In all my 46 years as a Brit, the “family wanking” audience roast was maybe the most uncomfortable thing I’ve watched! You did very well understanding young man, it’s not even easy sometimes for the English. I’d also recommend Jimmy Carr as worth a watch.

First off, well done on actually understanding Frankie. I’ve seen many Americans react to him and can’t understand his strong Scottish accent. As for references you need to say which ones need explaining. But from your time index it was when the guy responded to Frankie’s question about whether he was working and the guy replied “No, on the brew.” On the brew in that context means he is on the dole or benefits, hence the booing. Frankie is a master of roasting the audience. He was also legendary on a British improv show called Mock the Week.

He is the best comedian I’ve seen live. By a long shot. He used to be on tv a lot but they had to edit out so much of his comedy that it was just annoying for producers to book him. He is the best uk comic.

A word of advice... if you ever come to the UK and go to a comedy club, under no circumstances should you sit in or near the front row unless you're ready to be destroyed by the comedians.

@Martin Dines It's the normal phrase in Scotland, usually spelled "broo" There are 2 schools of thought on where in came from. 1 is that broo was an archaic Scots term for a large pot of soup or thin stew made when money was tight. Same derivation as dole, where this "broo" was served to the poor. 2nd idea is that broo is simply a corruption of bureau, as in the unemployment bureau. I favour the 1st term as it it similar to the English term dole - to dole out soup

The bit about the people of Ethiopia holding a rock concert for a Scottish town, is a reference to the Live Aid concert in the mid 1980s, where a rock concert was held in Wembley Football stadium to raise money to help fight poverty in Africa, you might like to react to Queen's performance at the event, as is one of legend. Casualty, is a UK TV drama set in a fictional hospital. Jeremy Kyle is a talk show, I guess the closest US equivalent is the Jerry Springer Show, just without the fighting... mostly! The bit about the religious problems in Ireland is because the Protestant Christians and Catholics, don't exactly get on, and there has been some violent clashes between the two groups. Anything else you'll just need to specify.

As well as his standup and panel show appearances, he has recently been doing 'Frankie Boyle's New World Order' full of political diatribe, discussion and rants about modern life, as well as 'Frankie Boyle's Tour of Scotland' - a rather different kind of travelogue where you get to see him opening up about his own life. An interesting, funny and intelligent man, with some very strong opinions, especially as to the bstds that rule over us in the UK.

Also, there's a good chance you know this already but northern Ireland is home to a Catholic paramilitary called IRA who's aim in northern Ireland is to free the region from British control however they've been described as a terrorist organisation due to their use of explosives and guerrilla tactics in civilian areas so it's somewhere between a military and street gang but end up being more like a terrorist organisation

Frankie is from Glasgow, Scotland. Scottish humour is VERY different from English humour. Scots can sound more blunt direct and aggressive in tone. The "buroo" is the Scottish slang term for Social Security or as you would say in the States- being on welfare. Pollok is a rough working class neighbourhood in Glasgow. Northern Ireland has a history of Religious tension with a long period of terrorist activity between Catholics who want a united Ireland and Protestants who want Northern Ireland to remain as part of the UK. Frankie Boyle is considered one of the most offensive/controversial comedians in the UK.
