Firstly, when I state “Male/First born son Primogeniture” the “legitimacy” should naturally be implicated, which is why I didn’t see it necessary to state the word legitimate every second. Just as we say ; “A King” rather than “ A King regnant” because all kings are regnant in their own right; it doesn’t need to be said. Primogeniture IS LEGITIMACY. So the “legitimacy” shouldn’t have to be stated. Having said that, Jacaerys Velaryon is not Rhaenyra’s first born “legitimate” son, Aegon III is. Who inherited from his Uncle(Aegon II, another legitimate son.) not his Mother. Secondly, when I state the Blacks are fighting for a “Rhoynish custom” I’m not implying that like elder sisters; bastards can inherit in Dorne. Because I’ve never read any evidence to support that. However what I am implying is the principality of Dorne and Rhoynar customs are much more accepting of bastards as they are of women; than the upper 6 kingdoms are. “Bastards are born of passion, aren't they? We don't despise them in Dorne.” -Oberyn Martell . Thirdly, nowhere am I saying that both sides didn’t lose a shit ton. Because they did. However what I am saying is, IMO, by the definition of “Win” (be successful or victorious in a contest or conflict) there was definitely a clear cut winner in both conflict and claim and his name was Aegon II Targaryen. Just the fact that Rhaenyra's son is named Aegon THE THIRD proves that the Greens won, Aegon III didn't inherit the throne from Rhaenyra, he inherited it from his uncle, Aegon II

Yeah I agree, The Greens won because the war was about stopping a woman and her illegitimate sons from taking the Iron throne and they succeeded. Aegon ii is remembered as king while Rhaenyra is remembered as just a princess who wanted to put her illegitimate sons on the throne and failed. The bloodline argument is weak because Aegon ii and Aegon iii are cousins and the Greens were only against Rhaenyra and her illegitimate sons.

Not to be that person, but if the Blacks supporters were truly wanting to follow Rhaenyra's example of equal primogeneture, then it wouldn't be Baela who should succede Aegon II, rather his still living daughter Jaehaera. Jaehaera was the only surviving child of Aegon II, while Baela was the daughter of the previous king's brother, putting her behind all of viserys's children and grandchildren. (like how Princess Anne's children are behind Prince William and Prince Harry's children in the English line of succession.) Technically, even by Andal law, Jaehaera should be queen. She is in the same position as Rhaenys, but while Team Black supports Rhaenys's claim to the throne, saying it was unfair that she wasn't made the heir after her father's death, they don't back Jaehaera's claim at all, wanting to then uphold Jaehaerys and the Great Council's prescedent not allowing any women to sit the Iron Throne just so Rhaenyra and Daemon's son can be crowned the "victor" of the dance.

I always thought it was weird to suggest anyone won the war. Everyone died, not a single one of them got what they wanted. Allicent didn't protect her family, she didn't live to see her children prosper vested in the line of succession. Rhanerya was killed in a horrific way after a terrible reign. Aegon II was poisoned and Aegon III who ended it ruling when it was all said and done was traumatized his whole life. They killed the dragons, and the Targaryen dynasty as a whole never recovered. It's crazy to suggest there was an actual winner here. Well maybe Deamon if you think he lived his days with Nettles

Yeah, if anything, Team Green lost their bloodline, most unfortunately. However, Team Green's Ideology evidently won the Political aspect of the War. A legitimate, firstborn Male Heir is what the Greens were fighting for the entire time. Sure, they'd have preferred Aegon II Targaryen and his kids to be the main line of House Targaryen going forward, no one's doubting that, but still, Male Primogeniture is what House Targaryen goes on to adhere too.

When you play the game of thrones you either win or you die. Rhaenyra died, therefore she did not win. That’s just how it works.

If Rhaenyra had it her way, Aegon III would have been Queen's consort to Jaehaera Targaryen, First of Her Name, by virtue of the precedent her father (Viserys) would have established. That her son was allowed to claim the throne over the surviving child of Rhaenyra's supposed usurper, was an affirmation of the status quo that the Greens were upholding. If you further believe the theory that the deaths of Aegon's Regents AND the subsequent decline and disappearance of the dragons, were all orchestrated by the Maesters working out of Oldtown, then technically Aegon III's reign was a further Green victory as the Hightowers come out on top regardless.

Aegon III never bothering to legitimize his mother is the biggest L Rhaenyra ever took. Blacks say "oh but he was depressed and didn't want to open fresh wounds". Ok, but what about Vizzy II? He ruled much later when the wounds from Dance of Dragons were not as fresh. Why didn't he bother? Is it because he himself had a female claimant in Daena and decided Uncle Aegon was right after all? And what does it say about Aegon III and Vizzy II fearing public backlash if they legitimized their mother? It says Rhaenyra left a legacy of being one of the worst rulers Westeros had ever seen. You know you lost the war when your main claim to "victory" is that a boy from an incredibly incestuous family that was overthrown and went almost extinct anyway, shares slightly more DNA with Rhaenyra than with Uncle Aegon.

The problem, I think, with your argument is that a male would've succeeded Rhaenyra (had she won the war) regardless because all of her living children are male. Had she had a daughter that lived, say from her marriage to Laenor and Aegon was given the throne in spite of that, you might have a leg to stand on.

The people of King’s Landing had her as their ruler for a fairly long period. Now, why does Aegon die? Rhaenyra was dead, her 3 eldest sons are dead and Aegon the Younger is captured. That sounds like a crushing Green military victory, right? Well, the Black forces (Kermit Tully really doesn’t seem to believe the war is over hey!) routes and crushes the Baratheon host and marches on King’s Landing unopposed. Out of desperation somebody poisons Aegon II. I don’t think if an army is marching on your capital you can say that war is over. Okay, so Aegon is dead. His closest living relative is Aegon, right? Well Aegon did have a daughter, Jaehaera. ‘But the Greens fought for male-only primogeniture right?’ Well…. Sort of. Originally the pseudo-green faction (long before they actually formed) fought to replace Daemon, a seemingly completely legitimate male heir directly assumed to be in line after Viserys, with Rhaenyra. I do not know if you are aware, but Rhaenyra is in fact not of the XY chromosomes. Though it turned into something more akin to what you would expect an exclusively male inheritance to look like, that was due to the birth of 3 sons and 2 grandsons in the succession. Picture this: if the Green forced crushed the Blacks, just destroyed them all, but Aemond, Daeron, little Jaehaerys and Maelor all died in the process, followed by Aegon II, would the Greens have given the throne to one of Rhaenyra’s kids? I highly doubt it. I think they would have crowned Jaehaera outside of the military block that was the Black army knocking on their door. Remember, the Greens basically disinherited Daemon. So at this point, Aegon III’s inheritance is coming from his relation to Rhaenyra. The goal of the Black’s was not ‘put Rhaenyra on the throne’, but ‘ensure Rhaenyra’s line is the ruling one’. Lo and behold, they are. In summary, the war was not over. Kermit Tully and Cregan Stark who were Black supporters were marching on the Imperial capital of King’s Landing. The Green adherence to Male-only primogeniture was out of political convenience and not hard-line policy. The goals of the Blacks (have Rhaenyra’s line sit and rule on the throne) were achieved, whereas the goals of the Greens (have Aegon II’s line sit and rule the throne) were not. When all is said and done, RIP Daeron, a real one riding possibly the coolest looking dragon (as yet described in the books, unsure yet in show) Tessarion. The most reasonable Targ of the entire generation and he who inspired the name for two famed kings in future, Daeron I ‘the Young Dragon’ conqueror of Dorne, and Daeron II ‘the Good’ who saw years of peace and plenty under skilled stewardship. Truly Daeron was taken from us too soon.

Had Cregan Stark not been pacified by Black Ally Blackwood the Blacks would have continued the War up until the point where every Green’s head in Kings Landing would have adorned a Spike. The Blacks essentially had two Kingdoms whose armies were mostly intact. The Greens on the other hand were spent. The Westerlands strength was greatly diminished after the Fish Feed and the Iron Born incursion into Fair Isle had the attention of the Rock. The Reach never really committed its strength to either side. House Hightower could have mobilized another force, but without any Military leaders left in Oldtown whom had any interest in supporting Argon II or Queen Alicent. IMO as a Black supporter no side won the War in the end. But had fighting continued, with the unified Forces of the Vale and the North under Cregan Stark fighting in Rhaenyra’s name it wouldn’t have even been a question.

No one wins the war. The blacks lost the battle and won the war of inheritance using the other sides claim against them after everyone else is dead. The blacks weren't fighting for rhoynar's customs they didn't know, they were fighting an heir named by will vs tradition. Like the anarchy Eustace and Stephan's line dies off, leaving the enemy the only one left to reap the rewards. I’m not sure the blacks were fighting for women to inherit or even the first born. Especially after the first season of HOTD. There was years where Rhaenrya wasn’t the heir and thought she would never be the heir. If anything the backs where fighting for the Kings word to be the law of the land. The Greens (and to a lesser extent Cersie in the main series) were technically making the power of the Targaryens and therefore the throne weaker by telling the rest of the kingdom the Kings word is only law if he says something the kingdom agrees with. Which probably didn’t seem like a problem while the dragons are around but would come back to bite them after the dragons all die off.

If you applied Rhoynar customs to the Blacks Aegon III would inherit before Baela because he is the closest alive kin to the monarch. Even if Aegon III/Viserys II line is extinct it would go to Jaehaera because she is the only living child of Rhaenyra’s siblings. Baelea would only inherit if the line of King Viserys I is no more. Also the Dance of the Dragons established agnatic/salic primogeniture that totally excludes women all together, way more misogynistic than the male-preference primogeniture of Andal custom. Ironically that actually follows the examples established by King Jaehaerys that put Viserys on the throne but that Rhaenyra was trying to completely ignore one time for herself. In Dorne there is generally less social stigma towards bastards and they aren’t seen as inherently treacherous but they are still not official members of the house and this are not a part of the line of succession. They’re essentially treated like children of morganatic marriages.

The historians in-universe agree that the Dance of the Dragons ends with Dragonbane's coronation, this is specified in Fire and Blood after Cregan says that Aegon III should execute the Greens. So you may think that the Blacks are just stragglers in an aftermath, but in world the Maesters agree that Aegon's poisoning happened during the war still. And besides, I don't think it's fair to count the end of the war just because the monarch is dead. Same reason Rhaenys couldn't just kill all the greens at the coronation, everyone was saying "she can end the war" and like no, what she can do is kill half the royal family and start a war. Even though the figureheads are dead doesn't mean the armies aren't still marching. The point is, the Winter Wolves were fighting for the Black cause, and they're the most powerful army in Westeros. The Greens have no dragons left, both sides had claimants left, the Hightowers were still infighting to decide if they wanted to sue for peace or attack King's Landing, the Velaryon fleet was literally waiting for a signal from the King to raid the entire coastline, so I would say the war was still happening. And the war wasn't just about Rhaenyra and Aegon II in the first place. Think about it, if Aegon died do you really think the Greens would give up? No, they would go on fighting to put Maelor, Jaeherys or Aemond on the throne, because it was never about the candidates, it was about power. For both sides. The proof that the Greens didn't want to continue the war is that they let Aegon III stay in power with no hassle, even though he's farther behind in the line of succession than Jaehaera. If they still had the power, they would have fought to put Jaehaera on the throne and kill Aegon, not marry them. I don't know if you've met Black defenders that say they're fighting for Dornish inheritance, but these people misunderstand the Blacks. In the story the Blacks aren't fighting for women's rights in general, they don't care about that at all. After all, they still think Lucerys should inherit from Corlys and not Baela. This video is very childish attacking people personally for liking different characters. Hill's Alive is a green supporter person and never attacks people like this guy. However, the war was won by neither side as the leaders both died and didn't achieve their goals. Greens were willing to surrender but Aegon refused so they had him killed. Then Cregan Stark had arrived to bring justice. However, Rhaenyra was never fighting for women to rule, she was fighting for her own claim. She wanted to continue male primogeniture through her own line. So the idea of having Baela as queen shouldn't even be brought up to begin with. Rhaenyra was fighting for herself, not other girls. In the case of Matilda, her son Henry was fighting the war when she decided to press his claim and retire, so that's not the same situation. Henry was able to get Stephen to accept him as heir over Stephen's own sons. The Anarchy may have been the influence for the dance of the dragons, but it's not a copy of it. GRRM has said he doesn't like to copy something and make things different. So Henry II is not Aegon III, both were far different from each other. GRRM himself is anti-war and both of you missed the whole point of his books. He literally shows the atrocities that happened in the war, not just in Fire and Blood but in ASOIAF too. It's sad to see grown adults get so personal and attack each other over fiction. Some of you really need to calm down over insulting each other over a fictional show/book. Otto got rightfully executed by Rhaenyra, Alicent’s actions get all her children killed not protected, most of Rhaenyra’s children who she loved to death get brutally killed, she has a hard and short reign thanks to the greens taking all the money and hiding it and gets killed brutally by the psycho Aegon II who ends up getting killed by poison like another psycho king. Daemon ends up killing Aemond while also killing himself, with them goes Caraxes and Vhagar. Him and Rhaenyra’s son Aegon III takes the throne as a child but is completely traumatized and just empty the rest of his life, and he marries Jaehaera who also dies tragically . House Targaryen would never be the same, and neither would the Hightower’s thankfully.

Yes, technically, the Greens were the last ones standing(Aegon outlived Rhaenyra), but if every conceivable way, the Blacks won. They beat the Greens militarily and succession wise. It's like saying the US had 10-1 casualties in Vietnam and won x % of all battles. Still doesn't change the fact that by all measures, North Vietnam getting the US to pull out was a victory for them, not the US and they gained control of South Vietnam while the US lost control of South Vietnam. If the Blacks took over courts and Rhaenyra's children and descendants ruled Westeros, it doesn't matter if Aegon ii was the last man standing, functionally he's left with his almost his entire family wiped, he dies shortly after without a male heir. The Hightower-Targaryens die out while the main Targaryen house lives on with Rhaenyra's children and her followers rule the court and become the most influential people in the country.
