Great video. Good honest look at getting a bow sighted in. And I can relate on using the wrong pin. I have used a multiple pin sight for years but just recently went to a single pin sight with the HHA Kingpin. I got it all sighted in with no issues but my last shot was at 60 yards and I put the bow away without returning it to 20 yards. So the next day i grab my bow with it unwittingly still set for 60 yards decided to shoot my bag target hanging in my shop (10 yards) and got a pass through on the very top of the bag and right through the wall. I religiously return that thing to 20 after every shot now :)

Great setup. Tighten up those groups by "Tiller Tuning" at 40 yards. Turn your limb bolts a half to a full turn up and down and shot 5 arrows each time to see what groups best. Your arrows will group different between softball and golf ball sizes. You will have to re-sight everything once you're done though. It's a must for long distance shots. Walk Back tuning is good too. Good Luck!

A couple things I always tell new archers is to try and keep your body as relaxed as possible especially your bow hand. It looked like you had your hand slightly relaxed, one thing I do is open my hand completely when I get to full draw and then lightly place the pads of my middle and fore finger right on the front of the grip to prevent torquing. That goes along with what someone else said about the wrist sling which if you need one I make them out of paracord to match your bow and string. Also as some others have said it does look like your D loop could be moved up a little bit. If you look at how your bow sits at full draw from the side the top of the riser shouldn't be ahead of the bottom unless shooting down hill. Keep up the good work.

l find when sighting in at long distances an all black target with a white 3 inch center dot helps me concentrate my aim ,I stair at the dot not the pin. Good luck. There is also another method where you use an all white background and one black center stripe,you first have it horizontal not concerned with left or right just up and down once you hit the line consistently turn the the target so the line is vertical then you fine tune left and right. now you should be perfectly sighted in at that distance.

Allie, just looking at your thumbnail of the video of you at full draw and a still of the relation of the D-loop and the amount of serving above the loop it looks a like your nock point could be a little low. If you want some feedback put a pic on instagram with a bow square and your rest in the up most position, so with tension on the cord as a QAD will not be fully up until at full draw. you will then need to move your peep up a bit and then reserve it. this will also move you point of impact up and you will need to move your sight accordingly which will give you more range out of the sight before fletching contact. i too self taught myself how to work on bows and enjoyed doing it. KZfaq wasn't as big of an instructional place when I learned but there are tons of good videos out there now. you're doing great and I wish you tons of success this season. What draw weight are you shooting and what arrows? Also, what broadheads do you plan on shooting, and for what game animals? Great video and keep hammering.

May have better luck sighting in a 20 yds first then move back. My two cents. That have made tuning and sighting less time consuming and easy. Less lost arrows. 😁
@KFieLdGaming
@KFieLdGaming 7 жыл бұрын
Same. Maybe it's just what that sight with the "REACT" technology calls for. I don't know. I shoot a Sword Twilight Hunter 5 pin sight. I always, always, always "walk-back" sight in. The very first thing I do is establish my center-shot, and then paper tune. Once the paper tune is where i want it, I'll go outside and start sighting in. I move all the pins to the top of the sight housing before I touch anything else. I'll walk up to 10 yards, and fire 3 arrows just to get an idea of my point of impact. I don't make any adjustments here. Then I walk back to 20 yards, and fire 3 more arrows. I move my entire sight housing up or down at this point, not the individual pins. I keep adjusting it so my first pin is dead on at 20. I usually put a 1" circle inside the target vitals(deer target) as my reference. Once I'm hitting that 1" circle consistently, I lock the elevation on my sight housing adjustment, and don't touch it again. I think of this as my baseline basically. From this point forward I only move the pins individually as I go back in yardage. In my case, my first pin covers everything from 1 yard to 30 yards. And that's the pin I use for 90% of my shots in the woods. I only use 3 pins in the woods, but I have the sight capable of reaching 80 yards, as that is the max I can practice at. Once I've done all of that for field points, then it's time to make some tweaks for broadheads. But I've got my baseline established and that takes out a lot of guess work. I'll paper tune with them, and then repeat the whole process over again. It's a thorough process, but an enjoyable one for me. I know without a shadow of a doubt that the bow will do it's job if I do mine. Currently shooting a Halon 6.

Hey Allie, a hunter should always think ethically. When I shot compound I never took shots over 30 yards, just for the reason of anything longer could result in bad shot placement, deflection, bla bla bla and cause your animal unneeded pain and suffering. A quick and clean kill is a hunters number 1 goal. Long distance target is fun, bringing your game in at 5 and 10 yards this is what makes a real hunter not how long you can shoot. Some more advice if you dont mind, get you some traditional gear bring em in close and bag em, then you will have gone hunting.

Hey Allie what's your draw weight? I've been worried that I'm trying to practice at too high a starting weight because after a few shots I have to do a "wiggle draw" where my elbow comes down by my chest instead of coming up over the top of my shoulder but I saw you do something similar and I feel a lot better! Thank you for being such an inspiration :)
@OutdoorsAllie
@OutdoorsAllie 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Lily! I'd recommend shooting the highest weight that you can comfortably draw (and I mean truly comfortable- you don't want to injure yourself). As long as your draw is comfortable for you and not interfering with your hunt (i.e drawing with your bow pointed to the sky could spook game), you'll be just fine! I am currently shooting between 53-55lbs. I hope that helps. Good luck this season! :)

hey, it looks to me like your d loop is just a bit low, and from my perspective like your top cam is leaning to your right i have the same problem just something to watch on the sight level, and the reason you jumped the bow is because you're griping the bow to much if you have a sling you should use it and when you take the shot let the bow jump forward from your hand and catch it when the arrow has left the arrow. Your form is great by what i saw tho.

Hey there- sorry for the delay!! But that is awesome! I went with the 34 because the longer axle to axle makes the bow more stable and forgiving! (and its only .3lbs heavier than the 30.5)
@Phantim3dx

Defiant owner here, went with the 30 because my draw length is 27.5 and with a longer axle to axle it just meant i wasnt going to maximize the FPS/KE on a 34 with my short draw length. Overall, I absolutely love my Defiant. Shooting a drop away rest on maxima reds (250) w/ 100gr tip, it delivers.

good video, but i gotta say I've never heard of a sight that says to sight in at 40 first. Doesn't make any sense to me. you'd be better off starting at 20 and backing up to the yardage usually 20-40 on the react ones. then the other pins auto align. which will tell you if your rest is on properly also. if you go at 20 and its good but move to 40 and its way off to the side, the rest may have to be moved.

My limbs are 50 - 60 so I'm probably hovering between 53-55lbs!

Dear Lady - paper tune - paper tune. Then you will see the arrows hit straight in target without the angle seen in video. Paper tune for better flight - improved power on impact. The knocks are seen pitched up on some hits. Or pitched left on other hits.Or you could bust out the wallet for a bow shop alignment! You are a do it yourselfer - so I figure you'll check out some utube how to's, and get to it. Ray, in Alabama, says kudos on being such a outdoors gal.
