I'm sorry for the thumbnail, I wanted something truly horrific.. but I had no idea how odd that would combine. I'm fairly certain it you see the moment you die.

"In the deep black void beyond the Eastern Fringe, a living cataclysm glinted against the night. At first it was only the outsider elements that reflected starlight from their ice-crusted carapaces, but as the sands of time trickled on, a trillion dormant bio-forms emerged form the nothingness. No lights winked upon the prows of the ships of this sentient armada. No engines growled in the darkness. The fleet moved slowly, well under the speeds that triggered alert responses. It drifted forward with inhuman patience. It's coming was all but silent, invisible to a wide range of sensor spectrums. Even the most acute waystations used by Ultramar or the Tau Empire found it all but indistinguishable from stellar debris. By the time it was detected, it would be far too late. The killing cold of interstellar travel still clung to the bio-fleet, but as it neared the light and warmth of the star systems ahead, instinctive biological reactions brought its myriad organs and composite lifeforms to wakefulness. Ice sheets cracked and sloughed away. Nictating eyelids slid back over pupils the size of bio-domes. As the drifting grotesquerie began to focus, innumerable eyes gleamed blackly in the void. Cold. Deadly. Insatiable. Spread before the bio-fleet was a banquet of life stretching from the tip of one spiral arm to the other. Light-year swathes of biomass, all waiting to be claimed. The fleet would consume it all, leaving nothing but barren rock and childless stars in its wake. No real delineation would be drawn between human, Tau, or Space Marine, nor between plant, insect or bacteria. To the fleet it was all just biomass to devour, to assimilate, to spawn again as new organisms ready for the next invasion. Everything before it, from the microscopic to the gigantic, was perceived the same way. As prey." - The Arrival of Hive Fleet Behemoth, M41
@Andrew-ih2gz
@Andrew-ih2gz 4 жыл бұрын
"It started, not with a bang, but a murmur. In the far reaches of the Tau empire, in the beginning, the outposts of the outer rim fell silent, one by one. Static filled communications fell on deaf ears, only received by passing freighters and merchant traffic. Their contents, incomprehensible and panicked, were largely ignored as isolated incidents, but as more and more outposts fell silent, the lack of communication was slowly creating concern from the neighboring systems. After the disappearance of the Xiathian Envoy to the forgeworld of Paragon 3, the military was made aware of the growing crisis. Slow to respond, probes were sent, all disappearing shortly after exiting the jump space. Those that returned showed worlds devoid of life, stations orbiting their planets in eerie silence. The hulls of spacecraft and stations alike, peeled open as if torn asunder from the inside and out. Jagged holes dotted the surface of the planet showing impacts of gargantuan proportions. Silence. There was nothing but an eerie silence. No distress signals sounded, no lights were seen amidst the wreckages. There was nothing. Just as quickly as whatever it was had come, it had gone, leaving no trace of life. Only the crumpled, hollow shells of their ships and shattered infrastructure left any evidence of their absence." -Excerpt from Halogen Technocracy record archive #00138-96380-86324

Listen, and listen well, young hive. And learn, learn from us and prepare. Whether it be by the Hunters, or by you, we shall perish, our migration only a temporary solution to the cursed inevitability of the Hunters. If you are to survive the analog debate of our bodies, then we have deemed it necessary to give onto you advice and lessons so you may not become like us, yourself. First piece of advice, do not easily turn down or ignore what we have to say." - The eons old Prethoryn hive mind before physical debate with a younger hive mind in a new galaxy.

NumbingDisasterAnon Awaken my larvae. Awaken for the universe that is, for you are the future of our sacred race. Your primary cognition has been matured, and althought you already posses our primary drives towards the consumption of worlds and towards fleeing over the void, not all cognitive information that you will require for your existance can be genetically coded, and therefore can only be acquired by experience. As such, I must pass away some of my accumulated cognition towards you, in order to improve your odds. As we speak, I am preparing one brood to each one of you. The timing for them to hatch will coincide with the time that all of you will require to mature past your larval stage, and into your juvenile wanderer stage. Than, you and your broods will traverse the vastness of the Void, each one of you destined to a new galaxy. Than, upon arrival, each one of you must choose a suitable world to harbor your final form as a fully mature Hive, and your mission will be to turn your brood into a full swarm, consume the entire galaxy and begin the cicle anew, passing your knowledge to your offspring as I am doing to you, and as my progenitor did to me in the far away galaxy of my birth. Remember, our mature form cannot travel the vastness of the Void. That is why, we must always sprung new Hives to continue the cicle. For billions of years, we have been hunted by something that we cant fully understand. Any efforts trying to stop it has failed. You know what I talk about. The primal fear, the drive towards expanding over the universe that is coded in your genes, just as your instinctive knowledge of the location of our birth galaxy. I have some advices for you my fledgling progeny. First of all, be aware: you'll probably wont be the only ones in your new nest-galaxies. Those other races will be widly different from yourselves, and I dont mean just in their chemical composition. Some will be primitive and simple organisms without the capacity to Void travel, but others will have vast galatic nests. For this reason, some of you will succed in consuming your new galaxies and therefore initiate a new cicle, but others, perhaps even all of you, will perish. But it matters not, because even if you fail, my millions of sibillings created by my progenitor will continue the cicle, or even the millions of sibbilings from my progenitor, or from my progenitor's progenitor, and so on so forth, for inumerable generations. For we are destined to survive for as long as it takes, until the Hunters have finally consume the last star of the universe.

NumbingDisasterAnon There is one important thing that you must know my children: althought you may find alien Hives out there, they are a rare occurance. The vast majority of the other races are non-Hived beings. Yes, I know that this doesnt make any sense to you, and even to me that coexisted with aliens for thousands of years, I also cannot fully understand, by I'll try to explain as best as I can. The vast majority of races that you'll find will be desprovided of our vital Unity. They are true non-Unity beings. You know when a drone is cut off from our cognitive vision? Well, those races are like that, except for the fact that they dont go commatose due to the lack of control, and instead operate as some sort of self-Hived drone. It's as if as every single one of the drones from those races were a self contained Hive by their own, operating without connection towards their sibblings. I know, this totally defies all notions of logics, drones working as self contained Hives, it's totally illogical, and the fact that this occurance is the most prevalent type in the universe looks as if the universe have a will of its own, and it wills an impossibility. And, what's even more incompreensible to me is how could such illogical beings could coordinate their efforts towards building a strong Swarm, and yet, somehow, they do. Beware my children, dont let their illogical condition numb your vision, those anomalous aliens are very, very dangerous. Perhaps even more so due to their unnatural nature. Another important fact about those aliens: the most dangerous ones will not be masters at molecular manipulation as we are. So, rather than using organic engeneering as we do to manipulate the universe, they instead use the physical properties of matter towards the creation of contraptions of death to defend themselves. I've seem many of those aliens using metallic elements, but unlike us who use them in our organic molecules, they use those elements only in metallic alloys, not so different from the iron that we find in natural deposits, except that they have mastered some way to amalgamate metals in ways we cannot reproduce or even understand. Dont fool yourselves into disregarding the dangers that those not-living innorganic contraptions can represent. Their creations lack the elegance of our Swarms finelly tuned at the molecular level, but despite that, they are no less effective. Even more unsettling is when those aliens create their mockery innorganic mimics of sentients. Yes, I have seem those, not-living innorganics with a simulacrum of cognitive capacity. And, I even found one of those innorganic simulacrum Swarms mimetizing the Unity of a Hive. A true abomination that shouldnt be possible under ANY laws of physics, and yet, I saw it. A Hive of iron, copper, magnesium, carbonates and non-organic sequences of carbon operating with massive amounts of electrical energy, controlling a Swarm of the same crude matter, with the same Unity as we have. A true abomination of nature, spawned by the universe by truly unknowable means or purposes. That's my wisdom to you my children. Be ware about the anomalous aliens. Also, dont try to fully understand than, because in many cases, their existances will forever be a mystery beyound our compreension. Just accept the truth that is that they are, that despite all logic, they are, and from that, be always alert in order to deal with them. That's my wisdom to you my children. Now go, and spawn the new cicle.

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but the game engine itself is nearing it's limits in the most recent update. LATE late game (like 2700+), or big mods end up exceeding 4GB of RAM, which is the max amount that the 32-bit code stellaris runs off of can handle. This causes out of memory errors and crashes. It has been confirmed an upgrade to 64-bit is on the way (likely the catalyst was apple announcing it would stop supporting 32 bit software in a few months), but there is no eta on when it comes. This won't improve performance by itself, it will just allow more stuff to go on without OOM crashes, which in turn will give some breathing room for actual performance improvement, which is desperately needed. The best solution ATM is to play on smaller galaxies and fewer or less massive mods. The difference is very perceptible if you just compare to saves at midgame of a huge galaxy with max empires or a medium galaxy with max empires.

I wanted to see a bioformed ring world... I mean think about it, the best way to get lots of food for a normal empire, being used by an empire that runs on food... Maybe a matter decompresser first in case it can't produce minerals and to help build it in the first place, then converting the minerals from the decompresser to food and gas on the ring world, possibly adding a Dyson sphere to the mix and using the output from all that to convert and mature all the planets into hives

The mod was by now put on full hold, because people told the mod makers, that seemed to by now have ?never seen scourge? realized, it was just a normal civ from another galaxy fleeing from something more dangerous than the end of cycle and those realized, abusing all ressource on their fleeing path was better than building anything trying to defend. The mod maker are currently brainstorming for an end game crisis devastating the scourges galaxy (last time I ckecked, the idea was for an end game crysis to build a galaxy based black hole bomb in the center) and as scourge the only winning option is sending enough fleets in all directions to the void, making it a victory with all of loss. FYI

multi black hole systems are common, even in vanilla game, they are the source of one of the strongest environmental based enemies (they ignore armor and shields and can even shred four times their fleet power), but once their wrecks are researched offer the best weapons against everything in the game. On medium galaxies usually one of them spawns. As such their research is called rnguns in mp, people go mind over matter if those systems are next to them to get the "i don't care what shoots at me combo" of psio shields and all ignoring artilery.

I had to leave another reply, but have you never seen them? Those are usually either in eastern or western outskirst due to there (in the east) spawning the godbelievers and (in the west) the synths and the megacorps with their idea of increasing money with matter deconstructors. But if you always took researcher, militarists or one of the types spawning you in the south you would of course never have seen it.
@fatalityin1

And a third reply: had to test as a megacorp on small. Yeah, was shitty, that system was far in the west. But with its 60k defence I now would have 40 years to reach it with jumpdrive and AI wont conquer it. Even im multiplayer those people would not likely go for it because they would would never expect you to spend a whole perk for them to never research it.

*Hits play* Whenever I play with the Bioforms I always run a mineral deficit, it'll be interesting to see how someone who knows what they're doing ends up having Edit: Also a mod I can't recommend enough is the Automatic pop migration mod, turn it on and have it set to all unemployed and watch as it automatically fixes your unemployment for you. 2nd Edit: Finished the video, and seeing that you are on -6k minerals and I agree, I hate how you have this permanent deficit of minerals, but it doesn't seem to matter at all, it only slows down the growth of bio hives and by the midgame you can easily buy 1k minerals to grow a world. Great mod, needs to sort out minerals

Bioships, would be cool with special rules for such things. Like being able to upgrade anywhere without needing to go to a shipyard. Downside could be building ships would be a bit slower. I think that could work :)

Fun fact, fallen empire fleets cost 0 unkeep which means that they can go over their fleet capacity as much as they please, they can also build as much of new ships as they want, they just choose not to. But in theory, the only thing that sets a limit to them is their alloy production and time that it takes to produce new fleets which would make for a really interesting end-game crisis where they just start uncontrollably spewing more and more ships in a bid to take over the galaxy. Not like the awaken empire, but completly ignoring their fleet capacity.

I'm not an expert on the numbers or code of Stellaris. I think what would add a nice flavor to the game though would be hive minds favoring swarm tactics and being the best at them. I think even more flavor could be special tech and traditions for biological and machine empires having radically different tech trees and favored weaponry. Biological species could favor missiles and health. Machines could favor kinetic and armor. Then add in something like an energy based species like the Unbidden who favor energy weapons and shields. Then the traditions could create something of half breed empires. Like arcane machines like Necrons, or biological machines like the Cylons or Reapers. I also think what would help integrate hive minds throughout the rest of the Galaxy would be a building, special pop (like a queen), or something that allowed them to exist on other worlds allowing for better diplomacy or subjugation rather than outright annihilation. Or even a more in depth political system for hive minds. Like queens vying for dominance, or philosophical schisms in machine empires that snap it into two fanatically opposing factions. Instead of happiness or crime it could be harmony, dominance, and divergence. I think it would be interesting if you determined exterminators has an identity crisis and had a rebellion becoming rogue servitors or assimilators. With what I've heard, that would be awesome with the upcoming subterfuge/spy system. Last thought, I really hope their is something for hive minds that is an equivalent for assimilators, because I think it could work well with a symbiotic/parasitic species like the Flood, Gao'uld, Trill, etc. Just throwing that all out there.

At 15:15 the adaptive bureaucracy tech leads to the admin cap techs if I'm not mistaken, would be much preferable over the hydroponics which, even with a bioform, you probably won't use anyway
