I think these are the loveliest dog owners on the show so far. They clearly weren’t aware what they were doing was wrong for Nellie, and clearly wanted to do better. No delusions, or weird beliefs. Just a wholesome family

I had/have a dog like this, she was a failed hunting dog that her owners left tied to a tree and stabbed. She was on the euthanasia list because 'nobody wants a dog they can't even pet'. It's been eight happy years since then and while still skittish, she loves her people and is a big lovebug. Dog abusers are the worst kind of people.

These are such good dog owners, even though they needed some guidance to steer them in the right direction. Hearing at the very beginning of the episode the mother say that she feels she is lacking in her understanding of dogs as a whole is such great self-awareness. It’s so great to see that she knows she can learn the proper tools to give her dog the life Nellie deserves. Sometimes we get owners who think the dog is the whole problem and that their own behavior has nothing to do with it, so it’s lovely to see the desire to grow and learn in these people. I wish them and Nellie all the best!

I think it’s great that victoria can clearly guide owners to how to best provide for their dogs, because most of the time they don’t know what they’re doing wrong because they just try to make their dog live the best life. What a sweet dog and wonderful owners! My first childhood dog was a fearful rescue, took about a year to get her confident and happy, but it was so worth it. She went from terrified of men, flinching if anyone moved too fast, and rolling over to pee herself on meeting people/dogs to an absolute attention loving daddy's girl. She was also a hound mix, funnily enough. Scared dogs like this are so, so worth it. They just need time, patience, and gentle understanding

That dog is so sweet. She already had TLC, but she just needed a bit of structure to help her on her way. Doggies are like children in that way; they want love but also direction. They also want the chance to explore their world. Great teaching by Victoria as always.

I’m guessing it’s because they know she’s a hunting dog but didn’t know it’s ok for her to sniff on leash instead of Nelly having to walk alongside them (like most dogs are supposed to be trained to do). I originally wondered the same thing too. The mom also ends up saying that when they RARELY let her off leash. So I’m guessing they learned quick she won’t come back.

We had a Norwegian elkhound puppy my Mom bought from her second owner who for about a month would flatten in terror anytime we went to pet her, but perk up her ears when we did so. We figured out she had been abused before we got her. The previous owner even bragged over the phone that she could "hold her own fighting fir her food" when we questioned why she was guarding the food. Eventually she became attention seeking pooch who would sit on Dad's feet when he got home and REFUSE to move until he pet her.

This is the so far most useful episode for me. The nervous dog that doesn't want to be touched and doesn't come back. The total loss of brain function when getting scared and then the running home with control only regained once we reach the garden. The nose on the ground for the entire walk. The licking (of carpet in our case). Things have gotten better over the years but on bad days the carpet still gets a licking. And the only times I let her off the leash is in fenced in areas. Pretty much all our walks are her decision when it comes to direction, speed and length. Only when she gets uncertain I take over. And I've accepted that she doesn't enjoy cuddling. It also only happens on her terms. But generally the improvements are visible. It just took a lot of time and patience. And stepping back a bit to give her space on bad days. It took us 9 months for her to sleep in the bedroom. It took 2 years (and 2 dog trainers) for her to walk on shiny floors (she was afraid of slipping and falling). And it also took a few months to get her to like car rides. That one was basically figuring out that she hated being lifted and once I build her a ramp to get into the car by herself, the rides turned to fun.

I’m confused. I live in the US and so many of these episodes from the UK show owners taking their dogs off leash when their dogs aren’t well trained to come back. Is it normal in the UK for people to take their dogs for a walk that includes time off leash? I know people will do that in the US too but around my house at least, there’s not really an open field for a dog to just take off like these UK dogs tend to do

I have a fearful 5yo Chihuahua who only ever feels secure with me, with my oldest son, and with his Chihuahua buddy. He will NOT go out without him, and they're both terrified of the leash 🤦‍♀️ Like, they'll just sit there and cower. It's so difficult with them sometimes, and I have to secure them every time anyone comes over because they behave very defensively. I really don't know what to do with them because they're not motivated with play, toys, or even treats. It's very discouraging because he's such a loveable dog. When he's not acting terrified of his own shadow. And yes, I mean literally. He has genuinely been startled by his shadow 😮
