I'm a firm believer there is no such thing as simple construction. The plan might be simple, but construction is always complicated. Flubbed the cut, messed up the weld, drilled the hole a little too big, didn't measure right, and my personal favorite, "It was supposed to fit!" Impressive how you made it look simple.

Nice job. If I was going to build something like this, I would use a composites approach to save weight, and when using a wood or foam core, you also get significant vibration dampening which is nice. S-glass fiberglass + high quality epoxy + plywood core makes some pretty strong and durable for the weight stuff. Even better add some carbonized CNC's (cellulose nanocrystals) to the epoxy. Also, for tubes, bamboo + S-glass fiberglass+epoxy+foam core makes some awesome tube structures. And if people want to do things on the cheap and still save some weight, regular fiberglass + plywood + Titebond III works pretty good as well. Believe it or not, Titebond III has a similar tensile strength (in some cases higher) as many regular store bought, two part epoxies. It's water based, has no fumes, is super non toxic, is pretty waterproof, and is far cheaper than the high quality epoxies used for boats, race cars, etc. (If using bamboo though, I would not use Titebond III for that unless the tubes are not load bearing. If they are load bearing at all, poney up for the high quality expensive epoxies with around 10k psi tensile strength and other high strengths.) Really, composites is where it is at for very high strengths at lower weights. And just adding 2% by weight graphenic graphite or carbonized CNC's to the epoxy helps to turn that S-glass composite better than expensive carbon fiber, but at much cheaper cost (it's fairly easy and inexpensive to make the above). I would also switch out the brushed motor for a brushless.
@fade76632 жыл бұрын
ok
@tonyduncan98522 жыл бұрын
Very true. Bamboo is totally impressive - especially for crushing strength.
@mikesalive2 жыл бұрын
Good points but sometimes heavier is better. Your knowledge of composites is good but please show a single example of anyone in the world DIY building a grunty escooter using them. Btw, have you ever built a scooter?
@justinw17652 жыл бұрын
@@mikesalive I have an even better example. James Biggar built a full on electric motorcycle out of a composite of plywood and fiberglass, in his video titled "How I Built An Electric Motorbike...Out Of Plywood?" And no, when it comes to especially electric vehicles which are run by batteries, heavier is NOT better--it means you have less battery life. Composites also can create far stronger structures at less weight than straight metal structures. It's why race cars, aerospace, etc, etc uses a lot of composite design. The new Aptera car is also built out of primarily composites and their crush and crash testing is quite impressive as to the strength to weight ratio. Their car is so light weight and aerodynamic that it gets ridiculously high travel time/distance for its batteries. No, I have not built an electric scooter before/yet. I'm in the middle of a project currently and can't start anything new for awhile, especially since after the prototype is finished and tested, it will be going on a crowdfunding site. It is on the eventual bucket list to build some kind of electric vehicle though. If my product takes off and I eventually have the money to hire people to build it for me, then I will have the time and money to do other projects for myself.
@mikesalive2 жыл бұрын
@@justinw1765 As I said, sometimes heavier is better. Increased weight provides greater inertial stability for moving vehicles. You will come to understand this with experience. Nothing in your wall of text is new information to me as I've been using composites in my own projects since the 1990's. Intriguing that a man who has time to write such long comments on youtube videos doesn't have time for extra projects. As they say, "if you want something done, give it to a busy person." That being said, I wish you all the best in your upcoming life.
