Another thing to consider here is that Neo never had much choice in anything, yes this is a theme of the films about society in general, but Neo in particular has the LEAST freedom of choice out of anybody. He is the product of everybody's expectations.

I disagree with this theory. 1- Neo killed those humans because he had no choice. When normal humans come across anomalies like Neo, Trinity and Morpheus who have "super powers" within the Matrix, it is a matter of seconds for the agents to detect the location of the human who saw this anomaly and take possession of their bodies. Neo didn't have time to enter the building subtly, so those lives had to be sacrificed. 2- Neo chooses Trinity over humanity because that's human, that's an obvious human choice, and the Architect made that very clear when Neo made his choice. Any of us humans would choose a great love than anyone else to save, that's human. Neo's anger at having to make this choice is visible when he tells the Architect that it was better if they didn't meet again. This shows that he had an appreciation for humanity. Being chosen to lead a people to freedom requires sacrifices, sacrifices that Neo was aware he would need to make if he wanted to free humans from being slaves to machines.

The version of Neo we see is not a villain. The One was programmed as a tool with a certain purpose. The Neo we see though falls in love with Trinity, changing him. He no longer just resists the agents and continues the cycle but has agency. He chooses Trinity, he chooses personal love, and through this and other choices saves what is left of humanity.

The true villain of The Matrix is the same as the Star Wars franchise. Joseph Campbell in The Hero with a Thousand Faces argued at the book's conclusion that the hero's ultimate purpose was to gain insight on how to resolve two apparently incompatible dualities and bring that message back to his or her people to accept or reject. Neither franchise has the slightest idea or willingness to resolve their essential dualities.

That was the point of Neo, Neo's Singularity or what machine error he solved was love. Every previous iteration of the One experienced Love in a generic way for the whole race not one human.

It would be interesting if Agent Smith: was taking over as many clients as possible to save them from Neo… to send them to the new version of the Matrix; before the current version crashed… and the final battle with Smith broke the physics system enough, that it finally crashed the old version, allowing the new version to start… That would make Neo and Smith both a required part of a system, with their mutual destruction always required to crash the system.

This theory is absolutely fun to mess around with, but the only way this theory could possibly hold any kind of water is if we ignore absolutely everything that actually occurred in the film and that we learned later on through rewatching them. We learned and understand that Neo was being used and directed, and if he hadn’t fell in love, he wouldn’t have been able to disrupt the entire system of control..

question is, at what point does Neo v1 - v6 know they are just another asset of the machines, "our" Neo, we'll call v7, even after choosing to Trinity over returning to the source then and there, still ended up returning to the source, still had his code update the Matrix. so even if he seemed to have gone in a different path than his past versions, it still came to pass that the one returned to the source, and a new version of the Matrix was patched, we don't know if The Matrix looks like the Mega City we see in the first 3 movies, or if the new version looks like the more modern day city we see in the the 4th movie, but I'm going to say the new version of the matrix is the one we see in Resurrections, like I still like to think of the nightmare matrix looking something like Dark City. what I'm trying to get at is, to be a true villain there needs to be intent, Neo as the 1 up to a point, was unaware of his part in the plot, and it wasn't until the oracle got Trinity involved in Neo's love for the continued survival of humanity, shifted to his singular love for Trinity, did his actions change. I want to know why they don't just clone Neo. They could have easily. They "grew" him new eyes essentially so they are more than capable of copy/paste body parts, why not a whole body. They can tap into brain functions and read the mind even take it over. No reason they could not copy/paste his brain and "code" also. If the reason he is "the one" is down to a unique identifier in a database. Let's say each person has a set number and whoever gets the lucky number is "the one" due to a bug occurring at that point, (a bit like the year 2000 y2k millennium bug) and this can only happen once per cycle. Then this "bug" could be fixed as it's a known point. The machine's could simply fix it and forget about "the one" ever happening again and have all problems solved. The fact this has not happened tells me that the machines could indeed make an infinite number of "the one" if they wanted.

Neo unconsciously followed Trinity and Morpheus because he hadn't yet been shown what the matrix was, the oracle and archtiect use the integral anomoly as a useful idiot because he is still naive but I think the ending of resurrections shows us that trin and neo realize they are clones "with another chance, they thought they would never have".

This version of Neo is new. In the sense that in The Matrix 4, He can remember everything from the past. Whereas his predecessors were a different human. He has no clue about them. Meaning that he did fulfill the prophecy. In a way. There was peace for a time. The matrix itself was balanced. That's why there wasn't another anomaly in the 60 years since this version was created. The machine civil war changed that.

I disagree… The Oppressive system was there from the start, it’s what led him Neo to make the choices he makes. Besides the matrix is really just a collection of metaphors for the commercialised system we live in as humans. The idea that the one who stands up and fights against the bullies of the oppressive system is the bad guy is simply just a gaslighting tactic which ignores all the behaviours of the bullies. The chosen one is always subject to ridicule by way of design, this is the design narrative reality created by the bullies which represent the controlling and oppressive system. For Neo didn’t come for them, it was actually they who were coming for him. Eventually events take a turn and Neo is strong enough and believes in himself enough that he’s then able to do some serious damage. And then figures out how to beat the oppressors. People fear him because he is unpredictable, and the reason that is is because they want to control him. Freedom whoever is a choice, and one can only lead a horse to water but you vcan’t make it drink… in theory people have to make choices themselves. However only a weak mind can be bend whereas a strong mind cannot be bent, which is why Neo represents the strong mind that cannot be broken, while anyone that believes Neo was the bad guy only rationalises the blue pill argument for the side of the machines and the system of oppression. For who se agenda does it actually benefit to believe Neo is the bad guy. And despite the Red pills distrust of Neo, that’s a default key behaviour of Red Pills in general who distrust the system, they distrust blue pills, agents , each other in the Trilogy also. And if people can help it they would rather avoid confrontation rather than face it, whereas Neo represents the Warrior mindset of someone who always faces the problem head on… yet it’s common place for the system of oppression to label those who stand up as evil and oppressive as that’s how they control the minds of the sheep and those who choose to remain NPC’s. And Neo was never mean to to save the people in the simulation, instead his purpose was to free and protect those real people who existed outside of the system. The system is only a metaphor for the Narcissists system which was created by them for them and therefore serves them… in any great battle between Empaths Vs Narcissists. The Empaths will eventually and always fight back, ye the this is only a retaliation move to the Narcissists who typically always without fail draw first blood. And Neo only represents the hero’s path which is a common story in society told over and over for centuries. And th Ed hero must always go through trials and tribulations to overcome the oppressive system, for if there was no desire by the oppressive system to oppress and treat everyone like shit, then there would be no need or desire to be the one who stands up
