You and Taylor Ray...and sometimes Gingium and Puddin's fab shop are the best to explain why you did something when fabricating! You always have good content for someone who wants to sharpen his skills!! Personally I enjoy more the welding and fabricating part... But as I learned by building my own go kart you always have to have in your mind a lot of fabricating stuff!! So keep up the good work!!!

This channel rips. I miss working on cars and racecars but I'm glad I can watch you do it for us. The $5 pizzas were hard on me every Tuesday shop day. Also when you introduced the anti sabotage goop/hardening fastener visual check it made my year. That is the best addition to any car ever no arguments hands down.

Since I'm a big boy and like sitting at the adult table, I'm gonna put in my usual input Mike! Is it just me or does the tie rod at 9:46 look a tad tweaked at the end? I'm sure you've already caught it in person if it's not a lens distortion. If it is I'd do an inspection on the joint in the rack if you haven't already! Probably took a good deal of force in the hit since that bent.

I should have addressed it, but yes you are correct! It’s bent. Thankfully it’s a cheap universal aluminum TRE, we will replace it when we do all of the steering parts 👍

By all means keep the Nerd content, let people skip ahead, I made a similar error with rack placement on a previous build and corrected it on this one so don't feel like the Lone Ranger Mike! Learning all the time (been playing with cars 47 years and still constantly picking up new things as I go)

Awesome work on your new chassis!! A small tip, when something pulls in after welding use a scissor jack and a suitable strut and jack it back out rather than heating the job. Heating can change metallurgical properties as well as cause more rust. Also you need to wait for it to cool down for your final measurement. Great content and words on this video as always!

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain things. I learn so much because of that. Prior to this, i had never heard of "bump steer". That's part of why your channel stands out of the crowd, and why i keep coming. Most of other youtubers just put a useless timelapse with crappy music over it. I want to understand how things works, the thought process behind what is done, and there's not much channels that provides that, so... keep talking, please !

Most impressive thing I did to a vehicle was to change the battery on my motorcycle - I can't wrench for sh*it - but I love watching this truck come to life. I'm basically here for the visual fix, and picking up a little knowledge I'll most likely never get to use (..but who cares, knowing stuff never goes out of style :)

I really dig this build. In fact, I would really love to see a driving episode in the future of it handling some fast twisty roads. I only ever see these things doing burnouts and drag races, which is cool AF. But I bet yours will handle like a roided’ out go-kart and make for some really cool filming 👌🏻

If the pivot points in your linkages are on the same perpendicular line (like the hinge pins on a car door), and the linkages themselves are of the same length then they will travel through the same arcs and there will be no bump steer. This is best all figured out before the cutting and welding.

one thing i've learnt since subscribing to @stanceworks is that ....nothing is ever the final form.....he builds it, fabs it ...."ok guys it turned out well and I'm happy with it..... next episode "I noticed bla bla...luckily I have the files saved in CAD ...😅😅and then bam " I need to revise it because bla bla.."...hahahahah🤣🤣😅😅😅 never a dull day...hahaha quite interesting tbh...great content and learning tips... You should look into using Areogreen AC-10 rust remover. You simply apply it, let it dry to a white flim, then wipe off.

Instead of filling in large gaps/grooves when welding- run a root pass then run your cover or cap pass- you should look into what a weave pass is- when done with GTAW- can look like a snake skin/fish scale and is much easier on fillet welds... just some thoughts from a boilermaker..

Didn’t go through the comments, and assume you are totally aware of this but just not discussing to this level of detail, but getting the actual tie rod length to align in a similar triangle with the UCA and LCA mounting points/ball joint also impacts bump steer. Steering arm location, rack width, tie rod inclination would all impact this as well but getting it close helps.

I usually don’t let stuff sit around long enough to worry about it. A coat of WD40 would have done the trick honestly

I think you're probably right about rack placement being the cause, but I think you're wrong on the method. If the ball joint was at its limit it would bend or snap, it wouldn't cause bump steer. Not unless the other joints were massively compliant. It's to do with the geometry and the arc that the steering arm prescribes, and its length in relation to the upper and lower arms (sorry, I've not watched the rest, I don't actually know if it's double wishbone, I'm just assuming). With it having a large forward angle there will be a kind of rising rate of change at the extremes of Upper and lower movement as the steering arm is moving in two different arcs, the one you want in a transverse plane, and the one you don't, in a longitudinal plane. Either way the fix is the same and you're on the right path! Now I need to watch the rest of this series...

Looking good Mike! Designing suspension for a given ride height and intended use is one thing but, checking for clearance and ponding through the full range of travel is a must.
