Hey everyone - First of all, I want to thank you for the support and words of encouragement. To say I am overwhelmed by the response is an understatement.
I can’t believe we have surpassed our goal on GoFundMe, and many of you have asked if we will be raising it. While we are still accepting donations, we are leaving the goal as-is until we can get a better assessment of what funds are needed. This is going to be a long road ahead of both cancer and fertility treatments. If at any point we have money left over, I can assure you that we will pay it forward to others who may need it for their cancer treatments.
This has been a crazy week for us. On Wednesday 6/22, we went for a post-op follow up appointment and received the pathology report, which was a lot to process. It turns out that the ovarian cancer I have is quite rare, and I also have (technically had) a second cancer that they believe has been fully removed.
Here is the primary diagnosis I received:
1. Stage III large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the left ovary, locally advanced (serosal and muscularis involvement of the rectosigmoid, para-vesical involvement with encasement of the left ureter). *Note: This one has NOT been fully removed.
2. Synchronous FIGO grade 1 endometrial adenocarcinoma of an endometrial polyp (remainder of the curettings were benign). *Note: They believe this one has been fully removed.
I returned to the hospital on Friday 6/24 for an outpatient procedure to place a stent in my ureter. If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you know that I’ve been experiencing a lot of pain and nausea. After another CT scan revealed that I still have hydronephrosis, I went to a urologist who recommended we have the stent placed. Everything went well and I was able to go home the same night. Since then, I have had a lot of relief from the pain and nausea.
We have also been taking steps to ensure that we can build a family in the future. We began the process of egg retrieval, which starts with 14 days of injections. This is not something I was expecting to go through on top of everything else we have going on, but we need to act fast before they start my treatment.
So, what is next? The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is currently reviewing my case. I am hoping to hear back from them early this week about making initial appointments and putting together a team to help me fight this thing. I will likely need chemotherapy, additional surgery (possibly a hysterectomy), and possibly radiation.
As you can tell from the information above, this is going to be a long road. The cancer is aggressive, and we are prepared to put up a fight. The best way to follow along for real-time updates is our KZfaq Channel at / krocksinthekitchen and Instagram at / krocksinthekitchen .
PEEF, Hope & Love,
Jessica 💜💙❤️

My brother was diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma of the colon 14+ years ago. They knew very little about it as it is a rare cancer. He went through surgeries, chemo, and radiation. 14 years later and he is doing extremely well and remains cancer free! 🙌🏻 It is possible to beat it! You are young and healthy and that will go a long way in your battle. Hugs and prayers!! 💕🙏🏻💕

My dad had a neuroendocrine tumor 22 years ago, but I don't know exactly what kind it was. We called it pancreatic cancer, but the "good kind" because it's slow growing. He had a Whipple procedure that lasted over 8 hours. As far as that cancer was concerned, he was fine until about 7 years ago they detected it again. But they haven't treated it and are monitoring it. So my dad has done pretty well over the years. But I guess there are different types of neuroendocrine cancers, some more aggressive than others. I don't know, I don't want to google it.

@@leonieharry2941 We live in northeast Ohio. We are lucky that we have great hospitals in our backyard. (Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital are just 2 within an hours drive away.) My brother was treated with very aggressive chemo at the Cleveland Clinic. He also had radiation. He also incorporated a clean diet and natural supplements. He practiced yoga and continued to exercise when he was able. He was definitely one of the lucky ones!💙

I will never forget the day that my son’s two oncologists came into his room and said, your son has cancer. It is rare and it is bad. There was only 1 known treatment protocol at that time. After that, everything was experimental. He was 2 years old at diagnosis. He is 17 now and has been completely cancer free for 14 years. Stay strong. Stay positive. My oncologist at that time said I had 2 years to “get my life in order,” etc. I changed my entire diet - became vegan -and also found a superb supportive therapist. Each day is truly a gift. 14 years later … I’m doing very well and living a normal life. My oncologist remains thrilled and surprised! Anything is possible. Anything. Wow, when you just used the phrase “flying Colors” it reminded me of my best friend. At 32, she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. It had spread all over. She wasn’t given a lot of hope. It was in her colon, bladder, and other places. Then, she went to a special clinic in Atlanta, Ga, who treated her with surgery, natural foods, juicing, and a small amount of chemo. She didn’t even lose her hair. As she went into surgery, her husband told her she was going to come through with “flying colors.” When she woke up, she had! She was already a daycare owner, but a few months later, she opened up another one, and called it Flying Colors.” She is now 56, and living her best life with her kids and grandkids:) I have a really good feeling about you! About 15 years ago my then-middle aged step sister seemed to have bronchitis. She coughed a lot and couldn’t seem to shake it. She went to the ER one day because she was having trouble breathing. They took a chest X-ray and told her they didn’t see anything, that she was okay. A few days later she was still having problems and they told her again that nothing was wrong. She insisted on a CT scan of her lungs. They discovered she had several tumors in her lungs which turned out to be lung cancer. It had even spread to a few lymph nodes. She saw the oncologist and he told her that she didn’t have long to live, they couldn’t treat it and to go home and enjoy the little bit of time she had left. She sought the opinion of a cancer treatment center and was given hope. She had chemo and radiation and surgery to remove the lymph nodes. She COMPLETELY kicked cancer ass!!! This was about 15 years ago and she has remained cancer free!!! I know a quite a few people that have gotten rid of their cancer… I only mention my step sisters case because she was given such a poor prognosis but defied the odds!! Never give up hope!!!! And above all else continue to laugh and find joy in all things and keep a good attitude. Hang in there y’all!!! 💗💗💗

Jessica, I am praying for you. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in April 2021. When you first hear the word cancer it is such a shock. To get past the mental paralysis and depression I had to remind myself everyday "I am here now." In December the right side of my transverse colon was removed using DaVinci. I only have one kidney, two autoimmune diseases, and had to lose over 100 pounds before they would even do surgery (lots of obstacles). I say this because my case was also complicated and very serious. I just had my 6-month follow-up and am doing well. You are young and strong, and you have the right mindset. I have complete faith that you will do well with all surgeries and treatments that might be in your future. You can do this girl! You will beat it! It’s going to touch peoples lives in ways you can’t even fathom. @Jessica, I loved the short haircut on you, and you are still beautiful without hair. So glad you're able to go to Mayo in Rochester! They are wonderful! My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer one year ago and he's been treated there. Through their expertise, he's been in remission for the past 8 months and his numbers and scans continue to look great. Mayo is at the top of their game with cancer research and treatments. We've been told that the advancements in the past few years are nothing short of remarkable. Everyone at the clinic and hospital is so accommodating and caring, as well as incredibly efficient. We live just two hours away, so haven't had to spend the night too often. There are many hotels connected to the clinic- we stayed at the Towne Place Suites just a few blocks away- I highly recommend them. Shuttle service provided. Check with your insurance company about cancer patient resources. You can often get mileage and hotel reimbursements as we did. My very best wishes to you both- I know exactly what you're going through, the sheer terror and uncertainty of it all. Know that Mayo has your back!

Hi Jessica and Brian! I’ve never been one to post but I have been following you for years and have just related to your journey so much. I’ve been praying for you since I heard about your diagnosis and now I feel like we have one more similarity. I, too, had a neuroendocrine cancer but mine was pancreatic, when I was 36 years old, as well. That was 12 years ago and I have been working on making myself healthy ever since. I only learned about WFPB about 3 years ago thru Mastering Diabetes as that was one of my long term side effect of my cancer. I already had my daughter and she was only 7 at the time, so I had to survive to raise her as a single Mom. I don’t envy the fertility treatments, but no matter what happens, this is your journey and just do your best to keep a positive attitude and know how loved you are: by your family, your friends, your viewers but also by God. He’s watching out for you - as you had symptoms, as I did. Ovarian and pancreatic cancers are often found too late as you don’t always have any signs until it’s spread, so I believe that God has great plans for you! Lean on each other, on your family and friends. Some days are going to be hard and scary. You are very firmly in God’s hands and he is guiding you where you need to be and who you need to be with. Try to find peace and take care of yourselves! Much love, Katie McDaris Marks, Spokane, WA

You just popped up in my feed for the first time so I listened to your story. My heart hurts for you because I know how scary this is.I became symptomatic around 40.I went from doctor to doctor and they all refused testing saying it was menopause. My boss confided to me that she had ovarian cancer as a teenager and told me to insist they do an ablation. They didn't want to but did it.There was a polyp that crumbled when they tried to take it out in one piece. It was cancer.I was angry that it wasn't dealt with years earlier, but thankful it was gone after a complete hysterectomy. That was 2007.I'm in Pittsburgh and was at Magee Women's hospital. We also have Hillmans Cancer Center that does experimental treatments. Your husband is such a sweet, calming presence. I will be keeping both of you in my prayers.Cancer treatment has made great advances.

I was also diagnosed with a fairly rare type of cancer. I had my gallbladder removed in February and there was a cancerous tumor. I was the 5th case my surgeon had seen in 30 years of surgery! I was only stage 1 but a month ago I had to have a liver resection as a precaution. Oncologist appointment next week. Good luck to you and prayers for good outcome.

Having worked as a secretary in an outpatient oncology clinic as well as an inpatient oncology unit, I know that the diagnosis can be very overwhelming. It's a lot to process. Just take it one day at a time. Smile at the small stuff, laugh when you can and it's totally okay to be emotional! That's normal. I hope Brian, as Jessica's main caregiver and support, that you also take time for yourself. It will be an emotional process for you as well. It's okay to be emotional and have days where you're frustrated/upset etc.. Don't be afraid to ask for help because caregiver burnout does happen. Much love and keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

Genetic Testing!! Hey Jessica I’m keeping you in my prayers! So my friend had skin melanoma and then within a year developed a completely separate cancer like you and has prostate cancer stage four. He had some genetic testing done at Vanderbilt University medical Center that then showed like four different types of cancers he is susceptible to. So make sure you ask about getting genetic testing done. I am honestly only halfway through your video but I did not want to forget to tell you that! Wishing you only good things ahead! 😊

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I was diagnosed with complicated endometrial cancer in 2011. The pathologist said I was presenting with 10% papillary serous carcinoma as well--multiple cancers like you. I was looking at chemo, 5 weeks of external radiation and 3 rounds of high dose internal radiation. A little voice whispered to me, get a second opinion. I thought with all my doctors, including my gynecological oncologist and my radiation oncologist, I had a second opinion. NO! You need to get a second PATHOLOGY done on your cancer. I had to go pick my cancer and take it to City of Hope and they sent some slides to Johns Hopkins. Turns out, the original pathologist was WRONG. Please have a second pathology done. Robert Kurman at John's Hopkins is an expert in complicated mixed tumors. Much love to you. G

Hugs! so glad you are feeling better. Overwhelming issues, but you can hang in there!!! And yes, you do not want to be so "special" and rare -- I had a kind of leukemia that normally occurs in children -- but I was 49 -- and they told me it was easier to cure in children. But I did get over it and am 64 today and even got married for the first time after cancer. Obviously, I did not have to deal with the fertility issue, but one step at a time and I am glad you are saving embryos. Your attitude is great -- and I am glad you have such a good community -- that makes a huge difference. Plus you have Brian and your parents. Hang onto all those good people who are praying and sending you good thoughts -- that is the best medicine.

I also have had a very rare cancer, anal melanoma, which when I read about it I thought I would be dead i2 months later. No one sees this cancer either, so the best thing to do in a case like that is to find and go someplace where they have seen and treated patients like that. I am a retired RN so have always know that MD Anderson (MDA) in Houston was always ranked as the best. And after conferring with my doctor, who ai trust so much, we decided I needed to go to there. I got an appointment in one week & went in Feb of 2018, had surgery to remove the cancer, and because of their frequent monitoring (every 3 months), they found one tiny inguinal lymph node that suspicious in August of 2018. They immediately scheduled me for extensive surgery to remove all lymph nodes in that area plus all surrounding tissue. They then scheduled me for 12 months of immunotherapy, which was done locally. That was the last cancer they have found. I live in Georgia but now go there every 6 months because I have been 4 years cancer free. I have the best, & most highly qualified doctors, radiologists, equipment, and knowledge-based research. I am very thankful to have been able to go there as feel likely I would not be here today if not for them. I highly recommend them to you because of your rare cancer. They have the most current treatments, clinical trials, etc. When we have been there we have often talked with many other patients who had been coming to MDA for years seeking hope and great care. Many had been written off & offered no hope from their local doctors yet now are & have been cancer free for years and only returning to MDA for their scheduled scans. If you are unable to go to MDA then I would suggest that you find the closest cancer research hospital, like Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, Sloan Kettering that you can go to. I’ve included a link to the list of the best cancer centers in the USA. Also, major universities often have great care too, if they have a hospital system associated with them. Finally, there are so many new treatment options now that weren’t even available just a few years ago. Immunotherapy has shown such great promise to so many, like me, who’s diagnosis was a death sentence just 4 years ago. I hope you find a place to help you that provides similar treatments and gives you hope for the future. health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/rankings/cancer

You've got this! Getting the diagnosis is scary but the more you know, the more you know. Kudos for having the emotional, physical and mental brain power to do updates. I'm a stage 4 colon cancer survivor. I've been in remission for 13 months now. It's hard. Watching your video brought up all the old feelings and emotions of being diagnosed. Since you are so young, did they do genetic testing to see if there is a reason you have TWO cancers and such a rare cancer? My dad had neuroendocrine cancer in his colon and I have a friend with it in her lungs. It's scary, I'm sure that's it's scarier because it's so rare. Is there a reason why they weren't able to remove part of your ureter? I had the same issues with my left ureter. During treatment they put in a stent then during my final surgery they ended up removing part of my left ureter and lifted my bladder to reattach it. Just as a warning, they usually have to replace stents every three months and it's super uncomfortable. A lot of cramping. A LOT!!! Anyway, I'm thinking of you.

You are so brave and strong, Jessica. I admire your grit. I faced a terrible illness at your age (mine was heart related), and it was scary as hell. I probably couldn't be sitting there calmly discussing it like you're doing. You're incredible! I was just in tears for weeks and weeks after my diagnosis and hospitalization. I am fine now, btw. I had congestive heart failure, which is another thing you never want to have. I made it through and you will too. Your husband by your side, fighting with you every step of the way, is such a gift. My husband fought with me as well. Now for women in their mid to late 30's (and even younger), who like me and like Jessica, think they _may_ want kids but haven't yet, my advice is if you won't be happy if you never have kids, consider doing it sooner rather than later. You don't know what tomorrow will bring and you may not have the opportunity later. I was doing just like Jessica. My husband and I were like...maybe yes, maybe no...then I got heart failure and the option was taken from me. It was too dangerous for me to carry a ppregnancy after my heart got sick and we didn't have the money for surrogacy. I had to face heart failure and the realization that I would not have children. Don't let your health make the decision for you. You do not know what will happen tomorrow so don't put off childbirth if it will devastate you to never have kids. This is my most vulnerable advice to all women out there. I wish I would have heard it from a woman and so I'm telling it to anyone who may be in similar situation now. My husband and I thought of adoption, but it wasn't for us for several reasons. So we do not and will not ever have kids. I've made peace with it, but it still stings and I do regret taking my reproduction for granted. I'm glad Jessica is going to save her eggs. It will be something to look forward to and to fight for...but we just dont know the future, so if children will be important to you, secure yourself and have your kids as soon as you are capable. Don't wait like I did.

Thank you for sharing ur story. That is such a hard thing to go through. I am 31 and just finished chemo for stg3 ovarian cancer. The day I was diagnosed, my first thought was I want to live a long happy and healthy life with my husband. I had a full hysterectomy and didn’t think of getting my eggs frozen, assuming it would be a huge expense. I didn’t like the idea of knowing I might die from this and leave my husband alone, and potentially leaving children behind. I’m coming to the realization more and more that I will never experience motherhood. My husband has been my rock and says as long as we have each other, we will be okay. I’m happy with that. But I will say, it stings a little to know all that was sacrificed. Idk what the future will bring me, but I have made peace with it. It is a hard decision to live with. Your story touched me and it’s an important one to share. I find so much strength in it🙏 I do wish I had someone to tell me this.

Jessica, you are so lucky to have your "rock". Brian is a rare gem. SO glad you two have eachother during this extremely tough time. I also believe that you will have a great outcome and you will come out on the other side a stronger and more confident person for all that you have been through. Sending prayers for a full and speedy recovery!

Thank you so much for the update. Goodness, the stuff you are going through, you could have just said screw it, I'll focus on me; but here you guys are. Maybe you know, maybe not, but many of us, if not all, found you by looking for weight loss help and recipes. We did find that, but we also found a sweet, loving couple where we found ourselves anxiously waiting for the next video. Every once in awhile I get a sense of something other than sweet, like strong people with a strong bond, willing to fight for what is right. Now you are faced with such a fight and you guys will hold each other up and make it thru this. Brian, please know I pray for you just as much as Jessica. Your part is just as tough because of the helplessness you must feel and probably feeling you always have to be there for Jessica. You guys got this as long as you have each other.

Thanks so much for the updates. That’s definitely a lot on both of you. I’m glad that the second surgery has given you some relief Jessica! We’re all out here cheering you on because you are both such great people who clearly want to help others. I’m so happy for the outpouring of financial support you received. Please take good care of yourselves-Brian too of course-and just try and take it one “thing” at a time. I found that was helpful for me when I went through my cancer treatment. It can be overwhelming at times, so I would focus on the next procedure or event and get through that as best as I could. ♥️♥️♥️

You’re the first other person I’ve heard of with the issue passing out when you throw up. Since my late teens, I’m 51 now. Prayers for you about this and your bigger issues. 🙏❤️

Continued prayers and constant thoughts coming your way, Jessica. Yes, you are a young otherwise healthy fighter of cancer and you will be a great testimony as to how to fight this rare cancer and live a long long life!

I'm so relieved to see an update. I have been praying for you two since I was recommended your first video in this series of pain. I'm so glad to hear you're going to Rochester and Mayo Clinic. Best of the best in my eyes. My Father lives in Buffalo, MN and has been to Mayo a couple of times. You've got this Jessica!! You've got an amazing Husband supporting you and being your rock and a whole team of prayer warriors praying for both of you, your Dr's and all you come in contact with. Sending love, hugs and prayers to both of you !! Sweet doggy too !! P.S. I'm wondering if Jessica has the same reaction to intense pain as I do. I've got spine and neck pain from a head on car wreck, not my fault, plus fibromyalgia. On really awful pain days the nausea is awful. I was on Oxycodone but figured out it was also caused by the med. Now on a nerve blocking med that's helped me so much.

When you had your surgery and said you had cancer, my first thought was neuroendocrine cancer. I've followed a young man in England who was diagnosed with Stage 4 in his small intestines, lymph nodes and liver. He went through some tough times but is NED, doing great and getting back to running and is running a marathon! (Peter M. Riley if you want to check him out--nice guy!). So I think Team Krock will kick C's butt! Sorry you're going through so much. It will suck. But I feel like you've got this!! ❤️💐

I am relieved to hear that you have some positive things you can do now and still praying for God’s blessings and healing for you, Jessica. Thank you, Brian, for being such a good and supportive husband. Praying for you too.

I am wishing all the best as you begin this journey to eradicating these cancers. Please consider a couple second opinions from different institutions that have treatment programs for neuroendocrine tumors because as you know, they are very rare. Stanford, UCSF, Mayo Clinic and MD Anderson all have neuroendocrine programs. Many will present your case to the Tumor Review Board and do telemedicine appointments so you do not have to travel. I have a genetic defect that causes polycythemia and neuroendocrine tumors. Do you have a high red blood cell count by any chance? If so, it would be worthwhile to ask one of your doctors to run the test for EPAS1/HIF2A. It is only available at the Mayo Clinic. I hope your stent really does the trick and you start to feel better each day.

I am a 12 year breast cancer survivor and I am a firm believer that attitude is everything, so keep that positivity as it will help you through . I am new to your channel and I have thoroughly enjoyed the videos that I've watched so far. Go bless you both 🙏 🙌 Hugs from a Georgia girl 👧 🤗
