In lieu of the Ariana Grande scandal, there is a debate brewing amount feminists as to whether or not it's anti-feminist to be mad at the "homewrecker". And of course, the word itself is misogynistic and problematic, according to feminists.

starting a romantic relationship knowing he’s married with children is so slimy, just as slimy as leaving your wife and children for a woman whose done this multiple times. both are home wreckers who couldn’t keep it in their pants

And before anyone jumps down my throat, saying if I was hurt or some Pitying crap like that... I have never been in any romantic relationships in my entire life so far. I once dated a guy in college who after several dates informed me that he not only had 2 children, but was still living with his wife. He originally told me he was single. I felt like a trash can, but he said "it's ok, we're getting divorced anyway". I told him to shove his "it's ok" where the sun doesn't shine. I told her about the whole situation and we're still friends today.

Women are just as bad. I've had two relationships where the woman wasn't single when she said that she was. One had a boyfriend, I told him after I found out. He left her and she ended up pregnant from another guy within two weeks of her boyfriend leaving her. The other woman was married, but I only found out after we broke up. We went through our entire relationship with her hiding the fact that she was married. Most of my relationships end with me getting cheated on. Loyalty is incredibly hard to find now. My marriage ended two months ago after my wife left me and our two kids to be with another guy. I'm done with relationships at this point, and I'm only 34

Homewrecker is not a gender specific term. A man who chases after a married woman is also a homewrecker and should be called out as such too. You can give sympathy to the other person if they were truly in the dark about the married person's relationship status and walked away as soon as they found out. However, if they knew before starting their pursuit or kept pursuing after finding out they should absolutely be labeled a homewrecker and be publicly shamed for it.

You guys are too young to know what a homewrecker is. The scenario is a young secretary or intern in an office where a married and devoted husband works, and she is specifically on the prowl for him. The homewecker has to be 10 to 25 years younger than the married couple (16 to 26 years old), and the man has to be older, faithful, innocent (very naive), in a long term marriage (usually in his late 30's or his 40's) with no eyes for other women. Any other scenario and the word homewrecker would be misapplied, and you should use tramp or floozy or hussy instead.

@@noskalborg723 You're not wrong I have to say. But banning cheating legally is an extreme. People cheat when they're not in love with their partner. It's natural (which is why so many people do it, probably since Day 1 that the human race appeared on this Earth, that's millions of years). When you don't truly love someone you know the relationship is gonna end so you sleep around when you have the opportunity. It's what people do. Banning it won't stop it, you'll just put people in jail that do the same thing that those people who banned it do.

Yes. The reason that homewrecker tends to be a feminine-focused term is because women are supposed to be keepers of the hearth and home, and the act of knowingly engaging in this act brakes what is meant to be a universal and shared bond within our sex. It's on the level of why being an oath breaker is generally such a grave form of character assassination in fiction. It's underlying, archetypical, and soul deep. And there is something foundationally and fundamentally broken about any women who would engage in it--which is supposed to lead to mass ostracization in a normal societal structure.

“To lay your hands on a married man is ‘bout as low as a girl can get” When I found out a guy that was asking me on dates was actually married and “polyamorous”, I felt so disgusted and immediately lost all attraction to him. If you have zero qualms with a man using you to cheat (with or without “permission”), you got some personal things you need to work on. It’s giving “I’m going to make all these married women, just as bitter, unhappy, and single as me. If I can’t keep a man, neither can you.”

Thirdly, you have no idea whether the person you responded to is an incel and they did not suggesting they thought they were superior to anyone. Fourthly, the person you were responding to has the right to voice their opinion about any social issue they choose; these things affect everyone. Women being treated as if they are always right ESPECIALLY affects men, actually. Fifthly, the person you are responding to is correct. And I say that as a woman.

I've known several women like Ariana.... breaking up a relationship is SPORT for them. They go out of their way to seduce "taken" men... The looks, the whispered innuendos, the touching... Until the guy finally gives in. Then she gets in bed with him and her seduction ends. She moves on to the next... There are women out there who live to break up families. Yes, it IS his fault too, for giving in. But he's just a pawn in her whole game. There are women who THRIVE on the destruction.

So if a woman tells a man “I have a boyfriend.” He’s supposed to back off and leave her alone but if a man says he has a girlfriend or is married that’s no problem for women? Do these people not see the double standard here?

I remember an old boyfriend who introduced me to a girl he’d met while on holiday and I was always a bit suspicious because he kept fondly mentioning the fun things they’d done, and maybe it was innocent but not long after we broke up, the two of them got together. Needless to say, it made me pretty angry. But when I left home and went to uni, I met a lovely guy who I got on with really well and after a while he began to really intentionally pursue a relationship with me. I had some reservations which I shared so we didn’t start “dating” but spent a lot of time together and built a significant emotional attachment. When we were apart for the holidays though, he pretty much completely ignored me. Anyway, this pattern continued for a while and it didn’t work out but we were still part of the same friendship group. A while later someone mentioned in passing his now ex-girlfriend who I’d never heard of. It turns out the whole time he’d been pursuing me, he had a girlfriend back home and he’d never told me AND they had broken up recently because he wouldn’t stop talking to her about me. I just felt disgusting. How could he make me into the other woman?! The poor girl back home must have been devastated and hated me and I never knew! It’s an awful thing to do or have done to you. I don’t know how women can ever enter into that intentionally! And it must be so much worse for married couples with kids!

of course the word home wrecker is bad because the people called home wreckers are themselves bad. Dating someone in a comited relationship and tearing apart that bond is an evil and selfish thing to do and has a fitting name to match the shame that person should feel. The label should never be a good thing because breaking apart a home and possibly a family is never a good thing.

If a woman pursues a man whom she knows is married she is just as at fault and is a home wrecker. There are cases where she may not know, but honestly as soon as she finds out, if she continues with the relationship, she is just as at fault and is a home wrecker. The only time I can see calling her a home wrecker and being wrong is if she had no knowledge and ended it when she found out and they aren't blaming the guy.

My question is this: why would you want to be with someone who would leave their spouse and child for you? What’s stopping them from leaving you when something “better” comes along? When you marry someone, isn’t it part of your vows that you forsake all others? Given Ariana’s track record, she and Ethan will be history within a couple of months, so he destroyed his marriage and his chance at a relationship with his child for nothing.

A person that does overlapping relationships is not only morally weak but has a problem with being alone, and or afraid of the perception that being alone may give to others. It takes a very self-absorbed and fake person. I change who needs the attention and obviously the type of person that when they look in the mirror, they never reflect upon themselves. An adult should be able to look at themselves in the mirror, think back upon their actions in life and be happy with themselves. Your money, fame, looks, things can all be taken away. Education, morals, friends, and family that is what matters.

Hey Brett, I have a suggestion for you: Instead of giving attention to these vocal minorities who are up to no good, I think it would be better to give attention to the good things in life and how things should be. There is too much negativity on the internet already, and I would much rather have a positive role model such as yourself promoting positive things and people instead of giving clout to these hateful small-minded people. Sure, positive stuff doesn't gain as much traction as negative stuff, maybe people love seeing other people go wild and werewolf more than seeing them smile and be happy, but I really liked, for example, that "Hollywood promoting marriage" video; telling the people that marriage and having kids can be good things.

People who write this are single, lonely, and never see themselves bearing children and living in a home. The American dream is dead to them or they lack any will to fight for it. A broken home is responsible for many troubled children that grow up and become troubled adults in society. Doesn't matter what year we're in, it's a "broken home" when mom and dad don't work out their differences and take care of one another to help care for the family. A family can be broken up and still work, but not when it's broken up by betrayal and lies. The mom who lost her husband is going to cry herself in heartache for years to come, not days, not months, years. She has to cry when the baby she just gave birth to goes to sleep, and do it silently. She has to take small cry breaks to process what happened, because she cannot just bawl it out and process and recover from the emotion. She's got to break it over the years because she has to be functional and strong and it will eat at her and take away her life. I only know this because someone I dated had that life style. She told me her mom would still cry in pain that made her wince in pain as she heard her mom breaking down over the thought of a loved one betraying her. It effected the woman I was dating as she never saw a purpose in getting married. She never saw a purpose in having children, because she only saw herself raising them, because she only felt she was going to be stuck with them, because she never believed in marriage. This is what betrayal and broken homes cause, and the writer here doesn't understand it. Either they are living in it and deny it or they haven't experienced it.
