My boyfriend (32M) recently moved into my (27F) apartment. We have been dating for a while (a little more than a year) and decided that it was time to make things serious. I have a daughter (6F) who also lives with me and visits with her father every other weekend.
I work in a quite demanding job and my daughter used to either stay with my parents or be at a daycare while I worked. However, with the current state of the world, my boyfriend has been able to keep an eye on her mostly. I'm still in the house, but he's been doing stuff when I'm not able to like checking what she's doing for school and making her lunch. She's also taken an interest in music and my boyfriend used to be in a band his teenage years and she's fascinated by that and they spend a lot of time playing the guitar together. So they've gotten pretty close and they are quite fond of each other.
Story 1:
AITA for hanging a photo of my family (including boyfriend) in my apartment
Story 2:
AITA For losing it after I found out what my husband did when our son was born?
Story 3:
AITA for telling my ex he was very inconsiderate of our daughters when he found out the gender of his new child with his wife?
Story 4:
AITA for leaving my husband who joined my mother and siblings in humiliating me?

Gonna have to disagree with the last story’s commenters, I’ve been accused of pouring paint all over my neighbors car, and everyone said I did it even those who didn’t see me do it, until the oldest daughter of the neighbors came outside and casually admitted to spilling the paint. Never even got an apology from the neighbors or my parents. No one believed me when i cried and begged and I was already punished before she admitted it.

Story 3. You need to change the custody arrangements and get the girls into therapy. Petition the court for child support and extra money to be put into a court supervised college fund for the girls. You know from his attitude that he won't contribute to something like that for them unless ordered to by the court. Do everything to support your girls, I think they already realise that Dad does not like girls.

I'm named after my paternal grandma who died at 42. My personality is way different from hers and I hate it when family treat me like I'm her reincarnation. Anyway my dad and mum had an agreement that if I was a girl, he would name me after my grandma and if I were a boy my mum could use any name she liked. Also my dad has been a hydricondriac since grandma died saying he would die at 42 like her. He's nearly 66 and projected that shitty mentality on me. I'm 42 next month. I am not my grandma!

To the family that pressured OP's Husband to name their newborn after his late brother. When you're the one who pressured and peer pressured your own son to have your way in the naming rights, you don't now get to call OP petty for being upset that the name agreed upon 2 months prior was changed. They don't get to play moral high ground when they've proven they're the bullies here. OP's husband should also grow a better spine as he's just as at fault and he knew why OP didn't want the name as the first name and preferred it as the middle.

Honestly with story 1: I can see why OP's ex reacted that way. My parents divorced while my sister and I were in elementary (5th grade). Our mom started dating and our dad didn't like it because our mom's boyfriend at the time was kind of taking on the part of acting like a dad. Their relationship ultimately ended when he didn't see himself getting married and yelling at our mom after going to Hawaii for their anniversary. Note that our dad didn't mind the dating so much as our mom's ex boyfriend acting like a dad towards us.

Story 2: time to get a lot of paperwork - one to change the baby’s name and one to get a divorce.
3 жыл бұрын
Story 2: NTA, My wife and I agreed upon a name for our daughter (based on a name we both liked from a character from a TV show we watched together) and the name honoring my grand mother as a middle name, my wife was totally okay with it because we discussed names and both came to an agreement on it. Screw that man, divorce his ass, he is a selfish prick and does not care about what the wife wants.

Family is trying to replace their dead child with OP’s. Husband went completely off book and just expected her to cave. That kid will constantly be hammered with “namesake loved this sport so you should too. Namesake was really good at this hobby and you should do it. You have to live up to your dead uncle’s shiny mythology!!!!!! We named you his name!!!!” I have a generational name (was my great grandma and then my aunt’s) but it’s my middle name. Not once was I ever pressured to be like them. My own child now has the same middle name. So she’s named after her mom, great aunt and great-great grandma. Husband and I both agreed to this. It’s her middle name as well. We and only we decided kiddos names. Literally nobody got a say but us and nobody even knew the names until kids arrival. It’s baffling how many people think they get a say in naming a child they had no part in creating.

When deciding on a baby name, it's common to have veto privilege. Different couples might have different numbers of vetoes, but it's not uncommon to have at least one. What is _not_ common is railroading the other partner into accepting one name that they don't like. You don't get to do that. *Especially* if you've already decided on a different name. Going behind her back to force that name through was duplicitous and slimy. Hopefully OP has some written record or text conversation that shows he agreed on a different name and can get the court to change it. If that fails and she can't pull hubby out of the FOG, the marriage might be doomed. Either she assumes the doormat position and plays along, or fights tooth and nail to teach the baby his real name, fights in-laws every time they use the wrong one, and polishes hubby's spine. Maybe if she makes it clear to hubby exactly how thin the ice he's on is, he might make a bit of an effort not to be such a pushover... But I've heard plenty of stories that don't work out very well.

Story 2: Honestly? instant dealbreaker in my opinion, complete disregard for what OP wants and he also shows that he'll never have her back in case he gets some pressure from his family. I'd casually ask him what he thinks of divorce, just sprinkle it into the next discussion that'll surely come. Story 3: That's horrible, I don't even know what to say to that. For now I'd keep tabs on the situation and ask the girls if they noticed something or if their father behaved differently towards them and if there are any more signs of him mistreating them in any way I'd revise the custody agreement or whatever else is possible in such a situation. Depending on the relationship with the new wife maybe talking with her would help. I doubt it but you never know.

The last one. The mother was aware that there was mold inside the house which is a serious health risk not many people show symptoms right away but I hope he was possibly showing symptoms which is probably why it was affecting her first. If it’s an old wardrobe nine out of 10 there is moisture behind the wood or inside of the wood itself causing the mold. It’s not hard to fathom that OP hope he will be wearing a mask obviously to get the mold out it’s not hard to get mold out by using bleach. The wardrobe could be easily repaired. Second story OP is NTA. Her husband and his family planned for this to happen this way. After they learned of the name OP had agreed to, they coached him as to how to get the name they wanted, that's why he pretended to agree to the name. The timing was well thought out for him to offer/volunteer to complete the paperwork when OP was in the first recovery stage after giving birth, when she would most mentally vulnerable and agreeable to his suggestion without questioning his motives. He wasn't even man enough to tell OP what he had done. At least the person who had the name before is not living. A child having the same first and last name of another relative, especially fathers, are a target for identity theft.

The third story your ex-husband isn't the first or the last man to have that type of thinking. My advice to you either tell him straight up either you apologize to your girls for what you said at the gender reveal or be prepared to sign over your rights or give me full custody. That's all you got to say and admit that you would rather have sons more than daughters. The one thing that this dude will not get is that he never wanted girls to begin with and yet he has two boys that he's going to spoil. It's better for you for him to let you have them full-time and they can see them when they're ready or just be prepared for your daughters to have Daddy Issues later on down the road

This wasn't some spur-of-the-moment action, this was premeditated and he was banking on her just letting it go, but this isn't the kind of thing you can let go of. It's set a precedent that there's no going back from, opened the door to the question of if this was even really the first time he's lied to her face and as she said, has changed her view of him as a person. It's not that she gets to pick thr name outright, it's that they both agree on a name and to trick her and deceive her at such a crucial stage in their relationship to please his family and completely disregard her wishes is pathetic and disgusting and I'd divorce and change the name but I'd make sure to deceive him in a major way first too!

Come to find out when we started moving out there was literally black mold from a water leak in the corner of our bedroom where we kept a tall, skinny shelf next to my side of the bed. Worst $520 a month ever spent. The floor was never wet but the way the building was built I think it just kept dripping inside of the wall

Title story: NTA. They're broken up. OP doesn't owe her ex squat, beyond mutual child care. Daughter already has pictures of dad in her bedroom, and she's not being neglected. Ex can get over himself and be more diplomatic, or he can STFU since he hasn't got a leg to stand on.

IMHO, the boyfriend was the one that mom cheated with and now that he moved in, the daughter is now becoming good pals with him. That is good for the daughter and not good for the dad. The more she likes BF, the less she is going to like dad because BF is always there and dad only has 4 days a month. That is what he was angry about. and his resentment boiled over. Mom should know this. People say that dad has to suck it up and be "glad" that kiddo is always gonna say how much fun BF is. My bias is that I have seen too many times that the kid stops wanting to go visit dad, just because they have too much fun at home and mom and BF will never say anything positive about dad.

Story #1: NTA. Imagine getting this upset over decorations in a house you don't live in. The ex is still the daughter's father, but that is all. The relationship between him and OP is over, and this kind of post-breakup jealousy is a waste of energy and only makes him look like he hasn't moved on. Story #2: NTA. He made a unilateral decision that wasn't his to make. If he can't even man up enough to tell his family that they don't get to decide _his_ son's name, then he's not ready to be a father. The brother is dead. He is not coming back and he won't be recreated in the newborn son, and his family needs to accept it and move on. Story #3: NTA. The fact that he said OP was "trying to ruin his happiness" says it all. It's all about _him_ and his feelings. He was caught admitting that he prefers a son to a daughter. He's showing preferential treatment the moment the new child is born, and the daughters have every right to be afraid that he doesn't care about them. Story #4: NTA. OP's mom won't clean out the fungus growing in the house, but gets mad that OP is? This is unsanitary, and OP's family are crazy for thinking she's wrong for trying to fix what they won't. This entire situation is without logic.

Okay with the first story I get the feeling that your ex either cheated on you or you cheated on him and your boyfriend is probably the new guy in the relationship and the fact that your daughter and him have gotten really close and you're hanging pictures in your apartment it's making your ex feel some type of way that he's losing his family 2 this complete stranger that he sees. Even though he's not a complete stranger to you and your daughter. My advice to you it's your apartment do what you want but have a serious conversation with your ex and maybe recommend you and your daughter go to counseling for this and maybe tell you exit he needs to go counseling as well or take it to the courts and go for full custody especially since his reaction make it even worse and it may turn physical at some point.

The last story about the room.. I feel sorry for op that her family didn’t care about her health from the start. But - she can’t just start “fixing” when it’s not her house and not before she ask if she is allowed to do it. That’s f*cked up. And the last thing about that it spreads into the hole house?? I didn’t know that! So after that information it’s more f*cked up and if her mother knew about that - I can understand even more why she’s freaking out. You can be angry with your children but this sounds something more like mentally abuse or what it calls. But wtf why do op pay rent but not her sister… so I don’t think that family is healthy anyhow. BUT- about the husband. W T F. I would totally left him there without remorse. I wouldn’t even talk to him. If he ask I would say something like “you seams to fit in. So lick the wall then you can sleep together with my mom in her bedroom. Goodbye.” I can see WHY her’s mother freaks out and I understand that op’s husband thought it was stupid of her and everything. BUT wtf. Her mother yelling, everyone yelling at her - why the f*ck do he treat her like shit too??? He doesn’t need to agree with he’s wife or support her actions like this - but what do it do for good to treat her like this, in these situation right there? Is he simping her mother? Why? It’s sounds like the mother didn’t want them there. So why is he being a simp? It would be better for him and his wife if he didn’t yelled at her. Just say “Ok..you did something really stupid here, and everyone is really angry and so am I. But I can also see that you are upset/sad so..What do WE do now?” But he didn’t. So he can stay there. It’s not my problem that he doesn’t have somewhere to go? 😂 you simp for mom - be with her. 🤷‍♀️ I would seriously ghosting them all 😂 just not answering or anything. Get divorced. Find someone els. Make a family and never look back. Even if you did wrong, you’re not mentally ill and need to hospitalized. You are not mad/crazy. But you did something really stupid. That’s it.

1st story: i am a bit in that ex's shoes. i moved on, he should do the same. his daughter have a nice step father and he should appreciate that. anyway, did he seen his daughter's room? maybe that will make him feel more comfortable? 2nd story: IL are jerks and husband is a jerk too and a spineless coward. even to the point of divorce. Now I remember when my daughter was born, the nurse asking her mother what will be the name of the child and me feeling so glad/fulfilled/both for hearing the full name. I thought we give her three names, her mother chosen the first, I chosen the middle two names. My father thought I am a little nuts for that but until now the fact that she have three names used her in school. I was/become a jerk not long time after and that lead to our divorce, gladly though we have a good relation in parenting matters. 3rd story: as I said, I have a daughter. We didn't made any attempts to find her gender, when her mother went to scan asked me if I wanna know and I said that I don't care. People who knew about her pregnancy thought we will have a boy because of some speculations (mothers carrying boys are less sicker than when carrying girls or whatever else), I said that she will be a girl in spite of them, just to have a different opinion, I guess. What if she was born a boy, would I have loved her/him more or less? Our relationship would have been different, but only because of her different life choices. Anyway, the verdict is: the father is a complete AH, the daughters are in a tough position and for their best interest, the mother should get full custody (and hopefully a boyfriend who isn't a complete jerk like their father), someone who may be for them a good role-model.

1st story, NTA. Your bf is becoming part of your and her family, you are allowed to have whatever pictures you want. However I do believe maybe getting a photo with you your ex and your daughter could be good for her to see that even tho you left her dad, she is still the main focus for both of you. And of course she talks about your bf a lot. She’s a child, he’s new and unknown to her. She’s curious and interested in him. It doesn’t mean he will replace him as her father. But it is also good that it sounds like your bf can be another positive male role model in her life and your ex should be happy about that

For story 2: I think they were both shitty in that situation, but the husband was effing terrible. The husband should not have blatantly lied when he intended to name the child after his brother. The worst part was him not even including the name they both picked out. Honestly, that is grounds for divorce in my opinion. Also, I think the wife should have accepted the child being named after the deceased brother. Not because of the family pressure, but because her reason for wanting a different name is silly in my opinion. If the case was different with her wanting the son to be named after her deceased father (hypothetical), I would be expecting the husband to respect that.

@@middaydraws3379 I don't completely disagree with you, I think it's a cultural difference for me. The first thing I find puzzling, is what is wrong with being compared to the dead uncle? In my culture, we believe in a sudo reincarnation (I say sudo, because it's more of traits being inherited). Also, it honors those that have passed away. Husband shouldn't have done the name behind her back. Horrendous. But he should have just kept arguing. Ultimately, not naming the son after his deceased brother would have "ruined" the situation for him, though. It's really not hard to empathise with him if you have experienced loss. Mostly, I see people naming sons after their dead exes. That's a no, but to not grant this name would be a festering mess. WTAF, though. The father who wanted a son. "Thank God", was toeing the line.
