Holy shit, that first clip. That's how you break landing gear and whole airframes. If the plane doesn't wanna stay on the ground the worst thing a pilot can do is try to force it down. Too much lift, probably too much speed or not on-speed for the strength of headwind.

You can see him overfly the touchdown zone (1000 foot markers) then still hasn't made contact with the ground for about another 1500 feet or more. He really tried to force that plane down.

That third try was ROUGH. I’ve seen a couple saves on a second try (ill advised though it may be) on long runways. But holy crap that last bounce was wild.

That’s a good shot of cabin depress. Not a lot of people have seen that and would mistake it for smoke and freak out. Just calmly put on the mask that should have dropped at some point. Or, if there’s a sizable hole in the pressure vessel, that condensation won’t stick around and you probably have bigger problems.

@@glitch8773 thanks...as a CFI doing check outs, purely an evaluation of pilots who wanted to rent.....I've had a few would-be renters drive a nose gear into the runway :).

@@MarcPagan Yeah, this is an ATR. You can tell the difference by looking at the main gear. Dash 8s have the mains gears held in the engine, ATRs in the fuselage.

Well ATR'S have the wheels under the fuselage. While Q-800's have the wheels on the wings....under the wings

The pilot flying that aircraft with the multiple bounces was actually interested in joining the circus as a pogo jumper but his mom forcefully made him join an airline.....hence this result.

Whats the point of the klm wheel in the air? To slow the aircraft faster ? Just use the brakes as designed like everyone else What if he had a blow out at the rear left and needed to stere the aircraft to keep it on the runway

Aerodynamic braking is using the drag of the airplane in a nose high attitude to slow it down. It also allows you to use the brakes more effectively because the entire weight of the airplane is only on the main wheels, not shared with the nosewheel. Brakes and drag are not an either/or. Both can be used at the same time Airplanes are easier to steer without the nose wheel on the ground also. Imagine driving a tricycle at 150mph by using not just the wheel steering but also a huge rudder out back in the wind. Its easier with only the rudder

@@karaayers2867no, it doesn’t allow you to use brakes. The moment you hit the brakes, the nose will slam down and it will do it hard. If you keep the nose up, you can’t use the brakes.

Where do you get this bullshit from @lucaas ....it was nothing to do with aerodynamic braking, its the pilot flying trying to put the nosewheel on the ground smoothly and isn't actually very good practice.

Yes, if he was so concerned with slowing he would have open the reversers. I think people who fly fighters in video games assume transport aircraft use the same techniques.

There is no such thing like Aerodynamic braking when ur wheels touched down on runway- what i saw is an unsafe demo and has no use; aircrafts designed to brake correctly with brakes when wheels on the ground

planes dont have brakes on nose gear... With wheelie you have to pull elevator which make a lot of drag. You can also see, that they didnt use reversers

the buggati veyron has a rear spoiler that doubles as a air brake if aerodynamic breaking doesnt exist with wheels on the ground how is it possible the rear spoiler can create 1G of braking force? on the bugatti?

Pilots are literally taught how to do this, especially on soft airstrips. At big airports with long runways, stopping long is what we do to avoid taxiing slowly for long distances.
