Alyssa's progress has been absolutely incredible.
But, like everyone, she has had her own struggles.
And in this episode we discuss her personal struggles with scale fluctuations. And how to understand (and overcome) the times in which the scale spikes up for no apparent reason.
We also have an amazing dinner (with more than a few drinks) and discuss how to approach eating out at restaurants when you're in a fat loss phase.
00:00 - intro
00:24 - weight fluctuations
00:50 - text conversation
01:29 - weight chart
02:40 - being open about struggles
03:51 - how was nutrition during the spike?
06:51 - other non scale victories to focus on
07:30 - time to workout
08:00 - thoracic mobility
10:13 - tricep extensions
11:24 - how did she do today?
11:59 - eating in a restaurant
12:32 - proud of alyssa’s hard work
13:13 - what we had for dinner
13:56 - what should you eat when you go out to dinner?
14:31 - how to handle the scale moving up
16:05 - the struggle of getting back on track
17:38 - tonight is not the norm
19:06 - yoyo’ing
19:25 - closing

You and I are going to drink a lot of coffee together. Like, borderline dangerous amounts of coffee.
So, first things first. Pour yourself a mug and I’ll introduce myself real quick.
My name’s Jordan - but everyone calls me “J” - and I’m a 27th degree black belt in chugging coffee.
I’m also strength & nutrition coach, I hold several powerlifting world records, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have my writing featured in a variety of outlets like CNN, the Huffington Post, and Schwarzenegger.com.
But listen.
This channel isn’t for fame, publicity, cash, props, fist bumps, likes, pings, pows or whatever else there is.
It’s a place where you and I can chat.
I’ll never sugar coat, lie, or beat around the bush. I’ll tell you everything exactly as I see it. Some stuff you might like. Others you might not.
And that’s totally cool.
Either way, my goal here is to create a discussion. A place where you and I can get together, exchange ideas, and motivate each other to be better every day.
Like I said, we’re gonna drink a lot of coffee together - borderline dangerous amounts - but I’m excited. Because there aren’t too many online communities in which the sole purpose is to inspire and motivate one another.
And that’s exactly what you and I are going to do here.
To your success,
-J

I’ve been following you for years man and I feel that so many people get discouraged on their fitness journey because of the lack of education and knowledge. I love your channel because you take the time to educate us about weight fluctuations and help people develop a better mindset around nutrition and weight loss. If everyone were to see this perspective in this video I think it would ease a lot of people’s minds. I do want to see another series like this please! Although, I’m 80lbs down now I can definitely relate to Alyssa a lot during those beginning stages.

Thank you Jordan ❤ I’ve had you in my ear constantly for the past 2 years and have lost 100 pounds. You are so right it is important not to get lost in the minute details of fat loss and fitness but rather to communicate the basics clearly for everybody to understand. This series represents that perfectly. Keep it up!

I usually do not comment on videos, but this series is awesome! Alyssa has such a great personality and is very relatable. I have the same issues with perfection, dealing with fluctuations, etc. The interactions between the two of you is very encouraging and enlightening. Please continue this series. Everyone needs this realistic view on fitness and weight loss.

I totally understand the battle with the scale. I think the number going up will ALWAYS bother me, which is why I elect to not weigh daily. I think being a teenager in the early 2000's has just permanently effed up my brain in that regard. Alyssa is 100% killing it! Keep up the great work. 🙂

This series is amazing and so valuable not only for people who need to lose a lot of weight but even for us who are more advanced. I personally have learned so much and been motivated. Especially this and last episode - going about eating out and on the go. I used to have an all or nothing mentality but for me "Perfection is prison" has been my new moto! Still struggling a bit with guilt in such situations but I've been much better! Thank you and Alyssa for taking us on this journey!

I so needed this episode today! Scale went up a bit yesterday and day and am struggling mentally with that as I have been so good with tracking and staying consistent with my workouts. All it took was a dinner to a Thai restaurant to spike in my weight. I am really trying to wrap my head around that it doesn't matter and that stay with it for the long term so today's episode was so valuable to me. As always, thank you Jordan for doing this and thank you Alyssa for being so honest and sharing your journey with us.

Alyssa you are absolutely amazing! I have got the chance to follow Jordan for a few years now and this is by far my favorite series. Thank you both for opening up and sharing your knowledge for so many others like myself. I am currently seven months postpartum with my second over the course of the last three and a half years. I am struggling to love and appreciate my body for what it’s given me after battling infertility and PCOS among other things for so many years. This series has reminded me that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. You have inspired me and given me a kick in the ass to do what I can with what I have at the moment and for that I’m thankful.
