Man the teg sounds like it runs soooo much better now with a short gear trans ! That Ls trans was KILLINGGG ITTT but atleast you'll have a nice trans for boost ;)

Sounds real nice at full throttle
@Johnman57575 жыл бұрын
I don't see anything wrong with sitting at 4000-4500 RPM, that's right around peak torque, it's not a big V8. Prior to having a tow vehicle I drove my JDM ITR 4.7 trans over 8 hours one way to track days, beat on it and then drove it home no issues. Let it eat. However an after market exhaust and no rear interior makes the Integra super loud and buzzy, that wears you down the most.
@averyalexander23032 жыл бұрын
Mechanically it should be fine, Honda wouldn't sell an engine/trans combination that would self destruct at normal cruising speeds. However, the noise is ridiculous and I'm sure sitting at such a high RPM continuously will kill the gas mileage. But towing it certainly wouldn't be any cheaper!
@AaroKo Жыл бұрын
@@averyalexander2303 actually being in your peak torque area on your torque curve means that you have to give her little less or the same amount of gas for the speed to remain the same so what I'm saying that the fuel mileage wouldn't be that bad :)
@AaroKo Жыл бұрын
fuel mileage should be thought like how much you have to open the throttle plate and not by looking at the rpm. for example you'll not save fuel for driving small engine in big gear and 2000rpm that makes torque after 3000rpm because you'll have to press more gas or the engine will struggle to keep it moving
@averyalexander2303 Жыл бұрын
@@AaroKo The problem with that theory is that the engine's peak torque rating only applies at full throttle and is meaningless at low throttle settings. The engine won't be making anywhere near peak torque at the >10% throttle he's probably using while cruising. A high load at a low to moderate RPM is generally more efficient than a low load at a high RPM because pumping losses and frictional losses will be lower and cylinder pressures will be higher. Look up some example BSFC curves and you will see what I mean. That's why Honda's ultra high efficiency cars like the first gen Insight, CRX HF, and Civic HX/VX are geared very tall.
@AaroKo Жыл бұрын
@@averyalexander2303 the torque curve isn't gonna go unlinear whether is it 10% or is it 100% throttle, only the numbers will change but the torque curve itself is not going to change dramatically, atleast not towards lower rpm anyway so your point doesn't make any sense. and also your point about the gear ratios is quite interesting because it's only making the engine have to work harder to get up to speed, only benefit of longer gear ratios will be at long highway distances with zero accelerating or decerating at all...

Good video. I'm putting an LS 5th gear in mine and I track my car. Even on the track, it's rare to go into 5th. And if I do, it's usually for not too long. The difference in my lap times will be negligible. The overall benefit of the LS 5th gear out weighs that completely.
@PhoenixRising2513 жыл бұрын
I've been considering a 3.07 first gear along with the MFactory 4.92 final drive in my ITR trans. The car isn't a daily driver and I think on the street it would rip! Just trying to make a fun reliable weekend warrior. Really enjoyed this video because it's kinda the unplugged real world experience.

I think all you need is a quiet exhaust homie!! (: I myself have the 98 Spec ITR transmission and it's pretty rad.. Wish the 3 to 4th was a little closer but eh I can't complain, maybe someday I'll get a shorter 4th to throw in there like the one from the 96 spec trans.
@aw6145 жыл бұрын
I have the 4.785, its not bad on the highway with an OEM ITR catback and my car still has the full interior, but I probably am losing some power, but I'll take the quiet exhaust for cruising. However, I think the RPM drop from 3rd-4th gear is somewhat noticeable if you are on the track and there are situations where its faster to short shift, sometimes its really close to dropping off VTEC if it isn't set low enough. But that would also be dependent on the car and engine setup. IMO, the B16/USDM ITR tranny with the 4.4 is a better all-around transmission that works better in more situations (mixed use autox, track, daily), but for highway usage, they are about the same due to the GSR 4-5th. For autox, the B16/USDM ITR would put me at 62mph in second gear vs 57/8 mph so it I end up either riding the limiter, or short shifting in 3rd b/c the 2nd to 3rd shift is fairly short. But the B16 would work better since most courses don't put you over 60 mph. For the track, I think the 4.7 with b16 4/5 is probably the best option, or b16 with 4.7 and gsr 5th, but that is also track dependent.
@hisnherintegra74405 жыл бұрын
The 4.4 is ok although mines is not a true typer trans. Me going 65 in fifth with ls fifth the rpms sit around three grand going 70 it sit at thirty five grand and 80 im at 4 grand. Thats with an ls fifth gear. But love the trans the power is always there through out the whole range of the rpms regaurdless if its in third going 30 mph and punch it it gets up and go. My trans set up is gsr 1-2 b16 3-4 with ls fifth an 4.4 fd with lsd. Gotta say i love it.

I have the same problem with my EK4. I have type R ITR for just about everything except the block. The thing I don't like is I'm straight piped and I get scared from cops because they'll sticker my car, and that's like $500 to remove the sticker. The other problem I have is the fuel consumption with the high revs. To drive around efficiently and without a car screaming its face off, I have to drive it at 80km/h or about 50mph on the highway.
@maxherman41745 жыл бұрын
Your going to boost on top of that? Good luck with traction, probably going to throw off your handling at the track in a bad way. What is your reason for not wanting to do cams? My stock block gsr made 196whp with skunk2 tuner 1 cams, so your engine should make over 200 with same cams easily. Especially with a good header, and intake manifold.
@MITONFILMS5 жыл бұрын
Stock block gsr with tuner 1 cams @196🤔🤔🤔NANI? as far as the trans + boost go if it ends up being too much ill just swap my trans out, but im sure itll be okay.
@maxherman41745 жыл бұрын
Miton Films yup 196whp,138wtq@8500 rpm, video should be up in the next couple weeks. I have SMSP header(guaranteed gains for any setup) skunk2 pro intake manifold, the cams, and a basic aem short ram. Everything else is stock and on an LS trans, so your setup should definitely be able to make over 200 with some cams a better intake manifold and a good header. Don’t take my word for it though, if you want to boost it boost it. Learn from your own choices and experience, it is the best way to learn these things

Nice review, thanks for sharing! That gearing is way too aggressive for my taste though. For a race car or someone who lives in the city I'm sure it's fine, but I do a lot of highway driving so I'd happily give up a bit of acceleration for a more reasonable cruising rpm since about 90% of my driving is on the highway cruising in top gear.
@jdmlsr20002 жыл бұрын
This 98 spec ITR tranny that you're featuring in this video has identical 4th (1.034) & 5th (.787) gear ratios as a GSR so your 70 or 80mph hwy cruising rpm's would be identical, correct?

Get a tall 6th gear! I installed the 2012-2015 Civic Si 6th gear in mine because it's the tallest K series 6th gear available. 70 MPH is now around 2700 RPM in 6th. Even lower would be nice, but the only way I could get my RPM down further would be with a taller final drive than my current 4.3, which I don't want. I also got a TSX 5th gear for less of a drop between 5th and 6th, but that's just personal preference.

Nothing wrong with daily driving a Type R. It was still made as a road car. It will rev higher of course but it's about percent of the rev range. 4k is a lot for most cars because they redline at like 7k. You just have to decide do you mind the extra noise

My only issue with revving high is the A/C compressor. If I have any car that can be driven on the street it's going to have it! Live in the humid south for one summer and you'll understand. Then again using a 4.92 final drive that is only a 10% increase in RPM is probably alright. I get more concerned about the compressor if I decided to take the car on a long interstate trip at 70-80 MPH.
@averyalexander230310 ай бұрын
@@PhoenixRising251 Why would the AC compressor be a problem? Don't you think the engineers at Honda specified an appropriate compressor and pulley ratio for the engine's intended RPM range? Holding 70-80 MPH certainly isn't anything extreme or out of the ordinary.

@T3KN0iD5 жыл бұрын
Not sure about this and with older Hondas but the speedo reads from gear 3, so without reconfiguring the ECU your speedo will read incorrectly if the gear ratio has changed. Mine does this and I reference my GPS for actual speed.
@averyalexander230310 ай бұрын
Isn't that just a K series thing? As far as I know, the B/D/H/F and many of the early K series transmissions read the speed from the differential, so the only change that would affect the speedometer's accuracy would be tire size.
