the same work essentially. It's just a lot and I know it's stressful.

I have 0 desire to be in management either. I'd rather work with and deal with tech than people.

Excellent video. This topic is not discussed enough. NOT everyone is cut out for management. However everyone wants a substantial pay. It also sucks that a lot of people who get supervisor or management positions are selfish, poor communicators, incapable of leading or taking constructive feedback. And since they can’t communicate effectively they have rule people with an iron fist.

I think I'll always want to stay a grunt and never achieve the coveted Senior tag on my title. As long as I'm making good money and I'm happy, I'll never want the extra responsibility and I'm for damn sure next taking any management role.

I did the right things. Got a degree, worked free overtime, worked free at home, dealt with office politics for years. Now I'm dealing with an uneducated, Narcissistic, maniac boss. You can tell those who follow the correct path and those that BS their way through life.

I don't need the flex and happy to leave that to the blind ones. Management doesn't give you any power, more work and very little pay for the added stress. I don't want obligations for overtime, absences or staff that quit. I'm more than happy to remain a technical specialist.

Hey what's up Lise! Hope all is well with you. I share the same sentiment as you when it comes to management. I have always taken this stance because yes, I don't want to be responsible for other peoples mess. I know it doesn't always involve mess, but 9 times outta 10, you have to deal with complicated, sometimes unnecessary stuff and that's just not a lane I choose. Now not saying I can't do the job because I am a leader but like you, I like what I do very much and I like coming in, doing the mf job and clockin the Fuuudge out. Plus as a manager, you tend to move away from the tech and go towards the clerical and I didn't study all this shit to become a glorified baby sitter. Now no offense to all my managers out here, peace to you all, but it's just not me. You be easy, be safe and I enjoyed the video!

I find that some people with a strong desire to be in middle management tend to be controlling and manipulative (and yuck). This isn't so much the case for upper management though. I've been an engineer for almost 20 years and almost all of my managers have been, lets just say, not the type of people I'd sit and have a beer with.

I never thought it being a trade, but it totally is now I think about it! Re being a manager. If you like working as a network engineer (which I do) why on earth would I want to trade that to go be a manager? It's a totally different job and, in my opinion, totally unenjoyable. They don't really get paid that well, they have to play the office politics game, they're more likely to get fired and most importantly they don't ever get to work on a network. I almost feel like sometimes people who specifically aspire to be managers often aren't fit to lead teams.

The only “manager” position I held was a TAM role…the main reason I enjoyed it was because I could still be hands on in a technical way….if it was just a manager role though I wouldn’t have accepted it 😅😂🥂

I actually landed a management job without actually managing. im kinda of like an account manager (basically), so i answer to higher ups all the time. Its killing my life to act like i care about the company. When they go off talking about "what keeps me up at night", like these fools really go home and think about work. Even though im a manager, im done when im done. They are already pushing me to go higher or move over. That is why im here. They wont let a brotha breathe. I been this position for 4 years and they already told me "you mastered this, its time to move on"... And to be honest, i still feel like i got a lot to learn. They are forcing me up the ladder and im afraid of heights.

Preach Preach, how about when co workers become mgmt. without any mgmt training. Like you said, you have deal with folks brown nosing / throwing you under the bus or using your intel against you in a meeting. Agreed, do my job, get the project done and go home. Disconnect until the next day. LAWD Micro Managing is the worse!!! I thought it was me. Nice Breakdown…. Bless

@@certifiedcurls Agreed!!! It makes no sense. Your an IT professional and next your managing. Should be a mgmt tech out before allowing an individual to take on that new title. I’ve seen a lot in my almost 20 years in IT. Love your videos, keep at it. Inspiration!!!! Bless…

100% management aint it! Dealig with people, company politics, finance. NO THANK YOU. Most management, in my experience, have stopped developing after getting their degree. Also, lots of nepotism the higher up you go. Staying on the engineering removes a lot of gatekeepers and ass kissers.
