Don't sweat the shortcuts. Sometimes that's what is required to even get to the place where you can do final work.

Hi! I own a Columbia 45, it needs a ton of TLC and money. I am in the Caribbean. I subscribed to your chanel. Best of luck and fun boat work.

Hi, thank you for the sub!! Fantastic to hear it made it all the way to the Caribbean! I was wondering if there would be any issues in the shallow water over there with the draft of this boat. Have you had any issues?

I have not sailed with this boat, it needs a lot of work. I just got it. When I did sailed around most anchorages were ok. You might bump a reef from time the time. I am in Curacao and not problem with 7 feet.

Hows about two locks, one on the door and one on the hatch? The overhang, I would assume, is important to keep water out. The front of that hatch serves as a drip edge. If the dodger is over that section, then you will be fine, but I see the dodger doesn't go over it. 😬 to fasten the lock, I would use machine screws and nuts with washers so it would be that much harder to rip off. The REAL question you have to ask yourself: Do you want to do the repair RIGHT? or do you want to go SAILING? I would suggest the latter!! Halfass-it and go sailing!!

You are right on all fronts. Two locks would have been better, and I'm REALLY hoping were done with the rains this year lol. I want to go sailing, yup, yes sir, that's what I want to do!

Doesn't your multi tool have a metal cutting blade? Just cut those screws off.
@ambiguousglobetrotter

Hi John. Metal screws really tear up the blades on multi tools, especially stainless steel. I really just need to get a pack of blades and have a dedicated demo one. The grinder would have been much better, and I didn’t have it on board at the time.

I’m in outside sales in San Diego and the surrounding areas. 6 days a week… daunting but it pays the bills to get this boat where I want it to be.

@@captvaghunter haha no worries. Outside sales means I have to travel to see my clients, so I drive to all my appointments. Inside sales would be where the customer comes to you, like in a store or dealership.

@@captvaghunter I’ve done plenty of that in my day. Everything from construction to serving at casinos, bartending private events, bars, stadiums. I do miss the service industry, always nice to make cash and the people are awesome!
