It's amazing how far technology has come since I first started camping with my folks in 1960. Blowing up the air mattresses was always a chore and left us with headaches from blowing. This is a terrific system that will sever you well for many years to come.

+Ossie Weinert I remember those old mattresses. We used a bike pump to inflate them. I am going to take it out for a spin while it is still somewhat cool at night and see how it does.

I am a toss and turn type and have had to bring a big air mattress when tent camping in cooler weather. I could not stand up straight for an hour once when I did not bring it and woke up in pain. Blessed with warm and mild weather in FL, I try to hammock camp as much as I can. Zero back pain, and I even figured out how to side sleep without sinking to the center. That said, the inflator bag is sheer genius! Science did not fail us there. Awesome symbiosis of equipment.

Thanks for the helpful review. I'm watching this almost 3 years after you posted it, and it's still quite relative to sleeping pad choices today. I'm looking to replace my 20-year-old Therm-a-Rest, but the many negative reviews and comments on the newest Therm-a-Rest series are not very encouraging. I have this same model Sea to Summit on my final decision list, and you've helped me decide that it is the one I want to buy. Hope you've gotten good service out of yours. Barry

+Hike with Mike I will be field testing soon while it is still cool at night, (about 50 degrees) to see how the insulation works as well as comfort. I hope it passes the tests. Hammock camping is a whole nuther investment in gear and I'm terrible at tying knots even after all these years.

I bought HILLPOW Comfortable Double Self-Inflating Air Sleeping Pad at only 65.99$, at first, I just wanna have one pad for my children to play on, but it surprised me a lot: you never know that how much air it allowed in. It is big to roll up on and the attached pillow make it very comfortable to sleep on, overall you really can’t beat the comfort for the price.

I wish you would have commented on the comfort of the mattress...looks comfortable. Is there anything better, (comfort wise) than an air mattress?
@asiam7436
@asiam7436 7 жыл бұрын
This particular mattress is sheer heaven. So warm and comfortable in any position...to me. Comfort is different for everyone. For myself, this mattress offered the most comfort and warmth at a weight I was willing to carry and a price I was willing to pay. It also had the unique feature of 2 air chambers so if one had a hole in it, the second chamber would still do the job. The only mattress that would be more comfortable is a winter mattress with down in it but far too heavy to carry in a pack. It is more for car camping or winter camping with a sled to carry it. As far as I know, air mattresses offer the most comfort. There are closed cell mattresses that are known for being lightweight but not as comfortable. Some people can live with the discomfort, others can't. I hope that helps! Thank you so much for watching and your comment. My last video talks about the mattress. I had to use it cowboy camping in a difficult situation. .

This looks comfortable. We have one similar, but it has down filling. That is very important when we go winter camping, but ours are dull and grey, not nice and red 😉 Is it down inside your mattress? The comfort is indispensable for us too!!

You would think the the sleep mat bag would have the valve on it to inflate the mat. I guess they don't do that so they can sell another product. Blowing into the bag with one breath defeats the purpose of using the pump as you want to keep the moisture from your breath out of the sleep mat. Greta review. Thanks for sharing. Sleep well.
@asiam7436
@asiam7436 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and your thoughtful comment. The few puffs of breath is so minimal, I think the anti-microbial properties infused in the mattress will mitigate the possibility of mold. The bag is also a dry bag and a compression bag so I use it for my clothes. I can also use it to do my laundry. I can unplug it to drain the water out and then compress it to eliminate excess water. I use it to prop up my head at night for sleeping. Come to think of it, the bag is now one if my favorite pieces of gear. :)

This mat is super LOUD to sleep on. I don't hear or read this fact anywhere. If you plan on sleeping with people around you or in the same tent, prepare for the negative feedback from everyone that your mat is too noisy, despite all it's apparent benefits.

I have the un-insulated version of this mat, which I've used over 100 nights in a tent. These mattresses are much quieter than most mattresses I've "heard" around camp. Thermarests are the usual culprit...super noisy. While it's no closed cell foam pad...my un-insulated is pretty quiet, and I'd imagine with insulation inside it'd be even quieter.

@asiam7436
@asiam7436 6 жыл бұрын
Good question! To the best of my knowledge they do not make a self inflating one. The bag is so fast. I also use it to store my sleeping bag or clothes that I don't want to get wet because it is waterproof. In addition it acts like a compression sack since you can force air out of the valve after you have filled it. So many uses, it is one of my favorite pieces of gear. Thank you for watching!

I use a similar air mattress (Thermorest NeoAir). After a few weeks on the PCT I mailed it home and replaced it with a sleeping pad in an effort to save weight. Big mistake! I forgot to say that the Thermarest feels hard and flat with no warming feature compared to the luxurious cushy top mattress of the S2S. The underside is the firm layer protecting from rocks, roots etc. The instant my hand touches the mattress in cold weather it warms to the temp of my hand. Laying on it, I can actually feel the heat radiating back to me when I used it in near freezing weather. It was awesome! 5 stars for its weight class.

I would definitely take the Neo air x lite on a section hike or thru hike if I could sleep. I didn't get it because at the time, I didn't know it had a bag to inflate it. I just found that out 2 days ago watching a review by Follow Bigfoot. I'm going to try it on my next visit to REI. The s2s has two chambers which is one reason it is so crazy comfortable.

Yes I was just wondering. Everyone likes the X lite. I actually prefer the one you bought! The xlite is very loud and sounds like your sleeping on a chip bag, and it's harder to blow up. The STS pad is easy to blow up, deflate, super comfy and durable. Only issue is that it's a little heavy, but worth it IMO
