I wake up in a field full of beehives - not something I'd planned! I started the day in Greece, and ended the day in Greece. It's big and beautiful, and in mid August was crazy warm!
I rode from a small village called Mesopotamia to Thessaloniki and then on to Kavala. For the first time in the whole trip I booked myself into a hotel and enjoyed some creature comforts.

I’m 61 next month, been retired 3 years (retired early) so have to watch the pennies but after decades of shift working and 12 hour night shifts it was the right thing to do, once my mortgage was paid off, that allowed me to buy 2 350 cc bikes! , I’m 30 years + divorced so do feel a bit sad when I see couples around my age still together and often with grandkids which I don’t have and doesn’t seem I will ever have, I worry about being lonely in my old age but generally can’t complain, living in Cumbria helps, having the Lake District roads on my doorstep and the hills to walk. I have just subscribed to the channel and enjoy the mix of biking and your chats, doing it while you can is the right attitude 👍🏻

Thanks for the comment Adrian. Life is a bit of an uncontrollable thing in many ways. Things happen to us, and we make the odd mistake too, which can create a bit of chaos! Glad you've got a couple of bikes to enjoy your time riding. Wishing you all the best for the new Year mate. Who knows maybe there will be a ride up through your stunning part of the country at some point.

Good man. Your words I'm sure resonate with a lot of us. Hectic life. Realising priorities. Sounds like a worth while trip. And yes. We all have our own mental health battles. Loved your journey. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Gareth. Sorry for the slow reply, going back through comments in KZfaq studio and realising I've missed a load. Yes, the mental health thing has resonated with so many guys following the channel. It's something I need to dedicate some time to for sure. Thanks for the follow and the comments!

I couldn’t agree more that you need to slow down and smell the roses. As the Nike ads say “just do it”

Indeed, just do it is the only way actually. Sometimes you have to tear yourself away from things in order to stay a bit sane. Thanks for watching appreciate it.

You are here for a good time, not a long time. Life is easier once out of UK. I left in 2007, never looked back for a minute, in the Balkans since then.

Another great recording 👍 As blokes our lives are full of all those things that are required Family, Friends, Work and many more. Loosing my Wife 24/12/14 and being left with two teenage kids was a challenge but things do get better as you just keep going on through each phase, Have to say it’s been on my mind over years how other guys are dealing with their stuff, fingers crossed like me they are getting there. Bikes have helped over the last few years . Family are great but some times to talk to can be hard while maintaining the exterior of a tough bloke 😂 take care ride safe all👍

Thanks for this comment mate. I can't imagine what that must have been like. I have 3 boys, all in their early 20's now, raising them through their teens alone would have been a really hard task. So sorry to hear about your loss. I know for a fact that guys don't deal with their stuff very well, I know I don't at times. The space to talk is important, but we're no good at sitting in a room and "pouring out our hearts"! The activity of riding and all the stuff surrounding it, the repairs, the sudden enrolment into a biking community (we all nod to each other on the road etc) has a positive effect that can't be underestimated. Of course it's not enough, we all still need to talk and work things through, but it's a good thing and can be a step in the right direction. Again mate, thanks for the comment. Stay in touch!

"these never ending lists of responsibilities that I have to deliver on" My thoughts exactly!! And the rest of that ramble is excellent! Don't blink, you'll be in ya 60's it all goes so fast. You're a lucky chap to get a handle on all this at a relatively young age. Keep the vids coming. Thanks

Thanks for sharing your amazing journey and story of the trip, I’ve completed 3 annual trips in recent times, it seems more important now since Covid and also the state of our country/world. Like you I travel solo, I don’t camp as I am not as flexible as I was! Now 70 I find the time on my own is a tonic from the stresses that life puts on you and gives you time to think, relax and take stock, I consider at 70 my road is definitely shorter in front than it is behind. My rides have previously been on an Indian Motorcycle but I’ve recently purchased a Triumph Thunderbird LT 1700 cc and my next year trip is taking me down through France & Spain into the Duoro Valley in Portugal before returning to the Picos Mountains in Spain. Ferries are booked and 4 weeks travelling time, staying in air bnbs along the way and enjoying the sites and food along the way, I gave up Alcohol six years ago and so the world through a clear head. Stay safe on your travels. Tony.

This is brilliant. So glad to hear you are still going strong at 70 - that's the way it should be. Your trip sounds amazing, I hope to be able to follow it somehow. Will you be doing some updates? All the best and stay safe on the roads!

Great video 👍 I think you are totally right in considering to slow down a bit and “enjoy” life a bit more. It’s a good thing to talk about it too and get things of your chest and listen to others too and just to share your thoughts with them. It puts things in perspective. I know what it means to when you work a lot and take a lot of responsibilities and all of that and thinking you can handle it and are “unbreakable” and the whole world is depending on you to make things work….well I ran into a serious “burnout a couple of years ago and it was the worst thing ever and I’m still not over it and it’s changed my life forever… So my advice is slow down and enjoy your life with your family and friends and do more of the things you love to do. Don’t be like me and go to far and empty your “battery” totally. Enjoy life 👍

Thanks so much for the comment mate. Yea, I think there is a "cutout" where it all stops in a bad kind of way. The pause/stop button is always within our reach, but we seldom use it - what is that all about!? All the best to you mate in your recovery and path through this and thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.

Another fantastic video and go for it when you can as life isn't a dress rehearsal as they say. I retired five years ago at 60 and have been riding about 6k miles a year since and seen some amazing places and already planning next years trips 🤣🤣

@thebristolthunderbird a bit like you said about your ear pods mate. When I'm riding, I don't do phone calls, music, go pros or anything else that district me from ridding and only use Google maps when I really need to 🤣 Definitely make the most of it when you can, as when I was working I didn't have the time and regret it so much now 🙄 Stay safe and upright mind but enjoy 😉

Yes it really did. So easy to neglect our mental health and just drive forward relentlessly! The ride became a bit of a wake up call for me to take it a lot more seriously. Just in the process of getting ready for the ride back which starts in just a few weeks. Looking forward to that a lot. Thanks so much for the comment.

You echo a lot of my own thoughts about being able to take the foot off the gas and have a better work life balance. A lot of businesses talk about mental health but, that's all it really is, talk. If business was serious about the subject they'd look at policies that allow movement of roles that allow good, skilled, experienced and knowledgeable people to still be retained within the business but to take a step away and get some balance back.

I agree. I think the way we treat ourselves at times is unacceptable (this is my reality anyway). I sometimes look at the way I treat myself and the pressure I put myself under, and I know I'd never treat any one that way! We sometimes forget to be good to ourselves. Us guys can be terrible at that. Didn't even touch on the corporate side of things, but we need more awareness there too for sure.
