The dismemberment leads me to believe this isn’t the first time he killed someone. 😢 Poor Ms. Kaye. She was so happy to have finally become a mother and soon a wife. She probably thought, at 30yrs old, she wouldn’t get that chance.

What a truly despicable man to lie, steal, commit adultery and a horrific murder, too. I'm glad that justice was served and he received the death penalty. This was the early 20th century; a divorce wasn’t very easy to get, and women had few rights. At that time, a woman was considered the property of her father until she married, and thereafter, property of her husband. In many places, a married woman couldn’t own property in her own name, nor have unlimited access to her own money. Quite a few women remained single in order to be able to control their own destinies; having married him, his wife was effectively trapped.

@JosieJOK Yes, and being married to a murderer you and your children and everyone who stood by you effectively became shunned from „good“ society, no matter how innocent you were. So i think a lot of women stood by their men, just to save the family’s reputation.

Very interesting case ,i'm often struck by the way social history seems to have an influence on the type of crimes that happen during a given period .Married men pursuing ,"Marrying" or becoming engaged to ,and defrauding moderately wealthy women seems to have been a bit of a feature of the inter war years .Of course most of them didn't kill their victims ,just robbed and left them .I wonder if the psychological effect of WWI had something to do with it ,or perhaps the shortage of eligible young men made women easier to manipulate .Of course it helped that it was easier to create a false identity than it would be in later years .Thank you for continuing to bring us these little known historical cases .

Good morning!! Wow this was a pretty sad case because of the way he treated her body and it was so barbaric. I also felt really bad for the wife because she kept forgiving him for the things he kept doing. Besides the murder being so horrifying one of the things that bother me is people wanting to see the crime scene and paying for it. I moved into a house that I didn’t know two people were murdered and because I was renting the house the landlord had no obligation to tell me and when I found out I moved out. Is just really heartbreaking what he did to this poor woman she thought they were going to marry and I believe he killed her because she was pregnant. Once again thank you for a great story and I hope you have a fabulous week 🇬🇧

@@BriefCaseOfficial I was living in the house for six months and I didn’t know the neighbors that well because I was gone most of the time. I had a day off and one of the neighbors came over to introduce herself and we just started talking and she told me what happened and looking back it was really funny because some strange things were happening in the house. I had some friends over for a barbecue and one friend went into the bathroom and told me the shower was on and I thought he was joking so we all went in the house and the shower was on. So then I started to remember some odd things that happened that I really didn’t think about but the neighbor told me that a mother and her grown son had been killed in the house so I called the landlord and since it was a month to month rental I moved out so fast. In some states if you’re buying a house and someone either died or was murdered they have to tell you but if you’re renting they are not obligated to tell you what happened which I find kind of shocking. I think the murders had taken place a year before I moved in

That he never stopped proclaiming his innocence was probably due to a sincere belief that whatever he did was not criminal -- it was just what he wanted to do, so it was okay. In his head, at least. He went to some lengths to dispose of the body, which meant he at least knew it was "illegal," but failing to take responsibility in the face of overwhelming evidence seems a dead giveaway of psychopathy.

Mahon (pronounced Marn) undestandably lied through his teeth because the gallows were waiting for him if found guilty. I was shocked an appalled that 'guided tours' became available so soon after his conviction.

Yes, it's important to learn how to pronounce his name correctly when you cover a case, otherwise it undermines the research.

They walk among us. They look like us and act like us. But they are NOT like us! Only when caught can we see what monsters they are.

This woman was nieve and desperate for a man. Just look at her. Plus with her looks I bet her personality wasent good either. a woman who's single at 30 during those times was extremely rare. I bet she must of been a little slow in the head as well. Poor lady.

@@GodsThirdEye I don’t think it’s the woman in this story that is slow in the head, judging by your inability to communicate adequately in the written word. Take some English classes to learn how to spell and use proper punctuation. Also before commenting on the lady’s personality in this story, have a look at your own personality and you will probably find there are many traits that need improve for others to think you have a pleasant personality.

the execution report states that mahon tried to cheat hangman tom pierrepoint by jumping with bound feet before the drop fell. he failed and only succeeded in striking his back against the side of the drop before the rope broke his neck.
