just wanted to say thank u so much for this channel i love it so much. im actually from scotland , currently writing from the west coast!) thank you for this video i love selkies and ive always identified with them in a way..i always thought that the stories about selkie brides were perhaps an expression of strange or uncommon women who were from other places, misunderstood by the people in the places they lived, homesick for their own land.. also omg my dad used to sing the sule skerry song to me all the time!

I find it fascinating that there are still families that claim to be descended from Selkies - If you are interested in doing so please talk more on fairy ancestry in another video!

My Cathey line comes from clan MacFie in Colonsay The name in gaelic is MacDhuibh-Shith and means Son of the dark Faerie. They are thought to be descended from selkies.

There was another movie made around 2001 called The Seventh Stream that featured a selkie. it had Saffron Burrows as the selkie. A sad, very Irish film. Fiona Shaw is in it, too, as I recall.

Great topic, Morgan. When I moved to Scotland (from Ireland) I did some research into local folk tales and came across the movie, the Secret of Ron Inish. I liked it so much that I ended up buying the DVD, soundtrack and the book it is based on. Fun fact: Mick Lally also stars in the movie. He voiced Brother Aidan in the Secret of Kells and he was also a bit of an Irish institution from playing Miley in Glenroe.

Could you possibly make a video about mermaids? Had a frightening astral encounter…well, more like observing from a distance of some mermaids that were VERY cannibalistic. Some exotic looking island far out, farmers?. Or local men leading either goats or lamb to the waterside where the mermaids are waiting along with some other beasts that look like bison? but with sharp shark-like teeth. They would then begin to devour the goats/lamb alive while they screamed, some of the merfolk would drag them under first…it was quite terrifying…they could also swim at almost lightning speed through the water and I also saw an older female mermaid threaten a younger one that she would eat her. They were all beautiful like the myths though, but this whole scene was just shocking!

Just saw your recent interview and was blown away by your feather experience but most especially your seashell experience. I cannot believe the interviewers did not ask you what type of seashell it was. Do you still have the shell? Was it a cowrie kind? I've experienced the same thing except it was placed under the back tire of my car. I noticed it as I was walking back to my car after leaving the store. I don't know what the message was for them to leave it in the path of my car backing up and crushing the shell. Luckily I spotted it before I got inside the car.

I do still have the shell 🐚 it was a small, pearly spiral shell. I've never seen anything like it before or since

GRMA for all this info! I'm especially intrigued by what you said about the terms for seals and selkies being the same in multiple languages. Do you know if seals and selkies were considered the same creatures in those languages?

The same word is used, just like in Japanese kitsune means both fox and a kind of fox-spirit. It seems context clarifies which is being discussed
