[TW: violence against children, violence against the disabled] The most victimized groups since human history began have been the same: children and the disabled. For those note aware of violence against the disabled, look into the ancient Spartans who threw disabled babies off of cliffs to maintain their warrior race. Or look into the changelings of Gaelic myth, disabled and neurodivergent children who were abandoned in the woods or otherwise tortured. Or look into Asperger, who handed over disabled/autistic children to the Nazis. Or look into the treatment of the disabled in the Nazi concentration camps. Or look into the Eugenics movement in the 19th-20th century US, including the forced sterilization of the disabled. Or look into the sacrifice of the disabled to COVID in many countries in the past few years. Many US politicians called for the elderly and disabled to sacrifice themselves to the virus for the sake of the economy. I was a disabled child and am now a disabled adult. I want all vulnerable groups to be protected, but I have seen very little awareness of violence against the disabled. If you keep an eye out in the future, you will notice that many of the adult victims of serial killers are physically or intellectually/developmentally disabled.

what truly is the worst thing about this whole case is that she literally kept "life stocks" children in her care so that she will have them ready for when the need arises.... she sees them as nothing more than produce... omg!

Agreed. I think it has SOME to do with her being barren. Kids are the one thing she couldn’t have and took it out on them and that made it easier. Like some serial killers might have a “type” because it represents or is a stand in for someone else. Mother, exwife etc. Just a thought… She’s a monster.

My grandpa used to run a spa business and when he'd have to baby sit me, he told me hed leave me in my play pen and ask customers to keep an eye on me while he was getting spa ready for them. When I got older he was like "yeah looking back I guess that was pretty unsafe" and we laughed about it. He always said "oh it was a different time (1988)" so I'm wondering if back then it was safer to trust strangers? Not to mention women usually get thought of as safer than men to leave a child with? Idk that's my guess.

The well connected essentially are vessels that have information that helps sustain life. Without protection there would be less opportunity for inventions and the distribution of these inventions. So you’d have intelligent breakthroughs, but they would be disconnected and not established in a fair and organized setting. Essentially you’re mad at a government for choosing preservation over fertility. The young and docile should be first protected, yet there is no point, and if anything more hell is experienced as the weak and docile die of thirst. The preserved work and spirits of these individuals is worth far more than any child’s soul. And if you disagree with that fact- you’re essentially saying your friends that are 40 with abundant experiences have less value than a mouth that you feed. A child has the chance to be Einstein yet if it’s mother let it wallow around ended with his murder. Who also is responsible? Which one actually uses more energy without immediate compensation? I’ve heard most rich people like to fast. So they must not eat a lot. The almost rich eat as pigs and disagree with celery, yet there professionals and lineages that deserve protection based on the sustained value that’s been learned though literal fucking decades of torment, decay, and capitalism. Definitely need to speak with context and empathy instead of talking with your vagina. Your strong, straight forward emotions could cause unnecessary laws and acts of ill remark to occur. I wonder what your trail has left behind.

A 100% psychopath - she could not overpower a grown person - therevore she gone after this poor children. A psychopath is a oportunistic predator - the oportunity to catch a child is biger and she had no regard for any living beeing aniway - so that it is a child make no diference for her kind... A normal human can't wrap his/her head araund this. I think also that the true "evil" is not any supernatural presense - it is pure biological and it is a absense. The absense of conscience, love, kindness, decency, remorse - the willig to beter one self + do good things just for the sake of it - aut of the goodnes of the heart - - badicaly all what makes a human - psychologocal a human is just NOT there.

I'm leaning towards thinking that one or more of her influential clients arranged to have her killed, once they realised that they wouldn't be able to get her off the hook a second time, since, as you mentioned, they presumably didn't want to risk getting exposed by her during her trial. Maybe wouldn't have changed much anything in the long run for the clients, but why risk it if you can avoid it. Either way, I feel so sorry for all the parents who lost their children, and especially all those who never got to find out if she was responsible for that their child was missing, or if they should continue looking for their child elsewhere.

I'm not so sure she chose it. I wonder if her mental health crashed and she felt compelled to do what she did. She was a prostitute in a brothel-- She could've had a venereal disease that contributed to her mental health breakdown. Unless an autopsy was performed, we'll never know. I know they mentioned she had cancer of the uterus; but I don't think they discovered that during postmortem.

Good Morning, Wow what a story this one was!! I never like to hang around people that gossip, but in this case sometimes it’s good to have mosey neighbors. I understand she wanted to be independent but I don’t see why she just couldn’t have chose to do some thing else while she was married. What she did was horrific and barbaric. I can’t even imagine what went through the minds of those poor children. I’m glad that the one neighbor did report what she saw in the window and she seemed a little girl. What bothers me is how the police handled it and that still continues to happen when you don’t have much money the police don’t seem to be too interested. I’m glad they were able to rescue the little girl and the other child that was with her. The sad part is the other children she murdered or not able to be saved. R.I.P. Great story! It took me a day to remember that I had not seen my Brief Case this week. I think that Enriqueta might have been the case of a good girl gone bad. I could be wrong about that. One thing is certain, she made too many mistakes to try to get away with her crimes. And great job as usual, you have never disappointed me with the stories. Looking forward to the next.. Brief...Case!!

Historian living in the Raval neighborhood, Barcelona (which was called "Distrito 5" or Barri Xinés (Chinatown) at the time, not Raval). I was fascinated by this shocking story for years. There is a non-fiction and a graphic novel. Your telling of the gossip version was quite good. Supposedly, her neighbors said nothing - it was a man delivering a mattress that saw the little girl. Unfortunately, you missed the scariest part of the story - there was zero evidence of anything. The local police were rumoured to run the worst brothels and used her as a scapegoat. The bones are believed to have been animal bones, and the rest was just collective madness. There was no little book with names. And that's why they had her beaten to death in jail awaiting trial.

Thsnkyou for your comment, the main part of the case came from a Spanish lady from Barcelona, I also read quite a few old Spanish newspapers (not catalan) problem was that there were so many slightly different versions of the events that took place, however when i went over it with the Barcelona lady and a colleague from Cordoba they both thought that the case was covered well :)

@@BriefCaseOfficial I thought you did a great job in telling that version of the story (as always!) The newspaper accounts about the Vampiresa were sensational (in both senses) and the hysteria and fear of the unwashed rabble form part of the story (as you noted). The 1909 anti-recruitment revolt was no small event, earning the dual monikers of the "Tragic Week" or the "Glorious Week" (the latter preferred by radicals/anarchists) - and giving the city the moniker of "The Rose of Fire" for the illumination of the burning churches (supporters of the militarism). It was in this milieu that our fine dame would dress "proper", walk five minutes, and peddle her wares and services at the Liceu Opera House (wiki that one; it sits on church property burnt out in 1835); after a show, it was not uncommon for the gents to go slumming for the night in the Raval.... Enriqueta spent her last days in the Raval/ Barrio Chino, at the Reina Amalia prison. It overlooked the plaza in which (public) executions by garrote vil had taken place until 1897 place (scene of Ramon Casa's masterpiece "Garrote Vil").... Three walls of that prison (exclusively for women, particularly poor women and those accused of ill repute) were torn down by anarchists during the Civil War (1936-1939). They left a footprint that is now occupied by a school, looking over a children's park. I wonder if the kids know what horrible things that one old wall saw...? I can confirm that the dark tenements of the Raval can still get dank and musky. The beloved, immigrant-based neighborhood remains, after five centuries, the libertine city's infamous rubbish bin / entertainment district /open-vice area - with a certain notoriety for sex work, purse-snatching, drug peddling, heroin usage, etc. Anyways, Enriqueta's apartment survived the war and sits at Joaquín Costa 29, around the corner from the Modern Art Museum. Hit me up in the comments if you're ever in town....

What makes it so livid in the end was that the list of names wasn't released. In a better outcome, the person who found the list should have hid it and released it to the public immediately. Every Bastard on that list needed punishment. And it's still like that today the Epstein case. Others. It's all the same. One can only hope someone someday will rise to begin the steps to take the Bastard's down. "Let Justice be done though the Heavens fall."
