Man, why did I watch this video, I have the Fuji 35mm f1.4 and have waited a long time to buy that lens for that extra edge and look. Now I'm tempted to buy this Mitakon. I'm a portrait shooter, so this is perfect for that, although I've never used the focus peaking, this might be the lens for me to try out. Great work on this video, real-world usage is always appreciated and how with certain types of genre. Thank you

If you love this lens, it's worth checking out the new mk2 Kamlan 50mm f1.1 for fuji x-mount. At that focal length, it's harder to nail perfect focus at f1.1, but it has beautiful bokeh, all metal hood, buttery smooth aperture and focus rings, and is built like a tank.

Definitely agree with the aperture ring, but I've just gotten into the habit of twisting the aperture ring back whenever I bring it up to my eye. This lens is fun for weddings later into the evening, after you've already gotten everything you need for the day and you can just experiment and get weird with it.

I have two ‘’favorite’’ manual lenses for my XT3 .... this one obviously and also the KAMLAN 50mm F1.1 mk2 that is very impressive too. Some ‘’vintage’’ lenses too, like the SMC Takumar 50/1.4, the FUJINON 55/1.8, the KONICA Hexanon AR 50/1.7, the KONICA Hexanon AR 40/1.8 and the KONICA Hexanon AR 85/1.8. hi, thanks for the review, and i agree for portraits. I own a copy, and tried shooting a video at .95 with around 16 to 18 feet from camera and subject. even using the focus peaking, the video ended up being very soft. i did expect some softness, but it was not remotely close to that. So, is it wrong to shoot that wide open at that distance? I am a beginner. thanks in advance.
@HVRIS
@HVRIS 4 жыл бұрын
I think perhaps stay away from that in the beginning, since at 0.95 if a subject moves ever so slightly you will lose focus. So you definitely need to practice and learn this lens before reaping the rewards, hope that helps 🙏🏼

Do you have the 35/1.4? If so, how do the two compare? I adore my 35/1.4 and uncertainty over whether the two can live together in my bag keeps me from pulling the trigger on the Mitakon.
@HVRIS
@HVRIS 4 жыл бұрын
Well, I have three 35mm lenses haha all with different purposes (f1.4, f2, & f0.95) I use the 1.4 for event and weddings because the 1.4 is decent and has auto focus. The f2 for video because it’s snaps on the subjects face, or street photography, the focus is so much faster. The f0.95 for portrait & those lazy “Sundays” where you just want to have fun! - I hope this answers your question, basically if your shoot everyday and earn money from photo/video it adds a little spice to your work, therefore it’s worth it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nice review, thanks man. I was thinking of this lens for long time, cheers. Just a bit confused, Why do you multiply the aperture to the cropping factor? It's scientifically and optically irrelevant, cropping the lens doesn't change its diameter it just change the final object distance , not even perception, eg: cropping a picture taken on a crop sensor 35mm doesn't equal in perception the same picture taken by 50mm full frame, as if you just cutting the edges of the cropped one, but not changing the perception of the lens, as aperture is a lens structure and that allow light to be dispersed evenly over the camera sensor, so cropping that picture, doesn't reduce the light intensity per each mm of your sensor, it stays the same after cropping
@HVRIS
@HVRIS 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! I’ve read many articles on this topic and the consensus is that it is not the amount of light that changes but the depth of field, meaning: “how blurry the background gets” that changes. I appreciate your explanation, I think we are on the same page. Maybe I explained it in a confusing way in the video.

You are saying that you are getting 0.95 low light capability. This is a mute point as a FF camera has better ISO performance than a crop one due to the larger sensor. When you use a FF camera and lens, you get an f-stop advantage both in terms of depth of field and low light performance. Sorry, you cannot have your cake and eat it.
