A more involved job today, though not to complex, just lots of brute force and fiddling required.
The Discovery 2 had developed a rather noisy hum at the front right when taking left hand bends. I instantly recognised this as a hub/wheel bearing on it's way out.
Of course, with the Discovery 2, it's not possible to replace the bearing as a separate unit, requiring instead a new hub with bearing built in.
Whilst I'm at it, the front brake discs are heavily worn, so will be replacing those, as well as the pads.

good job, i always change the driveshaft oil seal as well while at this stage just as a matter of course. its the same hub/bearing for the back just with an oring as the oil seal and a different length abs sensor but its the same hub/bearing.

Good video, it would be really helpful if you could list the tools needed, or even just the sockets. I started following it then found I needed the 19mm 12 sided socket which you don’t mention.

You are going to need to get a 3/4" drive socket set, you were extremely lucky to get the drive shaft nut undone like that

+James Packer Thanks James. Yes it did seem to come undone fairly easily. Managed to refit it all today and roped in a 'local' to do the nut up again. :) Hopefully Part Two should be up some time tonight.

that nut has a safety lock bend, i used one arm of a 8 mm spanner and tap it with hammer for straighten the lock bend or a small flat screwdriver, the rest was easy :)

top tip if and when you are undoing and doing up the driveshaft nut turn steering justa small bit to move tooling and knuckles away from any bodywork

Can't get the wheel bearing off of the half shaft and hub, it's stuck solid! Trying to replace the ball joints and can't get the bearing and half shaft out, any ideas?

Wow the teeth in that ratchet are strong, many a ratchet broken by using it like this, i always have a 1/2 drive and 3/4 drive breaker bar with scaffold pole extension

oooooooooo the bend in that ratchet, my sphincter was twitching like a rabbits nose. Still, a good job so far matey.

Nice. I've got a '96 I'm working on and a 97 for parts. I love my Rover. Do you know if the front brake rotors are interchangeable?

is the front rear bearing, the same as the rear, i have a new rear bearing home, but can i use it to the front, ore is not the same ?.. :-) good video btw

yes, you can, the ABS sensor cable might be a little bit shorter but you can use the old one.
