Hi, First of all I'd like to thank you for all your videos-I am creating my smart HUE home and all your comments and advices were very helpful. Yesterday I bought a motion sensor and a hue plug-and I've got a problem with setting them. Maybe you could help me... I'd like to turn on the plug (which turns on a standard lamp) automatically when the motion sensor detects any motion. but unfortunately I don't know how to set the devices in my app. So far I added both to the same room, separately they work perfect, but when the motion is detected the plug doesn't turn on. If you could give me adivice how to do that I will be very grateful.

So I havent touched PIR sensors for many years, but the one thing that did not work, was placing the sensor and walking directly to it. It senses in lines from the sensor and out, and to trigger them, you want to cross them. You could actually cheat the sensors back then by approaching directly. Are you sure that the placement of them should be so that you walk towards them? Maybe they work in a different way, though infrared is infrared.

The setup “should” be simple. We have a fairly effective smart home setup, but chose to stick with Hue for lighting, ring for doorbells, and echo for voice control. No issues so far….until we installed a motion sensor at the bottom of our large stairwell, and one at the top. For some strange reason 4 of the 6 lights are activated, but the other two will not activate. All 6 lights are in the hue bridge, and respond accordingly, but not by the motion sensor. We have reset the sensors, the lights, and deleted the room and reset. Im at a loss on this one

Question: I have 4 Phillip Hues lightstrips in my bedroom controlled by the Phillip Hue Motion Sensor. During the daytime I want it white bright but and night time, if movement, I want it as a blue night light. It keeps coming up Bright and wakes us up. Can you switch scenes? What am I doing wrong? Thank you.
@QasimZafar
@QasimZafar Жыл бұрын
@Diane Peacock - Yes you can definitely do that. Make a theme for the blue night light and under the sensor automation select the two different scenes for the two different time frames. That way it’ll set the lights accordingly between the selected time frames.

I’m just looking into this tech so this may sound ignorant, but is there a way to set the motion controls to dim the lights up or down relative to someone’s proximity to a sensor? I managed apartments a few years ago, and did an inspection to one tenant’s unit that would fade up the lights up from 0% the closer you walked down the hall to the living room (but they didn’t fade up completely after triggering a set point… slowly inching closer to the room also directly influenced extremely small, incremental percentage increases to the brightness), and then fade back down the same way as you walked away. Standing in the living room would override that setting since the other staff member I was with tried walking back towards the front door and the lights wouldn’t react to him as long as I was in the unit. It’s been driving me bonkers for years trying to figure out how the guy set that up, google hasn’t been any help, and I’d love to do the same thing to my home instead of having the lights just do a timed fade up to a pre-programmed setting.

@D - I know exactly what you mean but I don’t have any idea how that could be done with the hue sensor and lights. I’ve even seen it in some parking garages they have sets of lights come on with motion which is something that could be done but no idea on how to adjust their brightness.

Yo great video. I have a question regarding the sensor and on/off function. Here's my thought I want a night light for my kid who is in a bunk bed to be able to move lights come on and then she can get down the steps safely . Can you turn off the sensor if I went in to check her so it doesn't come one. And if it comes on does it have a set light brightness percentage so you can have it dim everytime it see movement to not wake her up . Long question but I'd thought I'd ask . Thanks
@QasimZafar
@QasimZafar 2 жыл бұрын
@lloydie86 - Yes you could totally set it up so that it turns on at a set brightness however when you do go in the room that will trigger the sensor to turn on the lights. When setting up you get a choice for lightning so you could have them come on really dim so that even if you walk in it doesn’t wake her up. Hope this helps and thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

@vicko valdano - Hey if you have scheduled times where you are going to be away and don’t want the sensor to do anything while you’re not home just go into the settings and then tap into your sensor, here you’ll see you can set a day and night behavior, so you’ll be able to go in and chose two sets of schedules for the sensor. One schedule you can set it to do nothing for the times you will not be home. Another simple thing you can do is under settings and then accessories you can simply turn off the sensor when you don’t need it. It has a light sensor too, right. Is it just for shows or what? No review ever mentions it? I mean, in the winter months, it gets dark at like 4pm. In the summer months, like 10-11pm. And I'm not looking to have to change the "night" times every month or so. Isn't the light sensor supposed to work alongside the motion detector, and just turn on the lights when the ambient light gets low? I didn't see anything about ambient light levels, when you showed the settings screen?
@QasimZafar
@QasimZafar 2 жыл бұрын
@Tegnet - Yes it has a light sensor as well and there are settings for it and how much light you want it to react to. You will still need to specify times and when you want it to do what. If you want it to run all day just based on light just specify the timing so it’s 24 hours and you’ll be just fine. Hope this helps and thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

I have this sensor as well, if in the garage it will go to a very dim light at the end of the off time set, after a short while it switches the light off totally. If you walk back at that moment the switch will NOT go on, you have to leave, wait for a minute or so, then walk back and then the switch works, it just looks like there is a period after switching to off it does not function, this is incredibly annoying if you need light.
@QasimZafar
@QasimZafar 3 жыл бұрын
@A Eer - Hey so the light dimming before going off is just a signal that it’s about to turn off, but any movement should turn it back on even if it turns off completely. In my garage if I’m at the other end the motion sensor will lose track and dim the lights and then I have to move to get it back on. Can I ask what your daylight sensitivity setting is for the sensor in the garage? You can check this through the app by going to settings, then accessory setup, then select the sensor and scroll all the way down and select daylight sensitivity. Let me know as adjusting this will solve your issue 😊.

With Hue products, do you need the philips wall switch? What is it for?
@QasimZafar
@QasimZafar 2 жыл бұрын
@David David - Hi you don’t need to have the wall switch. That’s basically an extra accessory that comes in starter kits. Hello... I'm still making some additions to my apartment (making it a smart apartment) I have 2 hue motion sensors and a bridge of course but I don't have Hue smart bulbs. I placed my smart light bulbs in my bathroom they aren't hue. Instead they are the sengled brand. I want to be able to go in my bathroom hands-free (motion sense) lights. Do I need to buy Hue motion indoor light bulbs? or keep what I have? I have to continuously update my alexa routines to make sure my lights come on and for the duration that I want. Any suggestions?
@QasimZafar
@QasimZafar 2 жыл бұрын
@Ashley Maingi - Hi Ashley so your best bet to have a hassle free setup is to grab yourself some hue bulbs because then the motion sensor will be able to trigger your lights every time. You’ll need to setup everything once and then you’ll be good to go 😊. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask! Thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

@DeGame Geek - The only thing I can think of is to check under automations in the hue aap to see if you might have accidentally set a schedule or something. like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzfaq.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

What if I have 3 of my hue bulbs come on white via hue motion sensor throughout the day. And let's say I change my 3 bulbs to blue or green for a party or something. How can I temporarily stop the motion sensor from turning white during a scene I want to keep. I keep getting a message saying for sensor snooze it will overwrite my current formula for my motion sensor but I don't want it to do that completely. Temporarily yes but not forever... I hope I'm making sense. Please help.
@QasimZafar
@QasimZafar 3 жыл бұрын
@07freshkid70 - Hi so you can only have one formula with the sensor at a time but with the sensor snooze formula the specific time you don’t want the lights to change you can just set that. For example one option in sensor snooze has two time slots so day and night...so you can chose the starting time of both and chose what you want it to do. So whenever you don’t want it to change your lights you’ll just set that as one of the time slots. The other option is three time slots and it works the same way. So set the time slot when you don’t want anything changed and for the other time slots just have it set to “bright” when motion is detected. Hope this makes sense..kind of hard to explain 😂.

@That Norwegian Biker - You’re welcome ☺️. You can most certainly achieve the hallway auto lighting with the sensor. When you program it you can have it behave certain ways at certain times so that way during the day it’ll trigger the lights on but won’t turn them off and at night it can. You also shouldn’t have any problem mounting it to the ceiling. Hope this helps and thanks for watching I really appreciate it 🙏🏽😊.

@QasimZafar

@Ming Nguyen Dang - Once you’ve added your sensor, go to settings>accessories>choose the sensor and now inside here specify daytime hours and an action you’d like so here specify the lights to turn on. Underneath you’ll see “After” that’s where you can specify how many minutes before it performs the action and here you need to select the lights to turn off. Repeat this for the night time hours and you’ll be all set. Now when motion is detected the lights will come on and after the specified amount of minutes and no motion, they’ll turn off. When the Hue Sensor stops working and blinks red upon setup its a sign to change batteries. Do not trust that you have fresh ones in the box.
