Hi and welcome to our channel!
Who are we:
Scandinavians Arne Nerjordet and Carlos Zachrison are highly regarded designers, textile artists and authors. They are best known for their craft books and their original, colourful and visually striking designs. Their work is highly influenced by their Scandinavian background and their everyday life in rural Norway. They work under their artist name ARNE & CARLOS, which they established in 2002.
We publish a weekly, new tutorial every Sunday on both our KZfaq channel and our Facebook page. We hope you enjoy it!

Many of you are asking why we don’t neuter Freja. And the answer is that it is not common practice in Norway. We have very strict animal welfare laws here and it is not allowed to routinely spay and neuter dogs. Veterinarians will usually only neuter dogs if there are any strong, mainly medical reasons to do so. Every case is evaluated with the animal’s best interest in mind. Also, things like tail docking is absolutely forbidden under Norwegian law. Edit: to those mentioning overpopulation of pets and having to euthanise 4-5 million pets every year, please keep in mind you are talking about the USA and this situation doesn’t exist in Norway or many other European countries. Norway does not have dog overpopulation problems at all. About 9.000 pets were rescued and given new homes in Norway in 2019. That’s a ginormous difference compared to the USA.

I noticed the tails not docked. Years ago we had a standard poodle, and her tail was docked before she came to us. Now I am seeing *some* poodles w/ natural tails here in the US.

My dog is not neutered either. ( My veterinarian is calling it " Americanized")And he is very healthy due to that. You both are so cute and interesting. That poodle is also very cute.

Just FYI - spaying and neutering reduces cancer risks, urinary tract infections, thyroid problems (mostly for male dogs) and injury from being in heat, or obviously having puppies. I didn't know this with my male poodles and had to do it later in their lives to extend their life. . . it would have been better earlier. But clearly you love your dog. (glad you didn't dock her tail - my poodles had it done before I got them. . . wish it not been done).

Aw I love the the saying ' a loved child has many names ' I've not heard that before. It makes me happy thinking about all the names I get called and also our cats have at least 20 names each. Thank you for telling us about your family histories it's so interesting and you two have completely different backgrounds but have found each other and get on so well, it's lovely. And my favourite part was Arne coming out with Carlos' hidden nickname in the band and Carlos' face 😂😂😂

Foxes can jump very high, the one that has adopted me can jump onto my deck that is 6 feet 9 inches off the ground. She adopted me after the tornado last year. I think she lost her mate, she seemed depressed. I was too after seeing my paradise just devastated. We got used to our new world together, just knowing the other one was there. By this spring we were ready to embrace the exciting changes. She found a new mate, and I got more wildflowers than I've seen in my 50 years. With the cooling temperatures she is joining me again to read or knit/crochet on the deck. Her new husband comes too but he stays on the far side. She is constantly trying to steal yarn or smaller projects, she did steal a sock, so be careful with your beautiful folk socks.

Thank you so much for this. Living alone during this pandemic has been, at times, very difficult and isolating. Being able to knit and crochet while watching and listening is wonderful, like I have someone in the house with me for a while. You are so entertaining and fun. I just have to say that this new format is so much fun and enjoyable. It was so interesting hearing about yours and Arne's origin stories and could listen to both of you for days and days. I think you need to get a new dog for when Helmut is gone back to his family. You will miss him so much. He will miss you as well. I love your garden views and think you should take photos of them then have them made into Arne and Carlos merch. I love your additions for your costume Carlos. I still have mine in a box. I cherish them. My mother was able to have one child’s costume made while living in Norge. My sister wore it with her own jewellery. Then I wore it. It has been passed on down to our daughters and now granddaughters. Such a special tradition. I have been in Norge visiting my cousins on May 17. I loved being there. But I don’t have a special costume now. I look forward to seeing yours when they are ready. Thanks for another relaxing visit. So wonderful to sit (vicariously) in your garden with you again, for as long as it lasts. We were literally confined indoors here in Oregon for a week and a half due to the toxic air from wildfires, so just grateful to be able to go outside again. Something else we take for granted until we can't do it! Very thoughtful of Carlos to give us a good- bye view of the lake, also.

Today was a very busy day for me. We had a massive deliver of yarn in the shop, and I started organising and putting it away. It was fun playing with thousands of balls of yarn, but also rather tiring. So far, we've managed to put away about a third of it. Tomorrow, I start again. I came home, my husband made dinner, and I sat and watched this pod cast. It was wonderful. It feels like a silly time talking with friends.

Ok - now I'm in love with Helme. 💜 What a sweet boy. 🐩 The podcast is great - we get some everyday talk, maybe a bit of culture, some thoughts on a new design - it's like having the neighbors pop in for a quick visit & cup of coffee! Best of all, my tunisian crochet project seems to be going along more quickly by just hanging out with you guys! (220 stitches forward, 220 stitches back, 💁 who knows how many rows before I'm crazy?) It was so interesting to hear your backgrounds, all the while fearing for that camera to end up in the lake. LOL Thankfully that did not happen, and we were all delighted with all that you shared with us, including the lovely "Sunflower" pattern. I could listen to you guys talk for hours...the segment went by so fast! Loved the shot of the lake in the end.

Love your podcasts! Your company is so enjoyable. Here is a weaving tip for Arne: try weaving with self-striping/self-patterning sock yarn. It's strong enough for warp, and using the same colorway for warp and weft creates beautiful plaids and a nice weight for a scarf. Thanks for all you do!

Really pleasant and relaxing episode! I want you to how much I enjoyed your talk on Sunday through River City Yarns zoom. I don’t know how well you could see us, but I wore my mother’s 1950’s ski sweater in honor of your many inspirations from vintage patterns. It was the 3 colors Arne wore today! Red, white and black!

Such a lovely gift of jewelry to receive. Arne, Helmer looked as though he was going to knock you down too but he loves you! The stories shared about your backgrounds was so very interesting. Also, your sweaters are so lovely. We will continue to have very warm weather here in Central California through the month of October. I'm glad I came across you guys on the internet. I don't knit much but you make me feel like I should knit more. Your podcasts are fun to watch in any case. You flashed up a photo of one of your designs in a magazine briefly in Episode 3. I'd really like it if you did more of that, and even better if you had the garments to show as well. It doesn't matter if they are old, it's always great to look at beautiful craftwork.

Enjoying your podcast on my lunch break at the clinic. You need to knit Rob a cozy when he retires for the season. A Rob cover so he is warm and safe. lol I live in Northcentral Wisconsin and we have had a couple of frosts ourselves. Warm today at 78 degrees but back to the 50's next week. Enjoying the leaves changing colors...I see you are too! Have a wonderful day.
