My 2016 f 750 had over heating problem. Ended up being a bad wire in a harness. 2 dealerships couldn’t figure it out. Thankfully a local mechanic at a mom and pop was able to trace it down. I gave him a big tip

I had this happen on my old 6.0 f450 service truck, I got so frustrated with it i ended up getting a new 6.7 truck. turns out the fan clutch wires came in contact with the blades and were all chewed up. sound like you have checked your wiring, but its probably worth it to really give it another good once over

I see comments saying get something besides the number one selling and hauling truck in America. Fact is regardless of what brand you get they all have their problems, Cummins is a hell of an engine to bad the rest of the truck isn't as durable, transmissions front end problems and every brand has electrical issues. Factory the duramax can't compete with the power stroke on torque or dependability. Had a 2006 duramax that was plagued with injector, fuel and electrical problems. You take any truck load it at thirty thousand pounds and haul through the pothole laden roads that he frequents anything will have an issue at some point. 6.7 and the F450 is a towing beast throughout all types of conditions and surfaces.

It's not a fix, but if you are going that slow up a hill, pop your hood and tie is down so it can't blow back. Lets some of that heat out via convection.
@stacyreid50772 жыл бұрын
I had a 1988 Chevy with the new style front end on it and it over heated all the time I finally lifted up the rear of the hood about 1/2 inch which helped but we never did solve the problem while towing

Good lord it can’t be that hard for a reputable shop to figure out. I know you’re in the middle of no where but someone who knows what they’re doing with a continuity test on the pos and Neg wires to the fan should be able to find it with a schematic etc. See advice on here of guys saying where the wires could be open. New scan tool active test can drive the fan to test as the negative to fan is pulsed from the ECM more than likely. Good luck.

Did you check terminal pin fit at the connector the fan plugs into? They sometimes chafe on the bracket the wiring runs behind too

U can get an all aluminum radiator/electric fan/relay kit for $300 from Amazon or similar. Do it yourself or bring the kit to a mechanic and pay labor only. You can permanently rip out the OEM clutch fan and shroud, AND that half plastic crappy radiator. Convert to electric permanently. You already have two batteries on board to compensate for high draw. Now u have better mpg, better temps, more room under the hood, cooler AC, and if one fan breaks you have a second one! It's a matter of time with all the truck abuse that you crack the oe radiator anyway or overheat it to cracking

Unhook the fan. Put 12v to the fan. If the fan works perfectly. Then you problems are before the fan. If your fan acts up. Then it's your fan. If the fan works perfectly. Put an togo switch on the fan until you find the problem. Although if fuse doesn't blow. Means there is no problems between the fuse and fan. That would leave the problem before the fuse.

Did you change the fan relays

Excellent video as always! Check the continuity of your fan plug on your engine harness to make sure it’s getting proper voltage. Also, is there a separate relay that controls it or is it all BCM?

You should take it to a dealer before the engine shits the bed

Maybe he could tow less weight?? I guess I should watch the full video first. It could be a gremlin-mobile, but life's too short for there NOT to be shit sometimes. Okay, let's see...*I'm guessing 20,000 pounds which is still a lot once you hit the hills.

Start by checking power at all the pins in the connector should be able to tell what wires are chaffed or shorted if they dont have power at the plug

Checked your batteries, one bad one can cause stupid issues or a bad ground wire may be causing it too. There a relay somewhere for it not working proper?

Reach out to ARod on his KZfaq channel Powerstroke tech talk with ARod he could probably get you on the right track,or even go see him I,believe he's in the Detroit area at Bill Brown Ford and also does occasional work at home. Just a thought. And he and 3 others do a live cast on Wednesdays and take questions.
@5inchborespaceing2 жыл бұрын
Probably a fan clutch before you let the smoke out. Now you are going to half to put another new clutch on and manually engage it with the scanner to force it on. After that replace the radiator because the weight you haul with hills 100% radiator efficiency is crucial.

Need someone who can actually diagnose electrical issues. Look up the wire diagram. Start tracing. From watching Eric on South Main auto most issues can be found with visual inspection.
@jnk262 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't call it overheat. It's a critical warning before it overheats. Trans fluid max temp limit is 256⁰f. Lots safe gaurds before you break anything. The fools ignore the warnings. If you are that concerned about the fan. Remove it and add a pair of manually controlled electric fans, you have upfitter switches use one.
