Hi Dr. Lin, quick question: Do you think it's necessary to static stretch after a workout? If so, in what circumstances? Also, thank you for the video, your visuals and explanation were very helpful! 👍🏾🙂

I had a fall and have been getting physical therapy on my neck for about 5 months now including cervical traction. I hate stretching and strengthening daily. It sometimes seems like all this activity is keeping my neck from healing naturally. It's not like my neck holds most of my weight or anything so I don't know how tight it would be libel to get. I don't think my range of motion was ever that limited. It just feels aching and arthritic now. Are some muscles more prone to over sttetch than others?

I hurt my hamstring and pretty sure it was from stretching it too much.But how much is too much?: In terms of strengthning a dodgy hamstring,would you do squats and lunges?
@RehabRevive
@RehabRevive 7 жыл бұрын
squats and lunges aren't the best in targeting the hamstrings mainly because the hamstrings functions as hip extensors and knee flexion. Pay attention to the squat/lunge and you'll see that as the hip extends, the knees extend as well (meaning hamstring length stays relatively the same). Other than that, we believe it is unnecessary to stretch multiple times a day. Rather than stretch, one should work on stability around relative joints. Hope this answers your question!

I do Taekwondo so the main stretch for me is strattle. Is it ok to stretch with a little bit of soreness? I try really hard to make sure I dont stretch with any pain at all. If I feel any pain I instantly back off and loosen up. The question/answer I can't find, "is it ok to stretch with slight bit of soreness?" can anyone help me with any kind of advice? Greatly appreciated advice. The video was very helpful. Thank you.

@@furyano1251 You've probably learned by now, but it's good to hydrate before you stretch, as well as warm up or make a few attempt before you reach the daily goal distance.

Can you or anyone know what causes excruciating pain for 30 seconds to one minute from only stretching a very little mostly in the legs?

I've picked up yoga again after not having done it for a few months. I did the same poses/stretches for the last 1 1/2 week, but yesterday I think i overstretched my right calf muscle (and slightly the left). On the right side it feels like I have this thin long line of pain going up the back of my calf. It' s not very intense unless I try to stretch it, but it is uncomfortable and tight. I can even feel it when I'm sitting. The left calf also has a little tightness, but not as bad. I can clearly feel a difference when trying to touch my toes in how tight both calves are. I must have stretched a little too hard, as I have done the same poses for the past week and only experienced pain yesterday. For now I'm trying to keep my leg in a comfortable position when sitting (I'm a student so I sit a lot) and aplying a cooling gel. I will still try to stretch tomorro but be gentler and add some more movement to the legs before stretching

How did it go
@ginnyl7208
@ginnyl7208 5 ай бұрын
@Lisa-rg8uq I went to a physical therapist (3× total) to check it out since it wasn't getting better. I luckily didn't tear anything but indeed overstretched and was told that when starting it would be best not to do yoga everyday or at least not the same stretches. I went a 2nd time to see how it was healing and also because i still had some pain, now also in my knee, of which he said a aoecific muscle from my knee was irritated. Then I went a 3rd time as the pain was basically gone in my leg, but I was still having trouble with my knee (it would make a 'click' noise with every step and hurt). So he did the works again but also taped my knee to give it more support. That helped a lot and I didn't need to go afterwards again. I think that in total it definitely took around 8 weeks total (while doing the physical therapy) for my leg and knee to feel better again. It might have taken that long because I have 'weak' muscles as I sit most of time. That leg and is definitely a bit of a weaker spot now as those places feel irritated the quickest if I have been sitting for a long time in one position

You are wrong on so many levels.... The rubber band is a horrible example, it doesn't (re)grow once broken down. But yeah you can fairly easily over stretch. Listen to your body, not this guy with "theories" and "theoretical _____". NEVER stretch after an injury, any 7th grader knows this. You need time to heal, but then don't baby it once it's healed to say maybe 80-85% depending on what it is, how much it's used in everyday practice etc. Don't go hard either, obviously.
