Project Iona Part 9: 1997 Mercedes S500 W140 Voltage Regulator and Alternator Repair

When an original Bosch 143 Amp alternator goes bad after 228,000 miles Project Iona starts acting up on my daily commute. After diagnosing a bad alternator and trying replacement DIY parts, we have the original restored to factory new.
Many thanks to local repair experts at Hutcherson Auto Electric in Tampa, FL for restoring Iona's alternator to new. 50 years of locally owned experience and customer service was what I received while dropping it off and picking it up two days later.

I’ll add it to the to do list for Iona. She’s started to have more bounce than usual in the front so….maybe after I finish the interior, seats, and door cards I’ve been working on here lately. that's one pretty alternator! did it have oil spillage on it?

Of course! Snugged between the block and oil pan, oil filter housing, and a quarter million miles the alternator looked exactly like the voltage regulator....except dirtier, if that's possible.
