Is there a proper way to ask for a favor?

I totally understand what Adrienne was talking about. It's so hard for me to ask for help as well.

Felt that, Adrienne, I absolutely hate asking for a favor or help as well. It’s super hard and it makes me so uncomfortable. Growing up my parents always told me to never accept things from people and to never ask for things as well. If anyone asks me for help though, man I got you! I’d love to help anyway I can

One of my teachers in college gave me some of the best advice.He said if your gonna give just make it a gift so your only giving what you can and not taking from what you need,not expecting it back and keeping the relationship in tact bc it was just a gift.So everyones happy.

I strongly dislike when ppl ask me for favors in this manner.... person: what are you doing on Friday night Me: nothing much. I don't have any plans Person: can you watch my kids for me? Am I the love only person who feels set up when ppl ask for favors this way? I feel forced into saying yes. I'm currently working on my saying no routine.

I absolutely feel Adrienne on this one. I find it difficult to ask anyone for help. I'd break myself to do for others but I can never bring myself to ask anyone to help me. I overthink and in my mind I already see nobody being able to help me, even though I've come to their rescue numerous times and that would hurt a little, so I'd rather not go there at all.

I would help someone else, but it would be hard for me to ask someone else for help for myself. You can be beautiful on the outside and ugly on the inside, you can be ugly on the outside and beautiful on the inside. That's why beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

My mom will always ask me for money and when I ask her how much she NEEDS, she always says "whatever the Lord lays upon your heart." It infuriates me!! People have no idea how to ask someone for help properly. If you need a favor, ask for exactly what you want, don't expect others to figure out how they can help you when you are the one who needs help. This was a good topic.

I think I understood what Garcelle was saying with give a reason why this person specifically is the right one to do this favor. If I get asked a favor anyone can do or someone else would be better suited to do, I most likely will not do it. Explain to me why I'm the right one for the job.

I can relate to Adrienne. I hate asking for favors. I miss out on events where children aren’t allowed because I don’t want to ask someone to watch my son. I’m even willing to pay them and it’s still hard to ask. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I don't like asking for favors especially from people outside my immediate family. I only ask favors from my mom and my sister because we are close and I feel comfortable. We have a consistent give and take relationship so it's not a problem. My favors are usually to do something for me (e.g. drop off package at UPS). I don't ask for money.

I was just like Adrienne I never wanted to asked for help I remember when I got divorce it was a ruff time me and my daughter and family would ask if we were ok if we needed help I would say no I’m good and continue working two jobs tired etc all because of pride and not wanting to be seen as weak so I still don’t ask for help as much as I should but I am a work in progress lol😂😂

It’s so true what Jeannie said about people who love you are jumping at the opportunity to help you. My family literally has shamed me before for not asking for more help, for whatever it might’ve been. They even go out of their way now to offer me things that I actually don’t need and politely have to decline, because they know me 🤣

I'm the person that always wants to help, but I also identify with Adrienne when it comes to asking for help. It's weird.

Someone tell me if I’m crazy but,what is it with society putting blame on material things or the internet for their actions, I grew up with social media and all that came with it and did it affect me? Absolutely! But at some point I had to understand that no one and nothing can stop you from being who you are because they are not you, your opinion is the only one that matters in your life, people come and go, there’s always another job, we need to stop letting societal expectations dictate how we live our lives and just do thing because they are what we genuinely want to do. Don’t say yes to someone else if it means saying no to yourself.

There are some people even family members who are very well off and can genuinely help others ..BUT.. the person they asked to make them feel so bad for asking that they ended up in tears. I have a friend who said she felt like dirt under the person's shoes by the time they were done lecturing her because she asked for help and she had never ever asked before. She said she would never ask anyone for help if she could help it, she will suffer in silence. She said the family member she asked who ended up not helping her then talked about it to other family members. A few Years later Karma hit. My friend was in a great financial situation after the rough time and the family member ran into trouble and had the audacity to ask her for help. She said no and they then complained to the family about her not helping

I think there should be a proper way to ask for favour. Particularly financial favor. However, we need to learn to how to be polite in our everyday conversation. It will help a lot.

I’m like Adrienne I don’t ask for help/money from ANYONE. EVER. If I can’t find a way to get it myself, I’ll go without it. I will never give anyone the opportunity to say no to me in my lowest moments.

The kids I can understand since they are young and impressionable. It's the ADULTS that live for social media validation that concern me the most. They can't even lead by example.

Would I still be up on the gram without filters? Heck yes. I’m a 90’s baby. I’m used to the no filters LOL. In fact, I purposefully either don’t use filters, or use the mildest ones, because I’m so aware that I don’t look that way - I don’t want to get caught in person looking less than. I feel like the filters thing is for either famous or younger people. I want to look and feel good in real life.

As a parent, it difficult to see how these affect young people. The likes,the filters... teens and young adults with unrealistic expectations of beauty and believe they are ugly because they don't look like those filtered pictures out there. Natural is beautiful too. How about we as adults strive to teach these young people that. A filter is just a mask, like a Halloween costume. Be real, and truthful about who you are and what you look like. Without a mask/filter ...you...are...beautiful!
