The Bristol Thunderbird Day 7: Croatia to Bosnia

After a solid night's sleep in Croatia, at the most expensive campsite I've ever stayed on, I decided to head off to Bosnia. An old friend I used to play in a band with now lives there with his wife. (You'll get to see them in the next episode complete with a jam in his studio).
This ride from Croatia to Bosnia took me on some of the best roads I've ridden. Stunning countryside, incredible mountain top roads, and nice cool temperatures!
I met a lot of German GS 1200 riders along the way, all of them a little surprised I was riding a 29 year old Triumph all the way to the south of Turkey.
Bosnia was an absolute treat, not what I expected at all, far better in every way.
I also had a bit of a low moment, after being alone on the road for so many days, stuck in a helmet and my own thoughts. Disconnecting is not that easy when you are flat out on a daily basis. A long call home was needed!

The last time I was there, it was all one country called Jugoslavia and under the rule of Tito. I adored the country and landscape, travelling with my red Citroen 2CV, a Tent and my girlfriend, later to become the Mrs. The state of the roads then, in particular the southern part of JU, were often not much more than farm tracks in comparison to some parts of the UK. But my 2CV was a Champ and never let us down..., who needs a Landrover! It was nearly all natural, untouched wilderness..., but it certainly looks like the amenities and facilities have changed a lot since, especially the roads. Badly need some of those wonderful riding surfaces in UK, especially in the SE ! For many a year, I worked with ex Jugoslavians, who go back with their families most summer holidays and they say, despite the country's outgoing appearance, there is still a lot of unjust and crooked groups and ndividuals, who even scam their own, not just tourists. They know how to look after themselves! Another good episode, thanks.

Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. That sounds like a great adventure with your 2CV, pretty bullet proof vehicles I've heard. We certainly need some improvement to our roads, especially as we pay a decent price in road tax! Anyway, yes Bosnia was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back. Thanks for following and commenting. Please feel free to comment on any improvements I could be making to the videos and filming. Really enjoying putting these films together and building this channel.

You can't go wrong with either. Triumph are great bikes!

Bosnia is always a great fun to ride. Been there many times. You are right, there are a lot of GS riders there. From Slovenia, this is my country, riders are heading daily to Bosnia. On a long mileage tour, one night stops are soul destroying and tiring. How are you storing your video footage?

I only did one night stops on the way down. Did consider a longer stay in Croatia but it was really expensive to over night. All the video was just kept on the memory cards until I arrived in Turkey. I then backed it all up on a hard drive.

Hi Dave. For the trip down I used a GoPro 10 for all road riding footage. A DJI pocket for all the talking head footage and a Fuji xt3 for stills and some talking footage (not much though). I added an insta 360 X3 for the journey home.
