The chatter at idle from a aluminum flywheel most of the time is from the bolts shifting or biting into the aluminum after the 1st engagement of the clutch making the flywheel bolts "loose" Ive installed a dozen or so and started using red locktight and never had a issue with rattles or chatter at idle

Went with a chromoly forged steel racing flywheel. Weighs 13.6 pounds. Matches perfectly with the ACT 6 puck HD clutch and pressure plate rated for 650ib of torque. Little over kill but it feels AMAZING.. I literally start 1st gear with 2000rpm. Smooth engagement and no shutter feeling like my last clutch. I haven't done any pulls or launches. Still in the 1200 mile break in. see how it goes.

Yep same lightweight flywheel like 10 lb getting off the line on first gear it's kind of hard to get used to it ribs are really quick when I barely step on the gas and yeah I have a bigger thought about it too so maybe that's why it's so sensitive car really has 180 i I'm still need to break it in 500 more miles and I'm going to start rompping the shit out of it

Chattering is typical when installing a single mass lightweight flywheel. It’s the job of the springs in the dual mass to take out the imperfections in the engine which is transferred to the gearbox at idle. It’s not bad products or a dodgy engine, just putting something that is not designed for that setup on it.
@justzzack2 жыл бұрын
@@samcook7046 yes yes, and the dual mass obviously has more space for vibrations to go through/absorb so when you you basically drops the space in half you are feeling/hearing more vibrations

Torque when going uphill will be afected to. It will not hold the gears at the same rpm as it did with a heavy flywheel.
@edlingja16 жыл бұрын
Chris Cutajar Law of diminishing returns (it will be okay with a very similar weight, but lose power on hills with stock power); you won't notice losses if it is say 3 lbs lighter and has a different contact texture. But a 7 lb or even a ½ difference would be significant.
@She1lby3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't make sense, torque is not affected by flywheel. Inertia is and this is the case only from a complete stop. In all other cases lighter flywheel should give you less parasitic losses so it will be better everywhere.
@clifford_2zero72 жыл бұрын
the only performance downfall of a lighter flywheel is during a launch.. if the vehicle doesn't have much torque to begin with and or lots of grip it can bog off the line. A heavy flywheel will store energy while revving it prior to engagement. If your car is bogging uphill and you suspect your lightweight flywheel is to blame, i encourage you to think outside that box because you probably just need to downshift 😅😅😅 Anyways, this is why aluminum flywheels aren't reccomend for drag racing. Hard launches, sticky tires etc. BUT aluminum flywheels are reccomended for auto X or road course/ rally etc.

I can add my two cents. when i got one it was really hard to adjust to it for probably 3-6 months. A lot more stalls and even now if I'm flustered it's easy to stall. It's harder to hit that sweet spot rpm because it revs quicker. It does seem faster to accelerate. you have to be quick at shifting to match rpms but i never had much trouble with that since I always shifted fast anyway. haven't really noticed the uphill issue being weaker. In my car it has the toyota version of vtec which means it gets a lot faster at high rpm so i believe this means i probably have a fair bit better 0-60 than stock but i haven't really measured. It is absolute death in very slow traffic however. like in absolute going at a crawl gridlock I want to kill myself. I can ease out the clutch in first with no gas and not stall it but it's *very* borderline and shudders a bit. never noticed any chatter so i'm not sure what that is about. My overall feeling is that the car does not do as well when you go slow and it's happiest when it's going fast.

I’m sure a well balanced flywheel/clutch will reduce the chatter quite a bit
@averyalexander2303 Жыл бұрын
The balance doesn't really have anything to do with the chatter. That's caused by the gears and splines in the transmission rattling against each other when not under load due to less dampening of the engine's torque pulses. As someone else said, it can also be caused by loose flywheel bolts. A well balanced flywheel is critical for the longevity of the engine and overall smoothness though.

@filiplaskovski99937 жыл бұрын
EJCelani123 nope
4 жыл бұрын
Why would you need a new tune? Nothing in your motor is changing, you are simply taking a small bit or load and weight from the drivetrain, nothing more.. Its almost like the equivalent of getting super light rims.. You only need tuning if you are changing the functioning of you motor.. (new intake, new exhaust, new cams, new pistons, ect).. Anything that could alter the air/fuel balance would require a tune. Taking weight from you drivetrain does not do this, it just allows your motor to spin and work with less effort.
