Day 8! One of my favorites of the trip. I get to visit Matt and Rowan Hellyer, 2 old friends from around 30 years ago. Matt and I played in a band together, him on bass and me on the drums. In this episode we get to do a little jam in his studio, like the good old days! To say my playing is rusty is a bit of an understatement, but it was a. lot of fun.
Matt and Rowan moved to Bosnia 15 years ago and have been doing some good things for their town and elsewhere in the country. They are very talented musicians and Matt has become a bit of a sought after producer. You can take a look at their channel ‪@WeDoAdventure‬ to see what they are up to. They have a strap line which is "Pioneering youth work in Bosnia and Hertzegovina" and that's what they have been doing for 15 years!
Matt has always been someone I've really respected for his commitment to doing good things whether they are recognised and rewarded or not - I like that a lot. Meeting them again was one of the highlights of the trip.
I moved on from Jajce and down through the beautiful country of Bosnia. I crossed the border into Montenegro where I came across an accident on the way down towards my camping spot. Bit of a wake up call. Please be aware that there is some footage towards the end of the video which shows that. It has all been blurred out so no detail can be seen, however it's important you know it's there.
I ended up wild camping in an empty scout campsite which was a bit eerie, there were loads of international flags everywhere in what felt like an abandoned camping area.
Hope you enjoy the episode.

This series is awesome, thanks for sharing the amazing trip! There will always be keyboard warriors who might like bikes but never mover their ass out of the sofa and get annoyed when others do. If you're ruffling their feathers, it means you're doing great, so keep it up!!

Such flashbacks watching all that Bosnian footage. I did a roadtrip all around Bosnia with Matt a few years back which was great fun. I always think of Bosnia as being a mountain on one side of you and a river on the other side.

Can I just say thank you for your undertaking your journey and also sharing it with us who can't do it themselves at this time. To undertake such a journey on your own I feel is much harder as a solo rider than within a group, so I do admire your fortitude and determination to complete the task. At one point I wasn't sure you would continue because you were missing your family and appeared to be struggling, but I'm pleased you continued, well done! Your shared experiences are inspiring and I hope to undertake a solo European journey to Austria next year, but those will not be a shared experience by me. Thanks a lot, keep travelling.

Thanks for the lovely comment Rob, much appreciated. Yes, there was a bit of a "down" moment in the journey, came quite unexpectedly really and surprised me a bit. That's probably the subject of a future episode perhaps. Mental health, and particularly guys mental health, is something I am really aware of in my own life and those around me. I look forward to future trips and sharing my experiences, it has been really satisfying looking back through it all and putting these videos together. Thanks again!

I've loved following the journey so far. I've started 'documenting' the revival of my Bullet . Just like you, I'm learning a style, editing etc but having great fun with the process and just learning to make a video has been great - and a great reference for documenting as you say. My videos may be boring...but that's why the platform has a skip/ fast forward ..or even move to another video option after all :D. Keep it up - the more you make/ do the more you learn. And heck, there's people like me who like 'boring' videos :D ;) p.s i think your vidoes are fab and looking forward to having my own mini adventures.

Oh..., Mostar! Lovely place, did you go into the old town, see the arched bridge, have a wonderful Turkish-style coffee somweher quaint? I love this place, and remember once saying, I would like to retire to this place. That was way back when..., when Tito was still alive. Seeing an accident with a motorcyclist involved, sturs me up more than if it's a car..., although all accidents are bad! What a bad way to finish this upload, very drab.... i'll be chewing over this for ages now. And you could talk about that while in bed, and then go to sleep after, chappeau!!
@thebristolthunderbird
@thebristolthunderbird 10 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I was just passing through Mostar, although I'd really like to visit again, as well as the whole of Bosnia. What an amazing country. Yea, motorbike collisions are the worst, you put yourself in that place immediately and it really stops you in your tracks for a while. Not the best way to end the upload, but that can be the reality of riding and touring. I honestly considered not putting it in there.

It was one of the only days when I travelled in the dark, one of my rules was to not do that on this trip. I got held up a bit at the border adding about 30 mins or so to the ride. I hit the traffic due to the accident which had only happened 10-20 mins before at the most. I hope the rider was ok.

That trip sounds amazing, (and cold). Would be interested to know why you did that in winter, quite a brave thing to do! What a great bike to do it on though. I don't know if you've read Jupiters Travels but I got a flashback of that book when I read your comment. He travelled with this massive trench coat to keep off the rain. I try to be a fair weather rider for the most part, although my next trip back up through Europe in November may prove to be a bit cooler and wetter... Thanks so much for following and taking the time to comment, much appreciated.

No, but you do have to get permission to leave it there. I've got an episode about it, the thumbnail is rubbish though, so you wouldn't know it's about that. Should probably change it! The video has an image of a boat in the sea taken from my drone.
