"Why tf would you do all this for these wheels? Have some new ones made. Custom wheels would solve the problem. What wheels could be worth this effort?" You're not wrong. But I like the wheels I've chosen and I want to run them. I think they'll make the car. Plenty of you guys, though, are going to be disappointed. Patience, though... time will reveal all.

Having actual racecar wheel on the the car and knowing they've been used in a or more races makes it that much cooler, the only thing I would like is to see that little pointing hand showing the details of the wheels 😁

Unfortunately, you fell into the issue I was hoping wouldn't happen! The idea of the 2 inch 7075 plate was to allow you to set all mounting holes on your "blank" spindle - that includes hub depth, upper/lower arm pivot points, brake mounting in relation to wheel offset. That, and an adjustable upper A arm! I hope you're not too far behind! Sending positive vibes! Careful on the wheels. If they were used for racing, you've got quite a few heat cycles on the aluminum and therefore, more prone to cracking.

Honestly, my only feedback is that I don't feel like you need to apologise about episodes turning out the way they do - 'sorry there wasn't so much action today' etc. A build is a multifaceted, complex endeavour that's going to vary day to day. This content is insanely good and highlights just how impressive a job you're doing, and I think the vast majority of your audience understand that.

I LOVE seeing all of the work that goes in to getting the suspension geometry worked out. Please keep making these technical videos. Some may complain, but engineers like myself absolutely love this!

I love how this car is nothing I would ever look for in a ferrari - no ferrari engine note, not red, no gated shifter, yet its cooler than anything I could imagine 🍻

B and K Series engines are closer to a Ferrari engine note than any engine that is... not a Ferrari.

You mentioned your rambling ... personally I love it ... I'm a car guy and would LOVE to have an uber project like your 308 some day. Your ramblings make me think of how I'd go about a project. Things to think about, things I may not have even thought about etc. Like you said - you're doing this for a reason, there's a purpose; so why not do it RIGHT even if it takes a few trials and errors. AND you want it to look a certain way because ... it's YOUR car. Cheers! And can't wait to keep watching!

As long as quality hub centric spacers ( H&R, Eibach ) and longer wheel studs are used there are no issues with spacers.

A whole host of race car teams use spacers to dial in front and rear track width, sometimes at the track to dial in bias. Hub centric spacers, longer wheel studs and making sure that you are torquing your nuts is totally safe and a good tool to have when you need to really dial in your car.

Scrub radius as mentioned. Also throws off your camber/bump steer calculations whilst the front wheels are turned.

Second comment on one video from me, because I wanted to chime in. Keep talking, keep sharing, keep explaining. Anyone can look at a finished build and see the end result of all the decision making, trial-and-error, and development, but documenting a build like this is the opportunity for us to learn more about it, get "in your head" and follow along with the same hurdles you're facing, engineering goals you're reaching for, and decisions you're making along the way.

Wheel spacers aren’t a problem. I used to supply Braid competition wheels and if the customer wanted a lower than usual offset Braid would supply the wheels with a spacer that they would attach to the wheel. They would drill and countersink the spacer and then drill and tap the mounting face of the wheel and bolt the spacer directly to the wheel. You could barely tell the space was there.

Mike, an in depth detailed video(s) of the suspension design process would be absolutely fantastic. For example, where do you start, what's next, etc. As one who is trying to learn suspension design for my own projects. It's a daunting task understanding where to start. You having done several now, along with your presentation style. I believe a video or several outlining the decision making process, how one thing effect another, how to manage everything with in reason would give the automotive community great value. I know for me personally, it would be priceless.

My god, this build is so so much better thought out and overall pleasing than all the other ones on youtube (well, maybe all but binky. But that's a whole different kind of car). Weird that I just stumbled onto it by chance, you deserve 10 times the attention imho. Keep up the great and inspiring work, I'll be off to watch the whole thing now. Make sure you use hub-centric wheel spacers, most cheap wheel spacers only rely on the wheel studs to locate and support the wheel. The wheel is meant to be supported laterally by that small ring that sticks out in the center of the hub. Hub-centric wheel spacers have a lip that fits over that ring and another lip that fits into the wheel.

I have to say I really like the trans! Its a company that make an awesome product!!I just wish they werent insanely expensive!!!Oh the spacers wont hurt anything I know from personal use when I worked on a nascar team we used them ALL the time!I like what you did for the control arms.The one thing I will remind you is make sure you make extra of your control arms after you get a test drive so you have spares.The one thing that really sucks is be at the track and have one fail and have to packup and go home!I still think in the end you are gonna make your own mounting spots but you wont know until you drive it hard.

Great video. Man, that suspension software is very cool! Having attempted a big budget project car (sadly unfinished and sold for a HUGE loss) I know the sort of dramas involved. Completely agree with your engine choice too!

I think you doing great. This is a very complex build, People are used to seeing guys building cars in a week with crapy paint and of the shelve parts. That is not real life for something like this, look at Project Binky for example. It is a good ballance between engineering, talking, explaining, working and fabrication. As an engineer myself designing cars I understand the thought process. It is a constant pro's and con's game. Especially if you start from scratch. You have to set your values and design around it like you explain in this video with the brake setup. The most difficult thing with a build like this is picking an option and sticking with it. On my channel i am designing an ultra light electric kit car. and i am constantly batteling weight v.s. costs. Keep up the good work. Hope your suppliers are able to keep up with your progress and there is no curveball in Las Vegas this year..... (hope I did not Jinx it..)

Oh man, that gearbox! And that gearknob!!! I fitted a quickshifter to my 90's sportsbike bike and honestly, shifting gear at wide open throttle is just about better than s*x ;-)

Dude you are absolutely killing this build in the best way possible. I've been following since episode 1 and Tuesdays and Thursdays are actually exciting for me. I'm a mechanic by trade and working on cars these days isn't really that exciting anymore, but this build has re-ignited my passion for building cars. So thank you. Seriously.

Mike "Control Arm" Burroughs 😆 I let out a bit of a chuckle when I saw the revised one in the intro sequence. So feedback.... might want to go ahead and triangulate that new lower control arm, either with extending the tube along the "angle" of the leg until it intersects with the other leg, or with a gusset.

I think the contention over spacers is that sometimes they are added without accounting for the increased stress on hubs and suspension, leading to predictable failures. Of course those who race 308s are also familiar with Enzo's failure to engineer enough margin into the OEM hubs to avoid fatigue fracture. Pimped-up, body-kitted cars also have a bad rep because they are often put together without heed to the dire effects on overall geometry, but it looks like you are all over the potential pitfalls and will end up with a great handling and great looking car. Oh, and excellent lug nuts!

The bad reputation spacers have is caused by all the different mistakes people regularly make when fitting them. There are the geometry issues you mention but I've also seen bolts/studs that are too short many times and installations that give no consideration to hub centric wheels so they vibrate badly.

low quality generic spacers end up giving all spacers a bad name. you end up with holes that are too big for the studs, or the spacer isn't hub centric (when applicable), and so it doesn't sit between the hub and wheel in a way that gives the best contact between all mating surfaces, or isn't aligned correctly. just bad. good spacers are safe and effective for their purpose.

Great video as always, it's an awesomely unique build. The only thing I would wish differently is the amount of technical details. I'm the kind of guy that wants ALL the details, but I get that you have to balance it for the algorithm.

Dude, you bought the best transmission money can buy, I work on a lot of Hillclimb cars since I live in Europe, and most of them run Quaife transmissions or internals, the only side note is that it is a racing transmission, it will buck like crazy in low-speed traffic on the street. "Because racecar" kkkkk, most custom racecars run wheel spacers, but most of them don't go over 1 1/2 inch since that is the limit when the wheel bearing starts to wear out and keep in mind that a wheel spacer affects the scrub radius in the car no matter the size of it.

I used to think I was flirting with trouble but when I saw just about every top time attack car in Japan (1000+hp cars) running them (bolt on) I gave up on working. Hub bearings are once a season wear items anyway and you changed hubs to make that part simple . Keep it up man

The secret to keeping quaife to last is really nailing the settings for shift cut and throttle blipping in the ecu... We changed ecu to emtron and the gearbox lasts much much longer...

When you put the engine in think about the size of alternator you may need for the extra coolant pumps etc . Diesel versions are normally higher amperage and cheap . Love it , keep up the swing arm production .

What I have learned from this series is that suspension is a beautifully complex system that can simultaneously look great but be a gremlin to drive or vice versa

I love seeing this build progress! One thing I was told when trying to make something perfect is, "don't let great get in the way of good enough." In the grand scheme of a project is spending the extra time and effort to get that 1% better worth it? But that's something you justify for yourself and only you can answer that.

Build a hot rod with the same principles! The model A in the background of my intro is that way… sort of. Using junk yard parts you can build an awesome machine capable of some incredible things, all on a minimal budget. In fact, part of me would like to do a build series like that.
