Princess Leia Fixed using Deepfakes

Using deep fake software I've managed to enhance Hollywoods CGI version of Princess Leia in Rogue One.
The process took only 24 hours on an $800 PC and 500 images of Carrie Fisher in the original Star Wras movies. As you can see it's inevitable Hollywood will start to utilies this method of VFX, when and how is still the question.

The actual problem with the deepfake is that it's bringing along with it a serious problem from the original, which is the bad/unnatural animation. So you have Carrie Fisher's face following the hackjob that they did for the movie. Would be better if we somehow had the raw footage of the actress under the CGI to match the deepfake to - a real face making real face motions.
@gl3nnium
@gl3nnium 3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. It's an amazing thing that free software can now produce better results in 24 hours on a mid price pc than these guys did with a whole team, state of the art computing power and millions of dollars at their disposal. When Rogue One came out, Leia and Tarkin were the only negative things for me. I remember thinking at the time "hell couldn't they have just swallowed their pride and got Weta digital to do it - of course now in 2020 even i could do better with deepface lab (as long as there is raw live action original footage to work with not this jerky unnatural CGI mess)

@wolfieinu
@wolfieinu 3 жыл бұрын
@@hellcatdave1 No, the animation is weird. As long as Tarkin's face remains still, he seems real. The moment he begins to animate, he looks strange. Somehow his face is "too alive," over-animated. Same with Leia in this clip. There's like a dozen minor movements and twitches going on, both of the major CGI characters look like they've had a stroke. A real human being doesn't do all that much with their facial muscles. The CGI character are constantly and noticeably adjusting their mouths and such unnecessarily. They remind me of animatronics.

You do know Deepfakes wasn't a thing in 2015-16 right? I'm sure they'll fix up both Leia and Tarkin if they decide to do "special edition" kind rereleases of those

It's in the animation! I can see it now, her mouth was animated poorly, like they went through all this trouble to recreate her face but not her performance. This looks amazing! Also love how the color and contrast look more like A New Hope!

Great improvement. I could tell in the original it wasn’t quite right. You nailed the real shape of the actors real shape of her original mouth. The teeth and lips are spot on, whereas the original doesn’t match her the real shape of her mouth.

Not possible. This looks good because the CG is her face that they are using to do the deepfake. The source video of the CG or an actor makes a huge difference in the results so this looks good because it was easy. There is not much effort involved here. This would have been far harder if the persons face to start was not already Carrie Fisher's face.

Her expression always bothered me here. She shouldn't be smiling at all. Yeah, I know; "Hope hope hope hope HOPE!" 😝 But they are also trying to escape torture and/or death if the Empire catches them ( which is exactly what happened). But that's the entire point. Saying "Hope" would bring a smile to anyone's face because with HOPE, they'll be able to defeat the evil empire and ultimately win the day. Hope is a strong thing in the SW universe, so it made Leia feel very proud to say that, despite the dire situation they were in. Knowing that you'll win the war by having a positive mindset like "Hope" is all part of why she even smiled there, it makes perfect sense! Plus, it'd be just plain weird to have her not smile when she said that at the end. Never bothered me.
