I agree with Anne! I hate leaving behind a little bit of an ingredient, especially where it won't make much difference to the recipe, like celery, onions, mushroom, or tomato paste. I am making these sloppy joe's tonight, and will be adding crushed frozen kale (crushed into tiny tiny pieces!) I will serve them on whole wheat sour dough bread (or buns). Sour dough bread almost never has oil or sugar in it, and I can usually find a locally made bread that has no preservatives either.

Finally I learned I could freeze tomato paste. That keeps it fresher and you can pop a frozen tablespoon right into your next dish. Thanks for all your inspiration! Badass Banana Bread is a weekly staple in our family.

I have been following Dr. Esselstyn since he came out with the China Study in conjunction with Dr. Campbell. I've also followed a plant based diet since 1996. I love his work and I love all of your recipes culminating from his guidelines, but I love the relationship that you two have on your channel. I look forward to your offerings. Thank you.

Lentils cook so fast (for a dried bean) that pressure cooking (instant pot) isn't necessary. I've destroyed them in there each time so far. Thanks for the recipe. Yes Ann, I too will use the "rest of the stuff" always so long as it's not so much as to ruin the recipe. Precision cooking is not my style, keeps variety afoot.

I love tomatoes - put the full jar in! We don't have Sloppy Joe's here in Great Britain - until now! I use the Sloppy Joe mix for my Bolognaise, Lasagna, Moussaka & change the amounts & I can make Keema. One thing I add which gives texture & goodnes is Pearl Barley (contains gluten) - my mother uses Pearl Barley in her Scottish Soup - I love Barley my friends call me a weirdo! (Who loves Barley they ask?)

Chili powder here in the UK is just pure ground chili with nothing added. Until I learned that I could not understand why recipes I was following from the US that used chili powder were coming out wrong.
@MTknitter22
@MTknitter22 3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. Thing is, if you get a GOOD brand of chili powder over here, its not a problem to get one that is pure without anti-caking ingredients or salt.
@purplepolly71
@purplepolly71 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree. The problem is that the US versions have other spices added, so it's hard to know what to substitute. At least I know not to put as much of our chili powder in as the recipe calls for - usually makes it far too spicy!

Oh my gosh, my husband and I love this recipe. We live in Tasmania so some of the seasoning we had to wing it as he is celiac and Bbq sauce here is wheat based. So I used his chutney and that eliminated the need for maple syrup as it is sweet enough. My husband was on the cusp of type 2 diabetes about 8 years ago so we cut out most processed food and got heavy with vegetables and some fruit. Exercise was a given. Brilliant work ladies, you are saving lives.💕
