Hi Amy. It was so cool to hear you talk about Three Pines and Chief Inspector Gamache. I love the stories because of his character and his relationships too! And for the Quebec scenery. He is definitely something special. I have listened to five of the books on audible and am now watching the series on prime. Love all your knits and yarn. Thank you.

Those Fonte colors are gorgeous! It does look like you chose them, all so incredibly beautiful! I am surprised every yarn company in the world isn't knocking on your door to help with color combinations! I'm always amazed and surprised how they turn out! I'm a lover of the combination of blues, greens and purples and I guess you'd need to add a gold or mustard in there for the under body feathers of the peacock 🦚. I would love to see you create something in that colorway. And I adore your tam! Maybe the 15 wooly knit yarn deal had sold out of their colored yarns and was trying to reduce their neutral stock because that's all they had left? Surprising nonetheless, but I do love the speckled yarn! I love the color for Franks vest and the Princess Leia is gorgeous!

Happy New Year, and Lang May Yer Lum Reek 🙂. We watched Glass Onion the other day and enjoyed it. The two movies really remind me of Agatha Christie stories. I also loved the visual beauty of the movies. I received my order here in Canada of my first Wee County Yarns Kinross 4ply, in the colour Mary. To me, it's the most beautiful red that I've ever seen. I was inspired by a young woman who had the podcast Willow Cove Crafts....she is knitting the Culm pullover with her Kinross 4ply, and refers to it as the neverending sweater, lol. I will investigate patterns a bit, but I do think I'll knit the Culm, also. Maybe it will be my birthday cast-on later this month 😊

Princess Leia, I must say that your granny, your mama and your very self really spoiled you this Christmas! Amazingly beautiful stash acquisitions. I love all your prospective projects and totally agree with frogging the Anthology. So many people were knitting it this year, but a round throw does not seem practical to me either- I would prefer to showcase such lovely yarns in something that you can really enjoy. I am delighted about the knit along as I have the yarns all ready and the Lento is all set for my New Years cast on for little old me, after lots of gift knitting over Christmas and New Years. Perfect timing! Mine will be black- so daytime knitting, but I am excited to finally start it. I am scrambling through my budget for 2023 to see if I can squeeze in becoming a patron so I can enjoy the extra episodes- expenses are rising, but I have now reached the age where I must take more income each year from my retirement savings, so maybe I will join you in the patreon community! ♥️ Happy New Year and hope your Hogmanay celebrations were loads of fun.

hope you had a wonderful Hogmanay Amy! We were watching Three Pines as well. It is a superb series and we still have the last episode to watch. We really love it because the Detective is played really well , but also because the series deals with the very real and important issue of Police violence against Native Peoples here in Canada and the Missing Women (who are almost all Native women as well) and the Residential Schools. The way these crimes have brushed off and not properly investigated, how there are some top men in positions of power involved in the issues ( in a bad way) are all truths that Canada has been, or is now being forced to deal with. It is a dirty history that no-one has wanted to face up to, and it has been whitewashed. Kind of like the Highland Clearings in a way. You could over-dye those rather drab colour cones of yarn, and of course swap them with other people as you suggested. With the 6 KM of yarn you ordered 😃 consider knitting matching Stephen West leggings for Frank and yourself - a good way to keep warm as the energy crisis is not going to go away any time soon. It has hit here as well but not as badly yet,. We are bracing ourselves for the worst at the end of 2023. And finally there is a really lovely and interesting scrappy/mini skein shawl pattern that has hit the Knitters and KZfaqrs - one of them is called the Excavation Shawl by Jana Pihota and another one very similar to it with the fringes as well ( Can't for the life of me remember the name). You could use those gorgeous yarns from Janna of Finnish Knitting for that. Her throw using the podcasters advent yarns is quite gorgeous, I was pleasantly surprised by it, but yes, I agree, I wouldn't wear it and the yarns you have would be a bit wasted on it. And finally, you u may want to consider the popular "No Buy 2023 " for yarns with that fantastic stash you accumulated over Christmas! You won't be lacking for any! But seriously, what fab yarns you received! See you in 2023! Aah and I forgot to mention - That beret is Da Bomb and suits you well, as does the colour!!!
@AmyPalko
@AmyPalko Жыл бұрын
Yes, I so appreciated that about the series too - it approached with respect and compassion, and didn't gloss over. I'm intrigued to discover whether the books are the same. Will definitely check out the Excavation Shawl - intrigued!!

That podcast was an event! I laughed a lot and thoroughly enjoyed your tour of knitting wonders and new to you wool. I have a similar issue with numbers so empathize with your adventures! I am Canadian and long time fan of Louise Penny and her books; Three Pines, Armand Gamache, Reine Marie, Jean Guy, Isabelle and all the other characters....I'm so glad you've decided to read the books, because as much as Albert Molina has captured the essence of Armand the rest are not a true reflection of Three Pines , and all the other characters..however you will discover this yourself and hopefully come to love them even more! All the best for a wondrous 2023!

Wow Amy, thanks for a wonderful jam-packed and inspiring episode. All that wonderful work (your Dornie is amazing - the colour!) and those gorgeous yarns! It really was a bit of a feast. I was thinking that the males in you life had struck it lucky with the surprise cones. Colourwork in more natural tones perhaps?

Happy New Year to you. Yes, You MUST take care of those hands to allow us all to look into your world of knitting for the future. I have a questions about the Mohair, you are showing a beautiful skein of 450 meters of the Rhienbeck colorway, stunning. I was wondering how to plan on using it and figuring it in the yarn meterage when the main color calls for many more meters. I am hesitant to use mohair or the other options because I don’t want to not get enough yarn when purchasing. I found today’s card so enlightening and fitting for most of us here.
@AmyPalko
@AmyPalko Жыл бұрын
So, I quite like a single skein of beautiful hand dyed mohair as there are quite a few shawl options which only require 1 skein of mohair when combined with other yarn. And i have also held the mohair double and subbed in for a thicker weight yarn in a colourwork yoke. I'm more likely to do something like that with it, rather than holding it double with a second strand for an all over fluffy garment.

I just finished 3 pines yesterday, could not agree more with you! I’m going to attempt the KAL I think. I’ve never done one before and I’m not an experienced garment knitter but want to be. After the end of this podcast I’m off to look at how to do short rows to see if I think I can do it and join. 🤞

You can do it, Christine! And, I absolutely agree with Andrea - I also use the german method for short rows. I would also say that Very Pink Knits is my go to resource when I want to learn a new knitting technique. Her videos are so clear and helpful.

I have a good stash of yarn. It won't all fit under my king & queen beds in sweater bags...I have two bins in the closet and a sweater bag to give away...but I can't fathom 6 kilometers of yarn. Perhaps I have that much? There's a mind bender. I do mostly use a bulky weight yarn to loom knits hats in the round.

@AmyPalko
@AmyPalko Жыл бұрын
Hahaha! Ye p - I won't run out of yarn to knit, that's for sure! As for whether you'll have enough DK, I think it depends on the gauge and the size of the sweater. 800m would be enough for the first 3 or so sizes of the Lento or the Ranunculus. They're both around the 15 stitch gauge mark. It would probably also be enough for a vest/slipover. Might have a few more options if you don't have to knit sleeves!

Amy, crazy question but several years ago Stephen West did an interview with a woman who knit many of his patterns. I’ve been wondering if that was you? First of all you are such a wonder and good sport who can laugh at and with yourself. Secondly you’re every bit as inspiring as Laerke and thirdly skip the prime Amazon bad actors in Three Pines and spend your time reading the series. I read right through 1-18 without anything in between. Can’t speak to the audible version since it was before I was knitting. I’m opinionated I’ll admit. So I can say I think you’re one of the best and rewarding podcasters. Deb
