Wow ,how terrifying! You're from New Zealand?? I left a similar comment funny enough on his one about ' Fanny Adams' who was brutally murdered as a little girl over here in England in the late 1800' s.I was brought up in Liverpool ( y'know The Beatles & all that jazz;) lol and my dad who died a few years ago he'd be 91now used to talk about food rationing during the war right up to the late 1950' s over here & he'd say they had ' sweet Fanny Adams' in the way of food..from watching that video I now of cause know he meant ' sweet FA..' f*ck all & said it so my mum wouldn't tell him off .😂 Parents years ago really sent us to bed with a day images in our heads didn't they..wouldn't mind my ' Grimm's Fairy Tales ' book had stories in it & illustrations of wolves wearing frocks ( dresses) luring little girls into their homes...no wonder I grew up still sleeping with a night light on aged 54 ! xx

How can anyone kill anyone? But, I agree. It seems to me that this is the second most common way women of that time period became serial killers. The vast majority of cases I've seen on this channel about female killers seem to involve poisoning lovers and relatives, but it seems there was a fair share who resorted to killing babies and young children.

What's horrid is I wonder how many other "daycares" were just as negligent as Dean at the time and how no one thought to probably keep things under close watch by an agency. You can't just trust a stranger with your kid or baby, but I'm assuming due to the times some of those families had no choice and believed Dean was legitimate. Going to investigate Dean's lodgings was probably not an option for some but, I couldn't imagine myself blindly giving my kid to a care center without a lick of looking into it myself.

It's absolutely horrific. Those poor babies. I saw a documentary a few weeks ago about Tuam in County Galway Ireland. Where 9,000 children died at 'brutally misogynistic' homes for unmarried mothers. How could anyone bring themselves to hurt a defenceless child..... Rip all those beautiful angels. 😭😭😭💘💘💘🙏🙏🙏

@@violetmartha916 hi yes... I heard of this story too. At least they are making arrangements to honour the lost ones. They are plans to find as many remains as possible...and give them a fitting burial.. A memorial garden with plaque erected there. The Taoiseach also apologised in parliament and recognised the cruelty and deaths there. Unfortunately these things happened all over the world... at a time when being an unmarried woman and pregnant was social taboo... and it was often other women who exploited their predicament. In Victorian times... Some women offered refuge... for an unmarried mothers baby... in their own residence/home... charging a small fee. Doing this for many women and babies at one time. "Baby Farming" was a term used for it... But they murdered the babies... And refusing the mother's visit with excuses... such as the baby was too sick to be seen... Or was taken for a stroll by husband /daughter "Come back next week" type situations.. This could go on for a while... and single unmarried women with little to no education... were servants and had perhaps one day off or a half day off a week.. were often fobbed off this way. Yet the "baby farmer" (often appearing as a kindly dear woman) would still charge them a fee. Until it eventually came out... as mothers brought a policeman with them to the door...Babies were found buried in back yards or thrown into rivers😔 Offhand .... If my memory serves me correctly... 🤔 there was a case in Australia... and England.

Baby farming was such a curse in that particular period of history, the late Victorian era continuing into the early 20th century. It’s not a coincidence that Britain’s most infamous baby farmer, Amelia Dyer, was hanged less than a year after Minnie Dean. I know you’ve done a video on Mrs. Dyer as well, BC. Fortunately both these cases led to reforms in the law. What I’m curious about is why baby farming only came to attention during this period. Had it become a growing market due to stricter Victorian morality on illegitimate births? Or had it been going on forever, and was only recognized as a problem due to stricter Victorian scrutiny of social conditions? I must also echo what Denise Fulks said. While Minnie alone was undoubtedly responsible for the death of little Dorothy on that train journey, how could she possibly have been disposing of babies on this scale without her husband Charles knowing what she was up to? I’ll bet she called on him to act as gravedigger at least. How come he was never charged, as an accessory at least, with aiding and abetting. Come to that, it’s a bit suspicious in itself that he went into hog farming. Police certainly didn’t find all the babies who disappeared under Minnie’s care. Were some of them fed to the pigs, as the Hosein brothers probably did to poor Muriel McKay three quarters of a century later? But I must say Charles had rotten luck with fires. First his house burns down. Then years later he dies in a house fire. Was this the judgment of Heaven on a man who had otherwise escaped punishment for condoning and profiting from murder? Anyway it was another good choice of case, BC. New Zealand murders don’t get reported so often in British or American annals of crime, so this will be new and interesting to many, besides being unique in its way. And “Minnie Dean” is a memorable name. It’s given me an “earworm.” I keep wanting to sing “There’s an old mill by the stream, Minnie Dean...”

@@indigogoigorgo7992 Had a horrific serial murder case in British Columbia, Canada, where the perpetrator disposed of most of his victims shredding them in a wood chipper and feeding them to his pigs, which he was able to do for years, despite being reported to the police for being connected to the disappearance of many women. The police lost count after 60 women went missing; the authorities still don't know the real number of victims and the Pickton Brothers refuse to talk. A similarity to this case, the authorities did not charge his brother, Doug Pickton, despite it being obvious that he was a participant and present during the murders. Lazy police and prosecutors and a lax justice system worked in their favor.

From what I've read about the time period, "illegitimate" children were basically seen as human garbage; they were disposable & dispensable, and the general mindset was, "the fewer bastards, the better." Also, women who had illegitimate children were automatically viewed as having "low moral character" and therefore their complaints (or complaints about their children) were often seen as the lowest possible priority by both society and law enforcement. To top it off, most women who had children out of wedlock were so shamed and humiliated that they often were too ashamed to even come forward, knowing that they'd be judged as immoral and that it might permanently affect their chances of finding decent employment or a husband. It's truly horrific by our standards today, but in that time illegitimate children and their mothers were simply considered subhuman...while the fathers (who were equally culpable) were allowed to walk away with no consequences.

Oh! What a sad and lonely way for each tiny tot to die!💔 I picture them crying at 'Minnie Dean's Infanticide Institute', and there being no loving arms to comfort them. Little innocent sweeties❤️ When you mentioned a baby boy named Horace Murray, I nearly burst into tears. I could imagine a baby boy whose unmarried mother had envisioned a life for him as an adult, and had given him (at that time) a trendy, masculine name. It's a name like so many of his generation who grew up and went to war: The Cecils. The Algenons. The Reginalds. The Stanleys. The Earnests. And little Horry, who never got out of nappies (diapers). Thank you for another gripping tale, BC. If Minnie Dean wasn't already dead, I'd hunt her down and make her so. No mercy.
