Hi superjoe how should I train specifically for broad jumps?? Are there any lifts or plyos that have direct carryover to broad jumps. I am at 2.5m right now . I do squats and deadlifts and some plyos. You have any tips mate??
@joku73 Жыл бұрын
Full squats olympic style for anterior, fast straight leg deadlift for posterior. 10m sprints for speed. Hanging leg raises for psoas and core. I have enough experience with deadlift (300kg) to know its detrimental to explosive training. Power cleans are better but not necessary either. Plyos may help if done correctly with speed, but the risk to reward ratio is small. Improving squats without adding body weight whilst keeping mobility will help more.

Have you tested your vertical jump? I’m sure it’s much higher than mine, just curious by how much 😅
@joku736 жыл бұрын
Just tested at 34 inch in my back yard. I've never tested it before but i'd imagine when i did this (2015) i'd have been closer to 40. I'm in the process of building back after a major injury.
@briando77526 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the effort to test it. I don't doubt it would have been close to 40; you're explosive as hell. I'm guessing you tested pretty fairly too, since that's a pretty reasonable number, and still very high. KZfaq commenters apparently all have 40+ inch jumps, and their likely shitty testing dilutes the prestige of a good jump.

Amazing jump. How was your progress after a few years of training? After 2 years I can broad jump 10.2 feet, but my max squat is only 170 kg.
@joku733 жыл бұрын
Age 15 i did 2.87m. I started weight training age 18 with i think a 3.14m at the time. I got to a 220x3 squat when i did my first 3.50. However, i could only squat 210 when i did 3.53m post achilles surgery. Approx 6 years training to max this ability so you probably have a lot more coming.

@@mantaspilipuitis6634 I was doing 3-3.1m not only without much experience but also without having trained a day of my life (15-16y old at the time). In fact, i was addicted to video games and i was sitting at school for 5-6+ hours and then i would run back home and continue playing video games all day and i could do that. I think it has a lot to do with technique and genes and bodyweight. Also we would do it at school on flat concrete. I think off of a small ledge like in the video and sand for cushioning i could also do like 3.2 with NO training and 16y old i would say is not even your natural untrained prime. But i dont feel like losing all my muscle just to try to max out lmao (i also started weight training and i've gained 40-45lbs of mostly muscle since then) and i think this extra weight i have now will not allow me to reach my true potential so i think i am never even going to try improving this much. BULGARIAN POWER!
@mantaspilipuitis66343 жыл бұрын
@@ironchump1501 Yeah, light bodyweight definitely helps to be explosive. Many things depend on genetics. Some people naturally jump well and are barely able to improve, while others might start low and be able to progress for 10 years. Of course, if you jump well and have a potential to improve a lot than you are lucky

Usually when my olympic style squat is good, these are good without the need to practice them at all. It won't make you fast though, so if you do any sport add sprints/depth jumps.

Standing jumps are more static strength based. Long jump requires much more elastic strength/speed so they don't really carry over well. I did 7.60m long jump but from experience 3-3.20m is a good enough base for most athletic events.

@@rudarskacokula4611 At 15 i did 2.87m and 3.50 age 23, then 3.53 age 26. Everyone is individual where they end up but at 63kg you could gain a lot of explosiveness by gaining muscle.
