The long wait for the next Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Gou video is over, as today I take a deep dive into its next arc: Nekodamashi-hen. This arc is completely anime original, so I couldn't compare it to the visual novel or to the original Deen anime. Regardless, I still tried to give you guys the best analysis video that I could, and I hope I was able to deliver. Join me today as we delve into the truth behind the new loops of Hinamizawa with Rena Ryuugu, Keiichi Maebara, Mion Sonozaki, Shion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, and Satoko Houjou.

well seeing that you are live streaming the latest episodes right now, I guess there is no point to avoid spoilers so lets get into this. A thing I find very interesting when talking about people about this finale arc is how people think the narrative is forced and Rika and Satoko would talk it out. when it is very clear that neither has any reason to change course at all. Satoko allowed herself to trust Rika and her dream twice and it ended the same, and Rika spent 100 years getting her dream. there is no compromise for this. another thing people seem to forget about the last arc is that it is a flashback to gou. we have already seen how far she has gone to destroy Rika. the characters are not just going to hug it out in the end. I do not believe Rika will kill Satoko, I suspect that Satoko will kill herself, but I could be wrong. I said in a different comment that the epilogue of Kai mattered a lot to this story and a big thing in that story is that it showed that if Satoko had anyone else in her life, she would Never be friends with Rika. In fact Satoko would despise her, we saw that world, we know it exists. these two were never meant to be friends in the first place.

Little bit about the auction/Mahjong stuff, the same events happen in chapter 7 of the Visual Novels Minagoroshi. The Mahjong bit is a way to establish friendly relations with Ooishi and Keichi's position as the guy running the auction gives him access to Watanagashi planning committee meetings which he uses to rile up the elderly in his attempt to save Satoko from Teppei

Weird how fandoms work sometimes. I’ve been somewhat a part of many kinds of fandoms and the strangest thing is that most of the more toxic ones exist in franchises and series that are the exact opposite of toxic. Animal Crossing is one of those. I would have assumed Higurashi would fall into that category too but I guess not

What do you consider toxic? Personally I didn't like Gou very much. I think making a convincing sequel to Higurashi is close to impossible, with it's ultimate message of believing in cooperation, trust and friendship, as well as Rika being over 100 years old, you have to write the story in a way that these lofty concepts are maintained, which I think they've failed to do. Satoko so easily mistrusts Rika despite the lesson they learned in the original story, to always confide in your friends, work together and anything's possible. Rika doesn't behave like a 100+ year-old looper, who should have caught on to Satoko's behaviour multiple points throughout the story. The word "toxic" is used too easily nowadays. I won't imply it's what you are doing, but I hope having a negative opinion on something doesn't automatically = toxic. I love Higurashi, I didn't like Gou and thought it was unnecessary. I think people are free to like it, and hate it. I just hate to seeing people adopt the opinion that rather than "you liked it" or "you didn't like it", it's either "you liked it" or you're toxic.

@@bradleycoates6297 No I think in this sense, toxic refers to people that are really negative and mean to each other. A good example would be Attack on Titan's fandom, who will start attacking those with different opinions, staff members, and more. That's toxic. Having different opinions, like what you have about Gou, isn't toxic at all

Featherine calls her Miyoko, which was the original name of Takano, between other names. Probably, like Rika and Erika with Bernkastel, both Takano and Satoko are "pieces" of Lambdadelta, just that this is a new kind of game in the same board.

Spoilers Witches can have more than one piece. Satoko is like Erika Furudo to BERNKASTEL. However, Battler is also BERNKASTEL's piece in Episode 5 like Takano is LAMBDADELTA's in the original.

I've watched the entirety of Higurashi at this point but the Watanagashi ritual Satoko performed on Rika was the most gut-wrenching scene i had to watch so far, every time she hit her it was like a _''that hurt''_

I mean it's technically featherines fault since she was the one to manipulate Satoko for her own entertainment. Satoko might think Featherine is doing good for her, but watch after the next few episodes Satoko will feel like she wants to die after what she has done to rika, but by then it's already too late and becomes a pawn of Featherine.

@@robby7499 I blame neither, whole Rika kinda does ghost Satoko in a way, it also doesn't give Satoko the excuse to go ahead and kill Rika. Satoko should've done something like maybe making herself better or making herself to the level of Rikas where they can still academically be together, but no Satoko ruins the chance of doing it by becoming a usual selfish teenager. While I wouldn't really blame Satoko since she's an adolescent and a lot of Adolescence make the most foolish thing ever even if it means threatening someone to stay with them, but by then once Satoko comes back to her senses, she will already realize that Featherine was just using her and then Satoko will suffer even more. Both Rika and Satoko have become tragic characters, but at the same time it caused the most ridiculous beef between those two.

Other thing that can connect lambda with satoko is the fact that lambda at one point in the vn of umineko uses the cake puzzle that keiichi said to satoko in onikakushi-hen,so it wouldn't be that crazy that bern and lambda are part of this game

Fun fact, originally it was supposed to be Chie that went L5 instead of Kimiyoshi. She was gonna lock Rika in the school at night and break all her fingers. The only reason it didnt come to fruition is because Chie is based closely on a character from another visual novel, Tsukihime, and Ryukishi thought it would be disrespectful to make her do that

It IS canon that Mion and Shion swapped places when they were young. Before one of them got the demon tattoo. This means Mion is the original Shion and vice versa. From that moment they were forced to live as the opposite for the rest of their lives. This means the Shion we know was actually named Mion when she got born and vice versa. Idk if this made into the DEEN anime but it is shown in both the manga and the VNs

it didn't show up in the DEEN anime, mainly because most of the plot points that made that tidbit of information relevant was also cut out. Overall, the anime didn't focus on Mion or her overall relationship with Shion much at all. The anime was honestly a disservice to Mion's character, but I guess they were already struggling enough to adequately adapt the series in a way that made it feel complete. Oh well.

The mahjong scene is also just a Visual Novel reference. Same with Keiichi being the Auction House guy. You really gotta read the VNs, they are leagues above the DEEN adaptation, but you've probably heard this already.

4:14 I think this didn't make it into the Deen anime, but Mion and Shion were switched when they were 10 permanently (they switched places during the day when the real Mion was supposed to get the heir's tattoo, and Shion got in instead, and since then she lived as 'Mion' and vice versa) but that isn't relevant outside Maekashi/Watanagashi, probably

St. Lucia Academy is mentioned in Umineko, I think it just is cementing the two stories take place in the same universe. Also happy you mentioned Lambdadelta and satokos similarities. I haven't finished umineko yet (or the higurashi vn), but the two stories definitely seem related. Something to note is that bernkastel and rika share the same voice actress, while satoko and lambdadelta do not (unless satoko has a new voice in the new series, I just watch your videos lol)

I saw from a translated interview (I don't remember where it was shared) that the creator thought of making the teacher also a killer but didn't cause she's a "guest character" and it'd be a shame to do that. The teacher is based on a character from another well-known VN, Tsukihime, as a sort of parody character. Anyways, I thought it was awesome you caught a lot of clues about Satoko the arcs before this. I enjoy the theories as well. I can't wait for the video for the next arc as well!

St. Lucia was firstly mentioned in Higurashi, beeing the school Shion attended but we get to know this hell of a place in Umineko since one of the charscters is also attending there. That school can easily lead people into insanity.

When Rika said that she would try for 5 more loops, I expected at least 5 more episodes, at least one for each loop. Then they just up and did all 5 in one episode. Blew my mind. And their minds too (literally).

Yep just two more eps left. Just like bruh No Sane person would put that much dedication especially on the Mental department to look at a person's Hundred years struggle just to use it against them. Like honestly the most f uped thing, I mean Change is part of Life cause That is Life. Ever changing yet Satoko can't just accept it in Open arms. And seriously Knowing that Satoshi is Alive and (Not) well. And just like saying her final Good byes is just bruh. Honestly i wonder what would happened if she just goes together with the gang to Angel's Mort. Cause I'm curious if that could have been an (alternate) end(ing), cause If Satoshi was there now Cured from his H173 and the gang is like doing a surprise for Satoko then i wonder if all of this would have been avoided. Satoko probably know all the truth behind Satoshi and all incident in different path since she watched all Rika's 100 years loop. Seems like there is nothing for Satoko can do in order to save her brother. So she ends up like she must break Rika to forget about her dream to go St. Lucia as soon as possible or Satoko will make Rika suffers more. It makes sense for me but it's still unclear until we see next episode.

After all, that would ruin her fun; so why not say that the shard can kill one who loops when it actually does something else to the looper? Your thoughts on Higurashi Gou is amazing. I've been a fan since the beginning of the first anime adaption but I was too scared to watch it then. I could only handle so much. Watching it now, everything makes so much sense. The Nekodamashi-hen arc is honestly my favorite cause it adds so much more to the original story in my opinion. I honestly can't wait to see your thoughts on the recent episode and more of your thoughts when the series continues. They psychological mind bending horror of Higurashi is so interesting to see and put together. I definitely need to catch up on Umineko so I can make more sense of what's happening. Glad this was recommended to me a month later lol

I can't believe people are supporting Satako. Like I can kinda see her motives. You want to go back to the 'good times' because the new school hasn't been good to her. Rika isn't treating her like a friend anymore and that sadly happens in life. But, yeah. Going full yandere and subjecting your friends- even if they don't remember- back into timeloops of hell that Rika worked so hard to defeat, is unforgivable. And no, Satako's bad upbringing isn't an excuse for what she did.

Yeah I mean they're both in the wrong (spoilers for those i guess haven't caught up and is reading this?) So for Rika forcing Satoko to be with her in a sense that she wants to go to her Dream school with Satoko. (plus the school is f uped man I mean a prison?! then again miscommunication is the cause too but... yeah can't really put it into words properly or can't clear my mind in a sense it's Satoko's fault too cause i mean going with the same school with her can work just like Keiichi, Mion and Rena going to the same university if I'm not mistaken [correct me if I'm wrong] But because of Satoko pushing Rika away in a Figurative sense i guess and for Rika kind of occupied[?] It's like yeah) (p.s sorry for the really long text) But shet man Satoko's just overweighs Rika by a Freakin Boulder. Like in that Truck-Kun scene she could have respectfully declined and said that No thanks i want to utilise my traps for Engineering school or something. But nope instead we got her just restarting time (or looped) and Freakin studied Rika's Memories which Took 100 years (or a very long long time) which is just WTF tbh cause no sane person would even attempt that kind of dedication (especially in the mental department) Honestly Satoko wanting Rika not to change is sad cause change is a Part of reality. or to be exact That IS Life. Rika literally killed her own mother and destroyed a happy universe where everyone was happy just for her own selfish desires. that's a thing that happened in the show.

Satoko killed Rika *once* while in an infuriated state of mind, and after that continued to only off herself. Plus while both are in the wrong, the VN itself has had Hanyuu call out Rika for not treating Satoko even remotely like an actual friend, and more like a pet or accessory. This is Rika's selfishness, lack of empathy, and shitty treatment of her friends coming back to bite her in the ass, even if it's a bit extreme. I think the important thing to note is that she didn't go full crazy until basically watching what was essentially a 100 year long snuff film marathon. She's beyond desensitized and very heavily mentally damaged at this point. Anything she does now holds no weight in her eyes, and she only sees it as a game, a battle of attrition.

Satoko's actions aren't justified and Rika is no saint. I think you can sympathize with them both though. I probably like Rika more then Satoko, but am a bit disappointed in the kind of girl Rika grew up into. A snob that wants her butt kissed by other snobs. Getting your butt kissed or spend time with the girl who helped save her life and risked her own? Also sacrificed 3 years of her already pretty crappy childhood just to study and make her dream come true. The only thing Rika offers is to help her study even though she knows she hates it and tells her to act more like the snobs. Satoko on the other hand involving Keiichi and the others is probably her most unforgivable thing IMO. She knows she can call Keiichi and the others up and they will gladly spend time with her.

thanks 4 explaining stuff abt the original series!! im not really one for anime, generally not a tv/movie/visual moving medium fan in general and even when it comes to manga it’s unlikely i’ll actually watch anything for myself, i don’t have the attention span for it, listening to people explain plots of things and talk about things they love is always so amazing, and i definitely appreciate the added context so i can understand whats going on!

Thank you for doing this very deep analysis of the higu episodes. Now i can piece together every little detail that i have missed. And make a prediction for the ending of the show. There was a interview with r07 a couple of days ago and stated there that the seiyuus did not believe on the ending of the show. And lastly it is now confirmed that higurashi will air up to 30 episodes this season. Maybe not more than 35. Hoping we'll see more answers to all of the previous arcs

The Mion-Shion switch during childhood is an important aspect in the original VN's version of the Eye Opening Arc, and if you want to be technical, the "Mion" leading the game club is technically Shion and the twin that's most commonly referred to as "Shion" is actually Mion. That said, it's absolutely OUR Mion that did Watadamashi. Also, the auction? That was a thing in the Massacre Arc. Makes a lot more sense in the VN as well, as they basically cut out Keiichi's entire role as a charismatic con man in the making from the old anime. Except for in the Massacre chapter, because OOPS, it turned out to be important. Like many other things they left out regardless. Higurashi 2006 is, essentially, a half-finished restaurant forced to open early that's good at keeping up the facade while people in the kitchen are working themselves to death in a panic, trying to slop together something that resembles your order, and the smoking area is a hole in spacetime that leads to limbo.

Thanks a lot for these videos!! I'm just a Gou watcher, so I didn't enjoy it much when I came to know that it's not actually a remake, but rather a sequel. I got the gist and summaries of previous Higurashi series (by Reddit post) because I didn't have (and still not have) time to binge watch it. But your videos really make me appreciate it. It's because of you that I understand what's actually going on in GOU, and I really like the connections. Some of my friends told me that Gou might be merging with Umineko verse because of the opening, but I didn't know what that implied. Now, with Featherine (and the explanations of Umineko gods in your video), I kinda of get it what that's implying. Waiting anxiously for your review/analysis on the Satokowashi-hen. Your videos are of such great quality that I was shocked when I checked today that you're actually a new channel with not many videos. When I started watching your Higurashi videos, I thought that you might have been a veteran for a long time in these series. I was already subscribed, but now I've turned all notification on for your videos too. Great channel! ❤️

I don't remember if this was explained in the deen anime or not, but in the visual novel it was actually explained that Satoko actually doesn't show much signs of L5 Hinamizawa Syndrome. When she first reached the stage after pushing her parents off the cliff and was later tested by Irie and came back positive, Irie noted that she seemed way too normal for someone with L5. Granted, in the scene where Satoko is preforming Watanagashi, I do think she was faking being L5. But still I felt like it was worth noting that Satoko is a pretty calm L5'er

I think something went very awry for Satoko at the end of Tataridamashi. It's weird for Satoko to be so deliberate and slow and calculated through those first few arcs, only for Nekodamashi to feel...a bit more haphazard and *far* more aggressive. I feel like her breakdown when Watanagashi-ing Rika was genuine, because she basically confesses everything right there. The only thing she doesn't admit to is her being a looper. I want to believe that not everything we've seen of Satoko in Gou is a brutally cold act cuz I'll be sad lol

Yeah her reaction is extremely genuine. She had been holding in those emotions for awhile, its only natural for it all come pouring out eventually. That is a very good point though, something had to have happened to make her suddenly just inject everyone with H173. Maybe its possible that seeing everyone save her made her feel guilty about doing all this? This could lead to her getting very emotional and impulsive

Considering the last few episodes, have made me decide I don’t like the either rika or satako in gou. I certainly understand the feeling. (Frankly to me the more interesting mystery is how did Keiichi become a highlander offscreen( think about it, his only possible death came from clawing out his own throat otherwise he survived every episode so far))

Episode 16 has the most brutal/explicit scene in all of higurashi. Edit: I watched up to episode 22 and it's scary how accurate you are. Not always, but most of the time.

As usual amazing video been waiting for this analysis for so long lelz. Because tbh there's a long things to unpack here especially on how F uped it is (Especially on a mental level) But yeah even without the H173 freakin satoko is insane (idk if this is spoilers?) (and as for why Satoko seemingly is Unharmed every time yeah... [I'll leave it as that because incase if it is considered as spoilers]) i guess its true what they say there's more than meets the eye and honestly I'm more hyped for this show like seriously did not expect to see Higurashi on post 2021 after like just rewatching it just to refresh my memory and discovering Gou by accident lelz. But yeah I'll be waiting for the next video which is 2 weeks(?) from now (aka the final two episodes i guess lelz) btw before you like make an analysis on the next batch of episodes first watch the Opening because it has a minor detail change (that is important for perspective reasons lelz) (if you ask me for what just spot the difference lelz) (p.s am I insane for genuinely laughing at that Rika beating Satoko with a chair scene lelz. I guess this is what they call returning the Favor in a sense xD)
